Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask.
It has a cast of many interesting NPCs. Though their rolls may be short due to side-quests, I have never played a game where I actually got to know the lives of the People inhabiting a doomed world quite like this.
Red Dead Redemption. I was so attached to the story, it was amazing!

i know!
Ace Combat series if you have the PS3 that could play the PS2's games.
There's nothing wrong with the CEO of Infinity Ward, but everyone hates the CEO of Activision.
Get your facts straight, son.
I never said Infinity Ward
Mafia 1 had a good story if you ask me. Fahrenheit was awesome too, though the game got way too fancy half trough.
Also Alundra, if anyone remembers that PS1 game.
Let me be the third to say planescape: torment.
Well essentially anything from the old black isle - no I'm not looking at you icewind dale. Beyond good and evil is also nice.
Planescape: Torment, but it's gameplay leaves a bit to be desired.
I see people don't even read the OP anymore.
PS3 games.
the first Modern Warfare was god-awful in both single and multiplayer
:colbert:
Modern Warfare 2's story is a nice break from the usual games I play. Sure it's not good, but I never thought it would, it's an action story and hey, what's wrong with wanting a simple to follow action movie type story every now and then?
Other then that, I found Mass Effect and perhaps Dragon Age to have some of the most memorable stories. Dragon Age because the plot, while standard high fantasy fare, is placed in such a believable fantasy setting that it feels like a new experience.
Games do not have "good stories" only decent.
MGS 1 for me and propably some other games with interesting settings. Judith perhaps?
However, in the future there will be a lot more mature games out on the market.
Mordern Warfare 2 was really wierd compared to Call of Duty 4, the story took a huge and wierd turn and it didn't really have the same feeling as CoD4 for me. I was amazed when I first played Call of Duty SP, Call of Duty UO SP, Call of Duty 2 SP and Call of Duty 4 SP but MW2 didn't really make me feel the same thing, although that may be just me and not the game.

On-topic though; Fable The Lost Chapters had a great story!

Warcraft 3 too.

Homeworld.
Homeworld.
I remember playing it a long time ago. Never finished it. Perhaps I should give it a second chance.
As much as I would like to recommend this I can't. It's a damn brilliant game and if you've followed the story it's fine, but the story is so fucked up with millions of arching plot-lines and random shit that it'd be hard to follow unless you're a fan of the series.
That being said, it's still fun as hell even if you don't understand the story. If you do, then you are just getting an extra.
Fully agreeing.
I mean seriously, [sp]A child of a clone of a clone of a clone of the leader of some PMC?[/sp] WHAT?!
Correct me if i missed some other [sp]clones of children of clones or whatever[/sp]

In the topic, the ending or Read Dead Redemption was . . . Original.
If your PS3 has backwards compatibility, you *have* to try Star Ocean: Till the End of Time. The story is great, and then ending is like a good M. Night Shymalan movie. What a tweeeeest!
Fable series
I liked Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood story...
Professor Layton for me.
Xenogears.
Red Dead is my favourite of this generation.
System Shock 2, Half Life series, and The Elder Scrolls Morrowind.
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.
not sure when its out for ps3 but mass effect 2 has amazing story i have spent hundreds of hours playing it on my 360
The Assassin's Creed games had some good stories. The first might be a bit repetitive in gameplay but the second is much better. If you haven't tried them out, do so soon.
The Half-Life series. If you research it a bit, you'll find it to be actually pretty amazing.

And Thief. :v:
