haven't been keeping up with news, what are praxis points?

Points that you allocate to augmentations to upgrade them.

Examples of two augmentations' upgrade trees:

I spy with my little eyes the break-through-wall-to-snap-a-neck ability.
You know, I have never really played Deus Ex but everyone says it is amazing. maybe I should pick it up someday, considering there are a few mods circulating the scene I think
which brings me to another question: should I install mods and if, which ones should I get?

Just play the game one without any mods, not even the ones concerning graphics. Just install the latest official patch.
Once you finished it, install some mods.

Install DX10 renderer if graphics are bothering you. But otherwise you should stick to vanilla. Don't let the first level fool you, its tough at first but it gets better later on.

In regards to this you need cash AND praxis points for augs the first time round then just praxis for upgrades.

I've never understood why people always say this. On my first playthrough I found Liberty Island both fun and easy.

Shifter is the best mod there is for the game.
Once I had completed it vanilla, I installed Shifter and never looked back.

Depends how you approach it. A LOT of people have been put off DX purely because of the first level.
I recommend The Nameless Mod for something after you complete DX. Totally new story, weapons etc. Pretty lengthy too.
If you approach Liberty Island as an FPS then you will almost certainly fail, which is what many people did.
I don't think it's really the level, it's just the fact that the game is pretty unique and takes about a level to get used to it. Liberty Island is a pretty good training ground for that.
Thanks for the tips, I'll try it out vanilla first then.

I think I tried to play that level about 10 times over 2 years before finally committing to the game glad I did though
Wait, so we have to pre-order from Gamestop to get a grenade launcher and C4 charges? If so, FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU...................................
And we have to get it from another retailer to get a sniper rifle and a double barrel shotgun. "OH BOB SAGET!"
This is just going too fucking far.
There will be some sort of alternative sniper, but I doubt we'll get remotely detonated explosives in the game without a preorder. Which sucks balls, as you can't get both preorder packs. That is just wrong.
You can if you buy the special edition like a cool kid
I think it just means you start with some explosives rather than picking them up or buying some in game, same for the locking device. The unique things are the sniper rifle, shotgun and grenade launcher which are not upgradeable(see pre-order bonus pics) and there will be upgradeable analogues to these weapons in the actual game (can't see this game not having a sniper or shotgun). I do agree though this pre-order bonus stuff is getting absurd.

But if they release this stuff in the future as DLC, I will forgive them.
Oh they will, everything these days is free preorder DLC and then costs like $5 after a week
been playing Deus Ex and so far so good. The first mission wasn't hard at all, I'm playing on realism too. If you just go stealthy then it's a piece of cake.
Anyway, I installed the direct3d10 renderer and it looks a lot better now
They might end up releasing the weapons as DLC.
I'm still confused as to why they released the concept art for these weapons alongside the confirmed in-game weapons. If the pre-orders are booster packs and the weapons are still in-game then it wont be so bad.
Still wondering why my pre-order jacked up price even though they said it would stick. Just hope they release a demo so I will know if I can run it.

Never understood that logic.
I only play through games once personally - very rarely do I do it again right when I am done just to experience the same thing except slightly better. So why not just start off slightly better and give yourself a better first impression?

Maybe it was the crashes. whatevs
Shit, never realized they released the full CGI trailer song. Hurray.

You need to enjoy the game vanilla first before you can see what the mod actually changed.
I wonder if we'll be able to do an Alginon run in DX:HR.
No items, no money, no augmentations, no skills, realism mode, final destination.
oh and are the three difficulties in DX:HR actually "Casual, Normal, Deus Ex", or was that just a joke?

No the difficulties are confirmed. You WILL need to kill bosses but besides that the Alginon run will be possible from the looks of things.

Yeah they said something about there being no multitools, and hacking will have a greater emphasis. That would certainly make it easier, since hacking doesn't need items.

You can get the automatic unlocking tool which is basically a multitool but thats about it. I expect them to be very rare of cost a ton.
I just finished the Hell's Kitchen mission and god fucking damnit I couldn't get out of the warehouse area after spending like 20 minutes looking for another way out (I went in via the rooftops). I just wanted to finish the sidequests :(
But anyway, how big is the game roughly?
