I hope we don't have to recharge Jensen a whole bunch, what with his augmentations being rather permanent.
besides I hardly see how you equate "renaissance" with "japanese" did you even take history
as zezibesh said it's that quirky outlandish jap style to make things more bizarre than they should be and put in shit that would never happen those giant frilly collars or whatever will never come back, ever.
I hope we don't have to recharge Jensen a whole bunch, what with his augmentations being rather permanent.
You still have bio energy and it only regenerates the first pip of energy. So if you use an aug and have 2 pips left, it wont regen but if you have 0 pips left it will. There are consumables to get bio energy back.
The game looks fine and all but there's one thing that I think developers are constantly making a mistake with, and that is the third-person cover system. Deus Ex has always been played in FPS (if Deus Ex 2 is an exception let me know) and you are basically immersed into the world when you constantly play it in first-person, but when you suddenly switch to a third-perspective, in game, during a (probably) intense scene a lot of the charm and intensiveness is lost. You don't feel like you're there anymore then. To know what is going around everywhere around you, so you don't have to be scared of being found or whatever. That shit is stupid in my opinion. If the game is already in a first person perspective than fucking let it be that the whole way (except for the cut-scenes or the conversations) and don't NEGLECT the whole idea by inserting a cover-system no one will probably miss having.
I don't know Rainbow Six Vegas could still have intense firefights and it was easy to get surprised by getting flanked , I imagine its probably pretty easy to ignore as well
You aren't under any obligation to use the cover system. Nothing is stopping you from just crouching behind objects or walls, thus remaining in the 1st-person perspective.
I don't think you are forced to take cover in any game other than killswitch. That game was so hard that you need any advantage you can get.
as zezibesh said it's that quirky outlandish jap style to make things more bizarre than they should be and put in shit that would never happen those giant frilly collars or whatever will never come back, ever.
I'll concede that those frilly collar thingies look pretty weird but it's nowhere near on the scale of JRPGs. DX:HR is still very much grounded in reality.
I'm just very much adverse to it. japanese rpgs for the most part make me want to murder someone.
I'll be looking forward to actually getting a solid release date on this game. I don't think we'll be seeing it in March at this rate.
I'll be looking forward to actually getting a solid release date on this game. I don't think we'll be seeing it in March at this rate.
If it comes out in may I will instantly become poor and homeless. Too much shit coming out then.
I hope it doesn't come out in May. BRINK and Witcher 2 is already too much for one month, adding Deus Ex to it would just be ridiculous.
Don't forget this guy, as well:
Deus Ex: Human Revolution 'lives up to original' - Dev http://www.computerandvideogames.com/285940/news/deus-ex-human-revolution-lives-up-to-original-dev/ In may we've got LA Noire, Duke, Brink and Witcher 2. Also got Portal 2 and Mortal Kombat in April. Gonna be tough getting stuff.
Well honestly are developers worth quoting in these cases? Of course they want to sell their game, why would they say it's inferior.
I'll be looking forward to actually getting a solid release date on this game. I don't think we'll be seeing it in March at this rate.
Murphy's Law will dictate that it comes out at around the same time as Portal 2, and when Doctor Who Series 6 starts. Because I'll be in Spain :suicide:
Well honestly are developers worth quoting in these cases? Of course they want to sell their game, why would they say it's inferior.
News is news I guess. We're going to be getting info on the hands-on play tests soon enough.
Just why must developers reduce their sales by not having a demo? I just don't understand it.
Just why must developers reduce their sales by not having a demo? I just don't understand it.
That's not necessarily true.
I would rather try a game before buying it blind. I'll most likely be buying DX:HR of course, but in many cases I've completely skipped a game because I don't want to risk wasting money on something that is shit. No, reviews are not credible.
A demo is more than likely at this point. They've got it done(the game), all debug work now. David Anfossi said a while back there should be a demo and I don't see whats stopping them right now. The problem with making a demo is you have to get all the main elements of the game into something that could be 10 minutes long, maybe less. I'm guessing they've been doing these edited demos all the time so that they can get a good idea of what to put in the public demo that will show the game off at its best.
Demos don't have to be credible either. Many throw almost all the new stuff at you, you think it's cool, and everything after chapter 1 is repetitive and grind-tastic. Many self-proclaimed "honorable" pirates download a game to see if it's worth buying and then make their choice because either there's no demo out or they don't trust it for reasons stated above. Anyway, the number of people who will likely do this because of no demo will surely increase because of this. I don't know why Eidos does this, but there should be a reason. Too much effort? I thought they had enough time now that they got an extended deadline for polishing. Maybe the game isn't cut out to show a single chapter in the developer's eyes or chapter 1 takes too long or not long enough for a demo, all other chapters include spoilers that would ruin your real playthrough or making a separate level for demo purposes (like Valve created Lost Coast to show of HDR etc) isn't viable because they can't fit it in or something. I could write a small essay of possible reasons.
The demo runs they've shown in the past are heavily edited, nothing like it will be in the full game. The entire game is story driven which is the biggest reason why its hard to show it off without spoilers. The ATI tech demo they showed a while back seemed ok though. You're just taking out some thugs near Sarif Industries.
If DX:HR does have a demo, I'd rather it not start at the beginning. I definitely don't want to be spoilde the intro cutscene. They should throw us in somewhere like the Penthouse gameplay trailer that was shown, or maybe even the whole Hengsha scene, edited and trimmed down a bit of course. The reason the Hengsha scene would be good would be so that the players can get a taste of the conversations as well as the gun play.
I keep imagining that the demo could just be a modified E3 2010 demo, of course being less scripted and showing off the city hub aspect of the game, the multi-path mission design, and a few weapons like an explosive weapon, a sniper, a powerful pistol and a grenade type. The ultimate problem with all this is that how can you compact a game that has such grand and open missions into a 10-20 minute demo that will show off these features in the best way possible? In addition, you don't want to spoil too much of the game for the player, but you also want to give them a demo that has a lot of content packed into it. Perhaps we should try out the Deus Ex 1 demo and see how Ion Storm handled all these issues back then?
I'm assuming what they will do is they will throw the player in Hengsha. They have that one area to explore, while every other place is blocked off from exploring. Once entering The Hive, you can either pursue the main mission or explore a bit more. After you hear everything from Tong (either by eavesdropping or convincing him) then you will be teleported to the 'mission area'. More specifically, in that sewer where you have to climb the ladder up into the main area. From there, you can do anything you want to beat the mission. And of course, it will end with the scene with Barret. I've had this idea for awhile about PC game rentals. Now I know it's not entirely possible, but with Steam, I believe it can be. For a certain fee, you can purchase the full copy of the game for a certain amount of days. Let's say 5 days for now. Couldn't that be considered somewhat of an extended guest pass? [editline]28th January 2011[/editline] After a bit of youtube browsing, the Deus Ex demo appears to be the Liberty Island mission.
Could Eidos Montreal design a demo that allows you to import your progress into the full game, a la Mass Effect 2? Mind you, the demo for Mass Effect 2 came out months after the actual release of the game.
I'm sure they could, but most likely wont.
If there's a demo for DX:HR I really hope it's not located in an actual place in the game but in some fake mission. You know, like in the dead space 2 demo (kind of, they took pieces of level and sticked them together), the just cause 1 (and 2) ones, etc.
My list for this year is pretty solid so far. As spekter said, we've got L.A. Noir, which I've been excited about. Then we've got Duke Nukem Forever, which really needs no explanation. Of course, then we've got Human Revolution which easily tops the rest of the list. Been wanting it for years, and pretty much nothing's going to dissuade me from getting it. A demo would be nice, though.
Someone ask JJB about the demo.
