Confirmation doors can be blown up. Good news.
YES That was one of the things that made DX so great. Not enough lockpicks? Oh well. *KABOOM*
Most anticipated preview: http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2011/05/11/ten-things-you%E2%80%99ll-think-playing-deus-ex-3/ some new screens too
I'm worried about this game, it looks awesome but I'm not sure I want to blindly prepurchase it, for the fear of getting Brinked. As much as I love deus ex I think I'll wait for some reviews.
I don't think you can get 'brinked' with this game really. The only ting imo that might dissapoint is the social aspect gameplay or the story, which we don't know a lot about yet (due to spoilers). Look at this rpeview I just posted. The previewer cleary had 2 problems with the game, but he still calls the game 'fantastic' and 'probably the biggest game of 2011' also: 'Eidos Montreal could release this game tomorrow and it it’d still be in a better state than plenty of PC releases.' [editline]11th May 2011[/editline] http://www.gamersyde.com/news_gamersyde_preview_deus_ex_hr-11038_en.html new gameplay too !!! OMG
[sp]Pretty sure the boss he had to kill is Barrett. (Edit: Identity and backstory confirmed by Gamersyde) It makes sense - in Icarus Effect it's implied that Barrett beat the fuck out of or otherwise beat Jensen, and he's also not the type who'd give up if you just incap'd him. Not only is incapacitation useless, it's likely personal. In fact I'm pretty sure that whatever Barrett did to Jensen is the reason he's aug'd to shit now.[/sp] Icarus Effect spoilers + possible minor boss-fight spoiler (it's in the RPS article) right there

Kinda figured it was Barrett after reading the comic so I guess the comic is canon. I'll stop reading it now.[/sp]
http://www.gamersyde.com/news_gamersyde_preview_deus_ex_hr-11038_en.html new gameplay too !!! OMG

Another example: say you accidentally end up in the women's bathroom at some point. Well, if so, the next time you go see Pritchard (the tech guy responsible for the security of the network), don't be surprised if he reminds you that, no matter how much change your body has gone through, you are still very much a man.
if he didn't make the connection to the original deus ex he obviously didn't play it
I've been reading about this and it looks really, really fucking excellent. I hope it is.
They probably just like making up retarded words. I know someone like that. He thinks it makes him look cool.
moreish is a word. :colbert: [editline]11th May 2011[/editline] this reminds me of that guy who thought that hezzy made up the word "Pram".
I probably got about 10 Praxis points. You need 2 to buy an augment, 1 to upgrade Due to energy limits you cant. With two enemies in a room, takedowns are a risk Restore health yes, improve regen no. You can get your health above 100 HP btw Not really, though the shotgun seems quite powerfull (closeby shot will kill enemies and throw them in the air a bit) Some you get almost automatically, others you have to find. YOu mostly get them by audio ques when walking past a questgiver [on how you get sidequests] its the hold/tap idea [takedowns on PC] Passed 3 shops: One Limb Clinic where you can buy augmentation stuff like Praxis Points etc, One shop where you could buy weapons, ammunition and consumables, and one hidden shop you get from a quest (discount). There's also someone selling stuff in the last level of the game.
http://forums.eidosgames.com/showpost.php?p=1610804&postcount=86 [editline]11th May 2011[/editline]
Have you stolen things from shops? Is it possible? (Like in Hong Kong in DX1) What happens if you break into non-military private property and an alarm is set off? Are there police/bots patrolling? Are there many triggered events, like the triad fight in Deus Ex, when you enter the underground road for the first time? Have you explored and found any ledges or rooftops that you can only get to by say, jumping out of a window in a building?
You buy from a computer so you cant steal anything. Other than that there were no shops. Mostly the appearance of NPCs by completing a mission objective. Yes, some will require the jump aug to reach. [editline]11th May 2011[/editline]
Just played a bit on PC: no console on PC (atleast ~ will hide the inventroy bar) Doors can be blown up, but not sure about locked doors yet Due to mouse precision I have to say its relatively easy to go combat, since you can get a few headshots pretty fast.. Also, to give my colleagues some time to amaze you, I wont answer questions until 4 GMT, when all previews will go online :) Just think its fair, with the exclusivity and all.
[editline]a[/editline] http://uk.gamespot.com/pc/action/deusex3/video/6313104 http://uk.gamespot.com/xbox360/action/deusex3/news/6313023/deus-ex-human-revolution-extended-hands-on-preview-first-five-hours?mode=previews
Out of game engine cutscenes are my one of my banes in games at the moment other than that sounds great
"and by swapping numerical health for regenerating health, the murderous type can no longer make mistakes."
Well, guess I know which role I won't be playing.
"On the other hand, there are plenty of missions which instruct you to “find” something, when that something is right there on both your map and your hud. Thoughtfully, you can both turn these waypoints off completely and toggle missions on and off in your log so their objectives do or don’t show up, but you’d probably be giving yourself a headache. The game’s been designed for use with them, so there will be plenty of cases where the game lacks the necessary signposting. Having no idea which door to knock on in a huge apartment block would be a good example."
Yeah you see, I hope this is just an issue with the preview code they've got, or maybe that Quintin is just herping his derp, because otherwise I'm gonna have to say called it. One annoying thing that may crop up, is that some of the mission objectives are timed, so some (or all) of them might be designed with that HUD objective system in mind, meaning someone with the objectives turned on might usually arrive in a timely manner whereas someone with the objectives turned off might consistently arrive late because that person has to take the extra time to look around more while advancing, which kind of isn't cool. Another thing I'm not really too fond of is the EXP system, I haven't seen it in play yet nor have I got to experience it myself so I can't really judge how well implemented it actually is, but that's a lot of experience you're getting for making kills/takedowns, the reward for ghosting (moving without even having to perform any form of takedown) isn't there, so if I were weak willed I might feel inclined to go against my no kills no takedowns methodology and score a few takedowns because of the phat experience gains you get, that's not even scratching the surface of an EXP for kills/takedowns system, but I won't go into it until I've played the game. Just hope the rewards of performing kills and takedowns are balanced out in some way (like "This Jenson guy is a real fucking dickwad, tell you what let's set up some huge robots in this area just because he's a dick.") or that the game doesn't try to deliver a message about the value of human life while at the same time giving you significant rewards for ending it. Otherwise sounds good.

Gentlemen, all the previews of the first 10 hours are extremely positive. 10 hours is a big chunk of the game, I consider this game a huge succes already.

Deal with that, game.

http://www.pcgamer.com/2011/05/11/deus-ex-human-revolution-diary-the-psychopath/
Finally I face the lead terrorist, Zeke, who has another hostage. Negotiate? Sure, I’ll negotiate with bull- hang on, missed. I’ll negotiate with- oh, he’s killed the hostage. I’ll negotiate with- well, yes, I just shot him in the end, so that’s not really negotiation. I also shot the guy who burst through the door immediately afterwards, before I even realised he was SWAT. Then I shot all the other SWAT troops on the helipad, then I shot all the other SWAT troops on the top floor, then I discovered the entire complex had been completely repopulated with SWAT troops. And I did the whole mission again, in reverse. It’s like Hitman: these guys aren’t hostile until they see you attack, so you can stalk them carefully, get them on their own, and puncture them with your fist-chisels without alerting their friends. I have no idea why Eidos Montreal thought I might go through a whole 90-minute mission backwards after I’d already completed it, but they accounted for the possibility. And for a deranged serial killer like my character, it was fun in a whole new way. [editline]11th May 2011[/editline] The next time you leave Sarif HQ, it’s not by helicopter but the front door. You’re in Detroit, the game’s first city hub, and the point at which it really opens up. It’s not a full city like GTA or Oblivion – the closest point of comparison is the obvious one, Deus Ex. It’s a few blocks of streets and backalleys, and while you can’t go in every building, it’s actually more explorable than Deus Ex ever was. I find an arms dealer in an abandoned gas station and buy a shotgun from him. I find a gleaming LIMB Clinic, the surgeries where augs are normally installed, and buy some Praxis points to upgrade my own. And finally I wander into an apartment complex to talk to an ex-cop, now a security guard, about a side quest I’ve just picked up. He’s helpful, but- well, science. I have to find out if the game will let me kill him. I head up to the apartment he’s guarding, hack my way into someone’s flat and pick up their fridge-freezer. It’s a bit of a trek to get it downstairs, my the strength aug slowly draining my energy, but I manage it with enough power left to hurl it into his head. He’s knocked onto his desk, confused and understandably hostile, but by the time he’s stood up I’ve picked up the fridge again and hurled it into his chest, killing him. Sorry, friend. It had to be this way. [editline]11th May 2011[/editline] This game should come out NOW. [editline]11th May 2011[/editline] I finally find what I’m looking for, the apartment of someone involved with a theft I’m investigating for a friend. While snooping through his computer, though, I hear someone approaching. Esc! Esc! Esc! I press myself up against the wall and look round the bedroom door. A punk with a pistol is prowling the apartment, shouting for me to come out. I decide not to oblige, and blind-fire with my new shotgun. The crack is vicious, but the cloud of lead only glances him. He fires wildly at the doorway until his clip is empty, at which point I swing out, take aim at his neck, and hit him with a more accurate blast that sends him sprawling over the living room table. He’s not the guy, but I know where to find him now. He’s loitering by a skip outside, and I know from his e-mails that he has the recording I need on him. When we talk, he gives me a Robin Hood justification for his actions, and says he’ll only give me the recording if I deal with the drug dealers who’ve been hounding him. I consider it, then hit him in the face so hard that his head hits the skip. Not everyone is OK with this. Most of the hobos and punks in the alley cower, but two pull uzis and open fire. I’m hit before I make it to cover, but alive – barely. When they split up, I lean out and headshot one, then skewer the other as he tries to flank me. So many possibilities. [editline]11th May 2011[/editline] One of the most substantial sidequests in Detroit comes from a prostitute on Derelict Row who claims to know you. “Jensen, over here!” She says as you walk past. I walk over and slam my robot fist into her face. Everyone screams. Um. Look, I know how this is going to sound, but I honestly didn’t mean to do that. I just switched my melee key to what I normally use for ‘Interact’, and my muscle memory kicked in. She’s out cold, and depressingly no-one much cares that I hit her – no-one with a gun, at least. On her body, I find a thousand credits and a rare weapon mod. Well, no sense letting this stuff go to waste. I mean, sure, she’ll probably wake up soon, but… look, I’m just going to take it. Judge away.
http://www.pcgamer.com/2011/05/11/pc-gamer-uk-podcast-54-deus-ex-human-revolution-impressions-special/ I am so going to listen to this podcast when I am at work tomorrow :D [editline]12th May 2011[/editline] http://www.pcgamer.com/2011/05/11/deus-ex-human-revolution-hands-on-the-first-ten-hours/
I’ve played Deus Ex: Human Revolution for about 40 hours now, so I don’t think it’s too soon to say this: it’s incredible.
:'D O yes, yessss!
40 hours? That's like, 4.7 times longer than games normally are now.
They only have access to the first ten hours, so he played it through 4 times. IIRC the devs said it took playtesters over 20 hours to beat the game, and they didn't even do everything.
Game longevity is subjective. Depending on how you play and what you do it can take 15 hours or 50. So if a game is "20 hours long" that can take you 30 or more depending on what you do/how you play.

Sometimes developers will include every possible side quest and pointless collectible when calculating the playtime to make it sound longer.
