Hey guys, remember me bitching about climbing Black Mountain? Well guess what, after advancing to level 8 I've actually managed to do it! Here's how:
1. Went to Primm to buy a Bladed Gauntlet from Johnson Nash (I needed something armor-piercing to fight the Super Mutant Masters)
2. Traveled to Black Mountain and defeated a random Super Mutant, getting an Incinerator.
3. Pumped my character full of drugs.
4. Took a shortcut to the top of the mountain.
5. Here's where the things got tough. I had to defeat two Masters. So, I decided to sneak up on them. One of them noticed me (for some weird reason the other one didn't), so I whipped out my Cowboy Repeater and VATSed the fuck of his Sledgehammer. I've actually managed to land a critical hit, leaving the mutant only with his fists.
6. I equipped my Bladed Gauntlet and proceeded to beat the mutant. After a two minutes long boxing match, he went down.
7. After beating the first one, I went to defeat the second. This time I wasn't so lucky - I didn't manage to destroy my opponent's Sledgehammer, so I decided to run backwards, wait until my AP replenish and shower the Mutant with .357 bullets. I fell into the crater, and he ran after me. I climbed out, pulled the Incinerator out and showered the bastard with fireballs. Eventually, he went down.
8. There was one mutant left - and he was armed with a Super Sledge. After some sniping with the scoped Varmint Rifle, he charged at me. I lured him to the crater and showered with fire.
9. I proceeded forward, and two Nightkin Masters decided it'd be fun to kill me. Oh well. After some running backwards and shooting my Cowboy Repeater, they went down.
10. I sniped the Nightkin Sniper with my Varmint Rifle, but a third Master noticed me and started shooting me with his Heavy Incinerator (shooting, because this thing literally shoots fireballs). I hid behind a fence, and he put away the Incinerator and came to beat me with his bare fists. Dumbass. Bladed Gauntlet took him down without a problem.
11. I looted everyone (Annabelle! This Missile Launcher is a monster!) and went to rescue Raul. After I did, Tabitha with two other Nightkins attacked me. The Heavy Incinerator + Raul's .44 took care of them. I looted them, and went to loot the storage building.
TL;DR: I managed to survive Black Mountain on level 8. And I now have my favourite, sarcastic follower with me. I am a fucking winner.

Woah, that was a long post.

I don't think the world is big enough or the terrain even enough to have vehicles. Although a post-apoc game like that would be nice regardless of it being Fallout.
The thing I'm talking about is a small helicopter. It wouldn't have to go too fast, maybe about 2-3 times faster than normal running. I do agree that in New Vegas, land based vehicles would be inconvenient.

It's the one flying by the guy in the hockey mask.
-snip-
M.Caister Black Mountain isn't really that hard.
I've went up there with a combat armor and a service rifle and and kill everyone but still did the peaceful ending.

I assassinated Tabitha, Broke Rhonda into scraps, got the support of Raul, looted the supply closet. assassinated the nightkin that had the annabelle and hightailed it out of there without anyone noticing.
Not even Neil

I know what you're talking about, but it just wouldn't make any sense to have that and not other vehicles. You just kinda need the whole shebang.

Not unless you only had the gyro copter. But it'd have to fall into some sort of plot. Say, like, a Boomer found and old Vertibird but rather than juice up the entire thing he decides to shrink its scale to a one man flying vehicle. Of course the mission behind it would probably be to retrieve some parts (maybe even retrieve them from the crashed vertibird on the other side of the map) then after it's constructed you juice it up and viola, you can fly.

There's a peaceful ending? It would've been useful to me before I ballistic fisted Tabitha's face off.
I do find it kind of odd that there aren't ANY vehicles in the wasteland. I mean, it's been what, ~200 years since the bombs dropped? there are new quasi-governments, alliances between tribes, entire cities made of scrap, and no one's got the smart idea to fix a motorcycle or two? Or even make a wooden cart pulled by brahmin?
EDIT: Strike that, no vehicles except for the vertibirds the enclave has in FO3. But my point still stands, I mean, vertibirds have to be pretty fucking hard to put back in working condition.

And a monorail in New Vegas.

Fixing Rhoda makes Tabitha surrender.
And will make you cry.

The Vertibirds, being military vehicles, were stored in military facilities along with all the other Enclave tech. That's why they're still pristine and working.
Well there are people trying to fix vehicles, they just don't have the resources, the Boomers and the giant WWII era bomber is an example.

I love Wild Wasteland
I'm going to tear Compbizzie a new one
I love how you cheat :3:
A. Struggle on a energy weapons character.
B. Wait until Level 8 to the Come Fly With Me.
C. ????
D. Rape face with the Plasma Defender and Laser RCW!

Actually in a mission in Fallout 2, the enclave make vertibirds based on old plans. The brotherhood of steel have you go in and steal it from them. That's how the brotherhood has them. Also I don't think vertibirds were made until the enclave started making them could be wrong about that part though.

You are correct, in fact, the vertibirds weren't even deployed until shortly before the great war.
(Anchorage is non-canon. The terminals talk about how stupid and inaccurate it is.)

lmao that was just boredom to see how awesome the Holorifle is up against every Deathclaw in Quarry Junction

Holorifle is, along with quite of a bit of other stuff in Dead Money, a little unbalanced.
But because it's made by Bethesda, it's ok.

The enclave constructed their own vertibirds. The enclave made most of their shit at the oil rig, or on land using slave labor. Advanced Power Armor was also an enclave design built by the enclave themselves.
And the fallout 3 enclave.. well that can hardly be considered canon anyways. Fallout 3 had more inconsistencies and contradictions than the holy bible.

Not made by Bethesda it's made by Obsidian..
All the weapons in Dead Money are OP because of the fundamentally poor execution of the NV DLCs. The new DLC is probably going to raise the level cap to 40 and all the weapons and enemies will be at such enormous levels that they'll make ranger veterans and legion centurions look like a bunch of pussies.

I ran in there on accident with my new character.
It took a lot of fighting, 20 reloads but damn it I made it while starting at level 1 and ending at 3.

Combat Armor? Pfft, I had LEATHER ARMOR.
[editline]4th April 2011[/editline]
Also, damn, I wish the Service Rifle was full auto. Or even better, burst fire.
And who the hell thought that the Assault Carbine is going to use 5mm ammo? It's a goddamn Colt Commando, it should use 5.56!

Ooh, and I did Raul's "companion quest" (not really a quest) yesterday. He's a goddamn killing machine right now.

How do people still think New Vegas was made by Bethesda? :psyduck:

Well it was made by both. But Obsidian did more work.
