I know it's not the strongest, but the hunting rifle is my favorite weapon. It feels so satisfying to snipe something with it a mile away.
I loved it in Fallout 3, even if it was a fairly crappy rifle it got the job done and ammo was abundant. On new Vegas it is amazingly useful as the sights actually zoom in enough to make it useful.
Really? I despised the FO3 hunting rifle so much that I didn't even bother to pick it up off of corpses to sell. It was innaccurate as shit, and it was pretty much useless in D.C. as you would find the same amount of bullets that it took to kill a super mutant as it did to kill one.
Trying to talk to Melissa for the Oh My Papa quest. I approached from the West and couldn't get there due to unscalable hillsides, the South was the same I think. Tried going from the West, fuckloads of Deathclaws I stand no chance against. Went along the road North out of Goodsprings to approach it from the North, Deathclaws there too. Is there any other way there? They're fucking impossible. One or two Young Deathclaws aren't bad, but even one of the large ones fucks me up.
It's a bit tricky to see but there's a path leading from the Abandoned Great Khan Camp northwest of Quarry Juntion to a gap into the quarry right near Melissa, you'll still have to face a few Deathclaws but not as many as throughthe main entrance.

In new vegas the varmint rifle took that role and the hunting rifle became a proper .308 large game hunting rifle. [editline]5th April 2011[/editline]
*Insert Vault 87 here*
I think vault 87 goes up to about 24,000 rads. Or get the LE BB gun and blow their heads off with sneak attacks :v:

And having a high small guns skill seemed to make it a hell of a lot more accurate. I just hated the way FO3 handled ironsighting, it didn't look or feel right. But yeah, the Hunting Rifle as a backup for when you can't be bothered to carry a sniper rifle or don't have access to a better alternative worked well for me.
What's the most irradiated place you guys have found? I just found that house with like +22 rads per second.
A custom vault, I irradiated a full room going up to 400,000 RADS and stuck a bunch of Glowing Ones in there.
In F3 it was basically a varmint rifle since it used pistol ammunition.. In new vegas the varmint rifle took that role and the hunting rifle became a proper .308 large game hunting rifle.
The fact that Capital Wasteland Hunting Rifles suck dick makes sense. Since Washington DC is the capital of the US of A, it's going to be the prime target by the Commies. So, idiots that don't know the first thing about guns want a solid-looking rifle that looks like it could ventilate the Red Menace, for a low, low price. Looking at Mojave Hunting Rifles, gun entrepeneurs decide to recreate them, but with the cheap-ass materials of the Mojave Varmint Rifle. They make eye-candy guns and everyone with more money than brain cells buys one along with a can of anti-Commie spray.
Did anyone else find New Vegas to be way more glitchy/laggy than Fallout 3 was?
Not me.
My reputation with everyone but Goodsprings disappeared. Is there a way to get it back? Nevermind; it's because I'm wearing faction armor.
I'm thinking of replacing the Varmit Rifle mesh with the Hunting Rifle and the Hunting with he Varmit, I use both a lot. I am in a predicament folks.
I honestly just sell all of the worthless guns I get at the beginning for better ones, I generally don't stick with the weaker guns very long. The Varmint is pretty good for sniping powder gangers at medium range, and once I did get a lucky headshot on the one on the roller coaster at primm once, but I still sold it as soon as I found a better gun.
I've made my first mod! I was a bit sick of having the Lucky 38 or Tops or those casino rooms have to be the playerhome - they weren't as nice as getting one like in Fallout 3. So I made a little tent. :buddy:
OP should put the fallout Bible in the OP, interesting read.
Trying to talk to Melissa for the Oh My Papa quest.
Down the road from Goodsprings Cemetery is a makeshift Great Khan camp. There's a path leading up the hill from there though it's a bit hard to notice. From there just hug the cliff wall on your right until you see a path going up to Melissa's camp. Watch out for a few Cazadors near the Khan camp and about two Deathclaws will be near the slope entering Melissa's camp.
Get Invisible wall remover. Go anywhere Fuck the Deathclaws
I am totally looking forward to The Lonesome Road DLC, which hopefully Ulysses will either be a companion or the final boss.
It's continuously suggested that he hates you intensely so final boss seems more likely.

It requires 0 Guns skill and has a small STR requirement as well, and it's scope sway is almost unnoticeable. Unless they see you, a sneak critical headshot can and will blow your unsuspecting enemy's head off. It, of course, is a shitty weapon in a normal fight. Oh, and 9mm pistol + extended mag + the Fast Shot perk = a more accurate SMG. Seriously, this weapon is great. And fun to use! It's only downside it that one of the shelves is almost tipped over, and once some of my things disappeared mysteriously. It was something random, I think. This thing is basically a pocket sniper rifle, it's lighter and doesn't have the kick the Sniper Rifle does, allowing you to swiss cheese someone with six .44 bullets before they know what's going on. Same in Vegas, if you're lucky enough to find a .44 scope mod.

I've been looking for weapon mods. The varmit rifle with a scope and silencer is great, so I want to see what ales I can get. The .44 scope could be a great addition.

hey quick modding question I recently installed the New Vegas Bounties mod, and for some reason it's done something to my Nevade Skies mod Specifically, the nights are no longer darker, they're just as they are in vanilla New Vegas any help is appreciated
Sorry to post this, I know no one wants to read a troubleshooting post, but I'm trying to fix this freezing problem in fallout 3 and I swear I'm losing my mind. It crashes every time I leave the arlington library, which means I'm SOL and I can't go anywhere, and stupid me turned off all autosaving in an attempt to improve stability. I'm using the "bUseThreadedAI=1" and "iNumHWThreads=2" fix in the fallout.ini (the one in My Documents), but it doesn't actually seem to be registering in fallout 3. I checked cpu usage for a few scenarios and they all look exactly the same with load spread across all four cores: Test 1: I use the common fix to see what effect it has
bUseThreadedAI=1 iNumHWThreads=2
Which results in this: [img_thumb]http://img13.imageshack.us/img13/5960/with2threads.png[/img_thumb] Test 2: I force the number of threads to 4 to see what effect it has
bUseThreadedAI=1 iNumHWThreads=4
Which results in: [img_thumb]http://img859.imageshack.us/img859/1255/with4threads.png[/img_thumb] Test 3: Revert to the default FALLOUT.ini, using no threaded ai and no specified number of cores
bUseThreadedAI=0
Which results in: [img_thumb]http://img858.imageshack.us/img858/3387/withnospecifiedthreads.png[/img_thumb] It has no effect on performance either; I get the same framerate with each configuration. I also tested it with iNumHWThreads=1 just to see what would happen, and again it looks the same, all four cores in use. Am I supposed to be seeing a change here? I've been troubleshooting this for the last couple days and I'm about to just put down the game for good, but I want to fix it. Thanks for reading.

Unless you're not talking about "Debt Collector", but I don't remember any other quest tied to this cave. [editline]6th April 2011[/editline] Or was it Lady Killer? Brb, checking the Wiki [editline]6th April 2011[/editline] "Lady Jane is located to the right of The Strip North Gate. You can either get the money through a Speech Check of 40, a Barter check of 40, or the Lady Killer perk. With a Perception of 7 or higher, your character will be able to tell she is lying and get the caps. You could also ask for other things to help pay off the debt. Doing this results in her giving you 156 caps and 94 caps worth of sensor modules and cartons of cigarettes. (Neither killing or pickpocketing her will work. Doing either would result in you having to collect caps from her caravan.) Failing that, she'll direct you to the caravan she lost in the Broc Flower Cave. The caravan will be down the path to the right. Good loot can be found if you venture further into the cave." Straight from here. [editline]6th April 2011[/editline] Oh, and: "If you have entered this cave before receiving this quest the Brahmin will not be in the cave."

Luckily I almost alway pick Lady Killer and that other one, it makes fighting human enemies much easier.
Anyone seen this yet? http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/User_blog:Ausir/Old_World_Blues_reportedly_coming_in_May
