Am I the only one who doesn't like Raul? He seems just like Cass, keen to never shut the fuck up but not keen to actually do some killing.
Sure boss whatever you say boss.
Mothership Zeta 2: [del]Electric Boogaloo[/del] Black Mesa Edition? No thanks.
Though Area 51 is part of Nellis AFB bombing range
Though Area 51 is part of Nellis AFB bombing range
Black Mesa was bombed, too. It also got nuked.
Someone needs to mod in a whole host of dress cane-based weapons. Rifle made out of a cane that shoots moustaches? YEAH
Need a cane that shoots monocles, moustaches, top hats and fine gentry class all at once.
Am I the only one who doesn't like Raul? He seems just like Cass, keen to never shut the fuck up but not keen to actually do some killing.
I like his witty comments referring to his age and experience. He's practically the only character with a real sense of humour. He rapes shit with his 44. Magnum too.
I played through New Vegas on hardcore mode and didn't have much trouble, the only issue I ran into was staying hydrated, but towards the end I had enough caps to buy all the water I wanted, and whenever I was inside I'd go drink from a toilet or something, but after finishing it I reloaded an old save. Right now I'm running around exploring, picking up quests and whatnot, and I have to say that it's a bit more enjoyable with hardcore mode off because I'm not constantly annoyed by the fact that my skills are lower than they should be.
I love drinking my toilet water!

I myself like Root Beer, which is almost the same thing. Try leaving a Sunset Sarsaparilla in his inventory, then dismissing him back to Lucky 38, then watching him while in his sight for a bit.
That, too. Not a great one, since he can't fix even a Mr. Handy.
He can he just doesnt because he fears they will kill him if he does, so hes been stalling.
Raul has at least 90 science, and to repair that Mr. Handy takes like 40 or something. Like the above user said, he wont because the super mutant will kill him because raul is useless

I haven't had any problems at all - 10 steaks and 10 purified water bottles and everything is fine. I drink every time I'm in a building from sinks and whatnot so the water is going really slowly - When I see the H2O or FOOD marker I fulfill that needs right away.
Veronica is so awesome. She can kill deathclaws with her fist!
Playing Dead Money, had to [sp]kill Dog/God[/sp] because I didn't have enough speech. :saddowns:
Playing Dead Money, had to [sp]kill Dog/God[/sp] because I didn't have enough speech. :saddowns:
I only managed tog et him when I had my "charisma" character go into dead money. I don't like the new speech check system, preffered the Fallout 3 one. Though, neither of them are particularly good. I liked how in Fallout 1 & 2 it doesn't tell you it's a speech check, it just looks like another generic speech option. The new vegas sytem is utterly pointless, the only purpose the "failed" dialogue options serve is to amuse you, there's not much point in even clicking them. Its like the lockpicking system but for speech. [editline]11th May 2011[/editline]
It's one of the ingredients in root beer
Sarsaparilla plant is an ingredient. The drink sarsaparilla is different. Most rootbeer is made with Sassafras anyways
The new vegas sytem is utterly pointless, the only purpose the "failed" dialogue options serve is to amuse you
Does it have a dial? Turn it up to 11!

I HATED the fact that it doesn't show you its a speech check in Fallout 1 & 2, it doesn't let you try with the pathetic speech skill you have a la Fallout 3 or even let you know its there like New Vegas does. And I like New Vegas' system of speech checks MUCH better. My playthrough of Fallout 3's Broken Steel DLC had me reload a save over and over to convince that damn computer that I was a US Army general or something... with 100 Speech! In New Vegas, you can convince Lanius to surrender with that same speech skill. Big difference. Also, in Fallout 3, speech checks only used speech (most of the time) where in New Vegas, more of them started using other skills, Science and Barter seemed the most common. Although the lockpick system does need more work, I agree on that.
I don't hate Speech Checks, but I find it more immersive without them. and lockpicking should go back to being chance based.
for being a fan of Sarsaparilla. I myself like Root Beer
I'm pretty sure any companion drinks Sunset Sarsaparilla. Heck, ED-E drinks all Nuka-Cola I store in it. Also, Raul is just being sarcastic about liking Sarsaparilla.
Disagree. I HATED the fact that it doesn't show you its a speech check in Fallout 1 & 2, it doesn't let you try with the pathetic speech skill you have a la Fallout 3 or even let you know its there like New Vegas does.
It's an inherently terrible system. The checks are always in round numbers so unless you're willing to invest ten points each time then you're jsut going to have 9 skill points go to waste in all practicality. Fallout 3's system was bad, because Bethesda made a massive effort to capitalize on the things that make Fallout Fallout, so they went balls to the wall with things like VATS, Speech Checks, and Perks so the game didn't feel like "TES with guns" They put too few speech checks and most of the time the speech checks were of utmost importance. There were tonnes of speech checks in Fallout 1 & 2 and many of them were low key, so overall Speech was a very useful side skills and provided many side-benefits, as apposed to being a complete necessity for life or death dialogue options. There wasn't any need to go on "speech grinding," reloading saves so you can pass a speech check, because inherently many aspects of Fallout 1 & 2's dialogue was just better designed, and consequences of speech failure were more than just a dead-end nuisance. Not only that, Fallout 1&2 also had other things factor into Speech, like the user's disposition towards you and your "initial reaction" factors. Fallout 3's speech was not great, and New Vegas made it worse because you have to grind away at your skills so you can come back with a couple more speech points and pass a "speech check."
and lockpicking should go back to being chance based.
My "dream system" would just be that "very hard" locks would be nigh-impossible to pick at a low skill level, and as you go up in skill (and get better lockpicks) the lockpicking minigame becomes more feasible. Problem with Fallout 3's system is that just about all the cool shit in the game will be totally unavailable to you if you dont put an absurd number of points into lockpicking since they place all the cool shit behind locked doors.

It was great, but because I'm paranoid about running out of supplies in games like this I had about 50 Bighorner Steaks and 60 Purified Water on me. :v:

I love tribals
Oh my lord that is the best animation I have seen in a gamebryo game. (im talking about the burned man tending to his guns)

virtually untouched landscape, Yau-guai's. Awesome.
Is Dead Money worth getting? I plan to buy it once PayPal verifies my bank account.
