I uninstalled the game because I just can't grasp playing without a joystick. Keyboard for racing and flying games just doesn't fucking work!

Is it enjoyable with an X360 controller?
Is it actually compatible with an Xbox 360 controller? If it is then I'll buy it right away, because I played the demo on the Xbox and loved it, but it's cheaper on the PC and I don't have a joystick.
The game on the xbox 360 is more arcadey than the PC version! And appearently it's compatible with an xbox 360 controller, a wired one that is!

Well, the pc picks up my controller when i plug it in with a play and charge kit, so that should be ok.
I heard something about this not working with 64 bit windows 7.
Does it work or not?

Mind posting yours? Also, what does force feedback do on a joystick? Make it feel realistic? Like if you start diving it's harder to pull up or something?

Well, strong or weak vibrations depending on the guns you fire (that me262's 40mm cannon is hilarious) and when you stall it shakes, and it has resistance when you move it and so on. Mine's quite old, Microsoft Force Feedback II, from 2005 or so.

The ones I play on have two teams, each with several bases, which you spawn on and then dogfight enemies after taking off and flying to them. There are often "furballs" which is basically anywhere from 5 to 20 or more planes of the two teams dogfighting in a single spot in the sky, usually it looks like a swarm of flies. Some people also prefer to fly large bombers like the B17 to carpet bomb the enemy bases and the players who are still on the ground either taking off or landing, it's pretty awesome if you manage to shoot one down. They tend to fly so insanely high though that it's really hard.
I takes about 5-10 minutes to fly to the enemy base in a fighter, depending on the map. Usually the battles happen near the middle tho.

When trying to connect to a server via hyperlobby (first time i did this, it worked (steam version i'm using))
If I remember right, 4.09m is the AAA mod version which you have to activate through a .bat file that is located in the IL2 folder after installing the mod. 4.08 is the "official" latest patch.

you're right, i swear i joined that server and it worked fine (ain't got the AAA mod)
I don't know why this game isn't more popular. Life-like flying sims always get me. I love nothing more than flying in a bomber squad and just completely decimating the enemy base. Usually do it in A New Zero and in BF2 I was in a pilot clan. Was so fun.
We'd all fly together and just control the skies, and in BF1942, we'd drop out partners over enemy airfields, so they could steal their planes.
I can't seem to get the 360 gamepad to work.
Im on win7. If I look in devices and printers the icon for Microsoft Xbox360 gamepad via play and charge kits is there, not grayed out. When I get into il-2 I try to configure the keys, I wiggle pads around, hit buttons nothing. Any suggestions?
Can anyone gift it to me? :frown:
