I bought this and Stalker: SoC finally! One problem though, is there a way I can make them download and install on my D Drive? I don't have very much space on C right now, not near enough at least.
Is there a reason why on some planes the automatic gear button works, while on others don't. For example, on the wildcat, The gear wouldnt go up no matter how long or how many times I pressed it(ended up binding manual gear, and rapidly hitting said button every time I took off), whereas the same button works on the P-51.

This game is beyond good! I need to reinstall it! Then figure out how to get my data off my old IDE drive...anyone know of a way/cable to get info from IDE to a SATA connection? My new motherboard is sans IDE and i have about 2gb of skins on my old drive :(
Some planes actually don't have hydraulics or whatnot controlling the gears in real life, so you have to crank them up manually in IL-2.
Huh. Didn't know that. I thought my keyboard and joystick were screwed up.
Huh. Didn't know that. I thought my keyboard and joystick were screwed up.
If i remember right, it's only the Russian I-16 variants, and the US Navy F4F Wildcats and the FM-2 (which is just a wildcat with a better engine). I think it was 26 cranks in real life (too lazy to Wiki) to get the gear up on the F4F, so however many it took, you have to hit the key that many times. It's a pain in the ass.

As far as landing goes, it's just a bonus if they can use the plane again after, right?
Crash video was awesome. Made me want the game on its own.
What patch are you guys all running? I remember the 4.08m patch being the latest and now I see this new 4.09 release.
^ I'm a bit confused about that. Remember reading that its an unofficial patch
theres a server on xfire called: JG154 it runs the 4.09m patch (its a beta patch not an unofficial) its always empty, and has everything exept for the unflyable aircraft and water.
-nvm-
So what mods are good for this? What's this AAA I'm hearing about?
So what mods are good for this? What's this AAA I'm hearing about?
A mod that makes a crapload of currently AI-only planes flyable, and adds new too. Also new, better sounds. http://allaircraftarcade.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=11860 You need to register to download it though. I think we need some Facepunch dogfighting. The multiplayer is so much fun with a lot of players. You can get 20-30 planes all taking off at once, flying together in a huge swarm, and when both sides hit, there's a massive swarm of bullets and missiles... That's when your wing gets clipped by an incoming enemy who flies past you, causing you to spin out of control, and have to bail out.
What happens when you're shot down? Do you have to fly ALL the way back to the dog fight?
What happens when you're shot down? Do you have to fly ALL the way back to the dog fight?
Take off and fly back to the battle. Usually takes 5-10 minutes. As a small info tidbit, if you want good scores in multiplayer, you have to fly back to your base and land successfully. Shooting down an enemy fighter but getting shot down afterwards: 10 points. Shooting down an enemy fighter and flying back to base + landing successfully: 100 points. Shooting heavy bombers give more score, I think it was 20/200 or something similar.
It does depend on the map, though. Some maps have the bases about 30 seconds' flight from each other, others are a minute or two, others about 10 minutes.
Jesus christ the learning curve is steep. Went out and bought a relatively cheap joystick today. Its got yaw though. It is seriously hard to learn. Just about managed to take off with out completely trashing the plane. I usually have a few scrapes on take off, so I have to make do without one or two of the airelons(sp?) Carrier landings are an entirely different thing :derp:

I could be wrong, not sure how many MP missions force you to take off from a carrier. Also, make sure your flaps are in the take off position, and lock your tailwheel if you can once you're on the runway. Flying without control surfaces is a bitch, can't imagine having to start that way.
I remember how awesome it felt to take off a carrier and shoot down an enemy plane in a full/100% realism server for the first time.
Yeah I've been fiddling with the flaps, what buttons are they? My flap control method consists of interchangably hammering 'f' or 'v'
Yeah I've been fiddling with the flaps, what buttons are they? My flap control method consists of interchangably hammering 'f' or 'v'
Haha, it is F and V by default. V lowers them, F raises them. Some planes have more settings for them than others, but in general they can be raised, combat, takeoff, or landing. As they get lower they produce more lift so you don't stall out when trying to land or need a mile long runway when taking off. Make sure they're at combat or raised when you actually get up to speed, otherwise they can jam up or tear off. Sorry if I'm telling you stuff you already know. :v:
Are flaps just supposed to go fssshhhhhh and not say anything and what % flaps should I have when in combat
I've been doing ok, I just tend to stall alot when dogfighting.
Does this game take fucking weeks to learn how to play like every other flight simulator? If not I might try it.
Are flaps just supposed to go fssshhhhhh and not say anything and what % flaps should I have when in combat
If you have flaps assigned to a slider on your joystick, then yes. I don't know what percentage off the top of my head, but try somewhere around 25% or so. If your plane shakes and you aren't in a dive/being shot/shot already then you're going too fast for your current flap settings. Flaps at combat settings should cause a slight speed penalty but let you make tighter/faster turns, so in some situations you might even want them completely up. I'm not an expert, so someone else feel free to jump in and correct me if I'm misguiding here.
Hmm... Can anyone give me advice on how to be good? I used to play it a lot but never really got good at it.
Hm, darn, I could have bought this game aswell, I spent my last money on Kane & Lynch Dead Men. (I really wanted something to play splitscreen with my cousin and it was really cheap so was worth it.)
What sort of difficulty is mulitplayer usually at? Like do people use limited ammo/fuel, are stalls/spins usually enabled?
