What's better to use with this game, a joystick or a controller?
I don't have either, but I'm tired of using my fucking mouse and keyboard.

A good joystick is pretty cheap, and is the best to use for the game.
Once you get good with them you won't be able to use anything else.

Have you tried Xpadder?
I use my xbox controller. Although I have to use my keyboard for chat, bailing, starting the engine, changing view and position and other stuff but the actualy flying and shooting and stuff you need to do quickly is all bound to my controller.

Right Trigger, Left Trigger, Left Stick Button, Right Stick Button for Weapon 1, 2, 3 and 4 respectively.

Dude the Joystick is the way to go, IL2 is no Arcade game like Ace Combat, you need more precision and control than those analog sticks are going to give you

It also doesn't fly in real life.
The Lerche is awesome because I kept flying up to several kilometres in the air and flying full throttle toward the ground. It gets to 980ish and it starts to break apart. 1050 and it's just a tube.

I got someone to follow me up there yesterday. He was being a meanie in his own Lerche. He followed me when I went down, I don't know why he didn't pull up. He yelled at me for making him disintegrate :P

Put flaps on take off. Let your engine roar to full speed before releasing chocks. Don't pull up until you're at the very edge of the carrier and do it very gently.

Bind a key to Lock the tail wheel. That should help on your line, Drop your flaps to take off, and rev up your Engine to full RPMs (Full throttle) Before taking the chocks away. That should put you at enough speed to lift off, just be sure to ease onto the stick. If you pull all the way back you'll stall it, but don't pull back hard enough to lift off until you leave the deck
