The later model Zeros have better fuel tanks and are much more resistant against random burst of flames/explosions.
They still have paper armour though.
[editline]11:35PM[/editline]
The A6M6c and up have self sealing fuel tanks.
A single burst from 6 .50 cals = fireball Zero :D
But that fact makes your survival instinct go up and hopefully make you better at flying :v:
I love the fact that I only decided to use one after I saw you playing and tearing people apart.
Ever since I've played with the Zero. I love everything about it, even though bullets seem to cut through me like butter, I can fly so damn well around anything. Usually that puts enemy planes in my sights.
Did the server go down?

My internet is going on the fritz, discussing it on Ventrilo D:
Here's an update on Wings of Prey,
It's very fun, there's lots of features, single missions, campaign, tutorials (although all tutorials are in "arcade" mode, except the last two tutorials which teach you how to fly in realistic and simulator difficulties". You can set up your own dogfights against AI, any map and planes and all that. The damage is cool but not as good as Il2 1946, There is a nice selection of planes but I still wish there were more, and one thing that annoyed me was that some planes (most bombers) didn't have a cockpit view, very annoying.
I do like the amount of work they've put into the planes though, you can view all the planes in your "hangar" and each one has a history that you can read about, and theres an encyclopedia that include history and tactics and things like that. And in terms of the actual gameplay the battle are very satisfying due to the great effects and graphics.
I'm going to play multiplayer on it tomorrow, I just hope that not all the servers are arcade servers.
waiting for some one to come play on the server with me. Oh and my mic broke yay.
every time i get on nobody else is on ;_;
I've not had a Zero suddenly combust from gunfire, I've only had the slightest tap from a low caliber machine gun fuck up my pilot.
Thats because all that protects zero pilots from behind was basically tinfoil.
Anyone know why my plane keeps going up? I know it's the game because when I play wings of prey it's fine. But even when i'm not pressing anything it keeps either going to the right or upward. It's too hard to play like that. I tried it with the joystick and keyboard, they both have the same result.

You just have to get used to it. This is WWII we're talking about here. None of that "lol missiles" bullshit, or that pussy "auto-land" shit that you go on about nowadays.

Wings of prey is more of an arcade game. IL-2:1946 is realism based, in real life thermal cline and wind pressure would cause your plane to rise or fall, depending where your flaps are. Unless you are moving at 700km/h, there is no straight.
(Unless your joystick is one of the bullshit ones that has "Auto-lift")
Oh, so it's part of the game that it goes up? How come in youtube videos and such they fly their planes straight, and same as in the tutorial levels, he is pressing nothing and yet he is flying in a perfectly straight line.

Germany had guided missiles in WW2, they're even in the game.
Germany had guided missiles in WW2, they're even in the game.
They are in the game because 1946 is basicly a "what if" scenario. They never saw combat.

That still means that they had guided missiles.

Because you're supposed to keep a grip on the stick and keep correcting your plane to keep it straight.

They steer down.

If you play wings of prey on simulator difficulty setting, the planes do go up, and sometimes to the left.
Yeah the Zero, but the best plane of all is the Hs-129
[sp]Lovingly named: The dickplane[/sp]
Loved for its godlike cannon.

It's engines die out when you turn upside down, that's always a nice feature to have.
They need to bring back a modern day equivalent of the Spitfire.

So do earlier Spitfires, I believe it's because they lack fuel injection.

Is it true that has Starforce through steam even though it doesn't say so on the store page?
Oh, ok thanks for the clarification guys. I like IL2 strumvik better than wings of prey mainly because it is more realistic in the sense that you don't shoot down 80 planes per battle. It takes a while to line your sights and watch your ammo and actually hit them. IT makes it so satisfying when you get a kill.
Is it true that has Starforce through steam even though it doesn't say so on the store page?
I don't think it has starforce, you have to enter the serial key steam gives you when you first start it but i don't think there's any starforce.

It seems I can't join any servers, it just times out everytime.

Do you have Hamachi installed? When I disabled the network driver it solved my problem.
Planes stall to easy in Wings of Prey. Simply turning slightly left or right in some planes causes an unrecoverable stall.

Another reason Storm of War will be better (HOPEFULLY).
So planes that aren't boats float.
