At least the BI-1 to the BI-6 isn't able to dogfight and is a test plane.
It's out? :derp:
Yeah it's out, and I got it working.... it sounds fantastic Although I do miss being able to hear someone coming up behind me
Hey guys. I've had this game for about 3-4 years now. I've made a a lot of mission for this game and if you guys want, go ahead try them out: http://mission4today.com/index.php?name=Downloads&file=search&sa=4466 I havn't played in awhile and i think ima try and get back into missions making. Tell me if you like them, and if there is anything i should add or do.
Wow, controlling the planes is hard! I keep stalling in the air. The jets seem a bit easier to control:
Rocket :bang:
Sorry, rocket. Still much easier to control though! Anyone willing to give me flying lessons online/through vent or posting tips here in the thread? I don't get all this 'trimming' crap and how do you pull out of a stall?
Sorry, rocket. Still much easier to control though! Anyone willing to give me flying lessons online/through vent or posting tips here in the thread? Don't pull on the stick for awhile. Doesn't always work though, sometimes you just gotta jump out.

If you're stalling and spinning left, throw right rudder, and vise versa, and put the nose down
Hey, wow... This trimming thing makes the plane way easier to control once you get the hang of it. It's hard to maintain in a combat situation though. Should I be using the rudder in the air? If so, how?
Uh, yes. Flying with a keyboard is damn near impossible. You could always use a 360 controller like I did.
This explains a lot. Got this in a weekend deal pack, don't remember which one, but I spent nearly an hour trying to just take off, I just figured it was so realistic only a real damn pilot could figure it out. I managed to make it go forward then do a front flip onto its back, Not bad for an hours work eh? I'll try it out with a game controller later.

There are so many damn keys that often I'm fumbling with my keyboard AND joystick at the same time.

Not to mention when your wing has a gaping hole in it the only thing that's going to allow you to turn without flatspinning is your rudder
I tend to have both hands on my 360 controller in an intense dogfight, with a "speed up" and "speed down" button
Damn, seems like I did a tradeoff with devil or something. I traded my superior accuracy for general improvement. Before I managed to shoot down enemy fighter with the penisgun at the range of 4something km. Now I occasionally hit 'em at 300m.

Is a joystick alot more fun than a 360 pad? I'm guessing it probably is as its realistic.
The BI-6? Its in vanilla IL-2 and its uncontrollable too.
It got added in 1946. Until then only the Bi-3 was in Il-2 i think it was added in a patch for Forgotten Battles. Regardless, the plane is crap. It has so little fuel, and too little ammo. i can hardly shoot anything down with the thing, despite the 20mm cannons. Also, i think the Bi-6 is like the Bi-3 in the fact that once you exceed it's maximum speed it just noses down. Until you eventually do a million inverted loops into the ground. It's pretty cheap and gives you throttle, a good stick with tons of buttons, and a rudder control on the throttle. I loved mine, until my dumb ass dog chewed through the wire just before i got 1946 up and running again. Stupid dog. Try amazon though, i think i found one for about 50 shipped. That's a steal.
Make sure your X45 is coming with some sort of mounts like Suction cups or clamps though. The stick is big and clunky and requires force enough to move the entire stick out of position, and since you usually have the other hand on the X45's throttle, you aren't holding it down with your hand
I just drilled holes in my desk for my X52 because the cups sucked and not having cups also sucked
I used Clamps that came with an old steering wheel for the Sega Dreamcast.... VERY Nice wheel too, shame it only works on Dreamcast
I hate getting Boom'n zoomed as soon as I take off.

Until a few days ago I had strictly played with it (full realism minus camera limitations), now I hooked up a controller. I play with one hand on the stick and the other on they keyboard since I depend on it for various functions.
So i reinstalled IL2-1946. Great game, love it. Only problem seems to be my joystick. It keeps leaning to the left in the game. Im not even touching it and my plane would just roll. I tried to clean it, and a shitload of dirt/dust came out but it still wont work. For those that think my plane isnt trimmed, it is, it's something with the joystick. Is there anything i can do? It just goes to the left. Even at the "pitch" window, or the HOTAS, it shows it going to the left, when im not even touching it. It's a Logitech Extreme3DPro. Thanks. -Also, how am i supposed to calibrate it? I cant find anything in the game to help.
Calibrate it in Game Controllers in your control panel.
1) calibrate it 2) if there's any play in your stick, meaning if you don't touch it, is it perfectly centered, or can you move it around a little bit before there's resistance? If there is, In your control Input in-game, take the Deadband and move it up some, Move filtering up just a notch or two as well, and those sliders that read 10, 20, 30, 40, all the way up to 100... Make sure they aren't all at 100, else the slightest input will be translated to 100% Input. Your Rudder (yaw) may be all 100's, if that's the case, Put them at like... 6, 10, 16, 26, etc, with more and more distance between them until you get to 100. You realllly want to be able to do very very very Minor adjustments with your rudder, more so than large inputs of it, so the majority of your Rudder Axis should be used for small inputs
Depends if realistic gunnery is on or off.
Only pussies and idiots use unrealistic gunnery. Real men take down enemies with their landing gear. :clint:
Do real men go kamikaze on their fucking enemies? Because that's what happened to me.
I was just playing IL2 and kept accidentally bumping people with my wings and having to bail.
