I would say the Cyborg X, but I have the Exteme 3D Pro, and I can say that the force version of it will be amazing.

Thanks! I didn't copy the parts of the file, I edited it manually. Now I can try and make the config settings that Snuffy posted try and work on my pc.
Could someone give me any hints on flying with full realism? I can handle flying straight, but as soon as i enter even the slightest turns i spin out of control and head 90 degress straight down.

Are you using a keyboard? If so, invest in a joystick so that you can be precise with turns and such.
^ if you are using a keyboard to control the plane, no you cant play on full realism.
be easy on the stick. set flaps to combat mode if you are going to go combat.

Speaking of combat flaps, planes with warning alarms in the cockpit in Hsfx don't like the combat flaps. Is there any way to remove that? It may be something like the Zuti DS mod I activated which adds the alarms.

Like Divez said, subtle movements with the joystick, don't pull too hard into turns or you will stall.

I just remembered what I was meant to post a few weeks back. I've known this for a long time, but I think all the new players should know. When you try to save a mission on the quick mission builder on the Steam version of IL2 Sturmovik 1946, it won't save. This is because 1C Maddox forgot to put a folder named 'quicks' in the main IL2 directory. To fix it, just create a folder called 'quicks' (Without the apostrophes) in your IL2 directory located in Steamapps/common/IL 2 Sturmovik 1946.

I fucking hate when people say that. I played with a keyboard for two years before I got a joystick, yes you can play full realism and online with the keyboard. Yes it's incredibly difficult to shoot down anything since your movements are always so binary (either being fully engaged or not at all), but it's not impossible and it's still really enjoyable.
It's just a matter of getting used to it.

I flew 3 years with keyboard on IL-2 Sturmovik and IL-2 Sturmovik: Forgotten Battles before I got joystick for IL-2 Sturmovik: 1946 and LOMAC.
Ok, i practiced some more today and i'm quite good now. I havn't spun out of control or stalled in the last 2 hours. My body is ready for multiplayer.

I think newer ATI cards only support water=2, or at least that's what I've heard. Could that be your problem?

I'm using a Nvidia GTX 460, so that isn't the case.
I bought Il-2 1946 on steam two days ago, downloaded, played it a bit, went to sleep. I can't launch it anymore, the steam preparing to launch window closes, the il2fb.exe process opens for less than two seconds and closes without any window in sight. Help. UAC is off and it worked yesterday without compatibility mode just fine.
I haven't installed any mods or patches yet, I still need to get used to the flight mechanics.

You may have 4.09b1m, it's a beta patch mostly misappropriated to be the proper 4.09m version. Do you have the game on steam?
