The manage 3D settings doesn't work if you own the game on Steam.
I'm running it through Steam and it's working just fine for me. You'll probably need to add the il2fb.exe to the list yourself, though.
So I bought this on the Steam sale and now I'm waiting for a Logitech extreme 3d pro to arrive! Now, I'm trying to get all this mod business sorted out. I've downloaded all the hsfx files, 4.09m patch and some special patch for downloaded versions, but the package says it's for direct2drive. I'm assuming it works for Steam versions too? Are there any other mods or tweaks I should be aware of?
As long as you have 4.09m with HSFX you're good to go, mate. Hope to shoot your ass in a spew of glorious friendly fire.
Apparently the steam version is already 4.09 (although mine oddly wasn't). Just boot up the game and check the version while it starts up (bottom right or left corner, can't remember). If it isn't just patch it with that thing you downloaded. It'll be fine all the patches should be the same.

And keeping with tradition, it has to be on the runway, killing multiple people, and forcing the host to restart the mission.
I read somewhere that the 4.09m patch needs to be installed anyways. Oh well, no harm in doing it anyway seeing I already have downloaded it.

Looking forward to that. :D
Is there a way to increase power to individual engines. (I broke all my control surfaces off in a dive, and I want to be able to steer somewhat)

You have to have seperate engine start enabled (perhaps advanced engine management as well) and deselect the engines you do not want to alter and then increase power. It comes in very handy when you've been shot.

bind a key to select your engines
i was going to say r but that's for the radiator
It kind of worked. I landed, but broke a wing off and ended up on my side. I survived though.
There is. Storm of war, let me show you some pictures, hang on.

IL-2?
With better graphics?
And enhanced gameplay?
WHERE THE FUCK DO I SIGN?
Is there anyway i can configure this to use a 360 controller? I don't have the money for a joystick right now but i haved a wired 360 controller.
Is landing on skis in unmodded IL2 even possible?
The second they touch down they snap off, no matter how lightly I land on them.
Never mind, just landed on them.

Now get the PBY Nomad and do water landings. That thing is amazing for water landing and takeoff, one hell of a boat.
Figured out how to force settings with the ATI control panel. Just right click your control panel icon in the tray, go to your graphics card>3D Settings and there are several options
We better be playing more IL-2 tomorrow (read "today") than we did earlier, nothing ultra-funny happened.
Also, Profan I found the map. It was Crimae.
I forgot some maps had horizontal scroll bars :suicide:
haha, when im getting the joystick, im just going to take a flying tank, and just fly right into you!
only jackwagons do that and they get kicked
damn it. then i'll just try my best to shoot you guys.
I'll shoot you first
and kill you
i remember my favourite plane was one of those newer Ki's
You know?
this game is so good
i would DIE if maddox made an amazing tank sim, too

I would DIE if Maddox would give us any more information about Battle of Britain: Storm of War, they said they would release it Christmas 2009 and then November 2010, but still no information and it hasn't been released. :silent:
There have been weekly dev updates for ages over at the 1C forums....

haha yeah that too!
The 360 controller is actually pretty good for this game. Im still getting a proper joystick though.
I don't think i could ever get used to a joystick. So I'll just use this here PS3 Controller.
Playing a "real" sim with a gamepad feels so alien to me. Third-person airborne shooters work fine with a gamepad, but the fine control and added functionality of a decent stick make sims so much more enjoyable.
Joysticks are infinitely superior to gamepads and I think I'll leave it there.
case in point: X52 Pro
Joysticks feel incredibly alien to me. Seeing as I practically haven't seen a joystick for over half of my continuing life.

They are much smoother to use than a gamepad, for me at least. Rudde control is completely integrated into my aileron and elevator controls. All in the same stick rather than if I used a gamepad. That would feel alien to me.
Not to mention shit loads of buttons yay.
