So what's Cliffs of Dover like?
Fukken sliiiiideshow, bro. All sorts of other things are screwy, so don't rush out for it. Wait for a good few updates.
I'm holding on to my pre-order and hoping I get lucky, but I imagine with the amount of trouble people are having I won't be able to play. That's fine with me seeing as I am already aware of that. For once a delayed release has made me feel ok.
Give the game a few months or more before you buy it. So much potential but yet another game with a dissapointing release. I'm thinking of going back and trying Rise of flight again, that was the same shit - was buggy and shit on release, might be okay now though - trouble is I can't find how to re-download the game I bought
http://riseofflight.com/tryrof/en Just download the demo, it is the full game but when you entered a activation key on account and log in, it will remove the demo timer. Also, check out the new planes: http://riseofflight.com/en/store
Ah thanks, I thought it might've worked like that but the link for the demo download was shit and slow Oh wait, do I have to register first or can I just download the demo, obviously I already have another account so just says username taken when filling in my details Ah nevermind...see the link now!
more people should get a-10c its a game that was actually playable on release and they dont take the piss with dlc like ROF, supose its partly there own fault because they still dont seem to have put it on steam (or if they have only in certain regions). i havnt been playing much recently because i dont want to memorise my x52 layout then get a thrustmaster warthog hotas but if anyone wants to play online pm me, same goes for blackshark, it will be great when they release the patch so you can fly the ka-50 and the a-10c together
more people should get a-10c its a game that was actually playable on release
Except for the fact that effects.dll caused lots of crashes and you had to fix that with getting newest Beta drivers, newest DirectX and newest Microsoft Visual C++. And that still haven't fixed everything as the effects.dll still causes crashes for me, so I gotta wait for 1.1.0.7 patch to be able to actually play without fearing of crashing when something gets hit or explodes.
that sounds hardware specific i have 1.1.0.6 installed and it never crashed even beta 4 was reasonably bug free and i have used almost every available weapon system effectively with a focus on the guided gbu's or cbu's so i have blown up a lot of stuff
Where do I look for mods? I'd like to fly the B17 and some other planes that you can't fly in vanilla. Plus, the engine sounds are cringe-worthy.
http://allaircraftsimulations.com/forum/ I believe that's where all the modding of IL-2 is anyway.

I thought they weren't able to patch Ka-50 and A-10c together? I know they did it with KA-50 and Lockon 2 but I heard they wern't going to bother, would be nice if they add more aircraft with teh same detail though so once again you could have guys running with A-10s and some other dudes provided overhead cover in F-15s

I was watching A-10C a bit before they went to open-beta, but I decided I couldn't get it because of the amount you have to learn.

It's the electrical systems that make it seem really overwhelming.
For me it is launching mavericks and the startup that is overwhelming.
the startup is amazingly simple once you print out one of the A-10C preparation and startup lists from the manual.
Or do the tutorials those always work.
Or do the tutorials those always work.
until you forget what you just did
Yea that is a problem.
that's the wonders of a DCS game, though, and truthfully learning the A-10 isn't really that bad. It's the electrical systems that make it seem really overwhelming.
And that's my biggest problem, electrical systems. It's why I hate most modern flight simulators. The electrical systems are so overwhelming. In IL-2, it's just click the trigger and shoot. In A-10, it's turn on weapons systems, cycle through the weapon, engage some other shit, then you're ready to fire.
the startup is amazingly simple once you print out one of the A-10C preparation and startup lists from the manual.
I may just get A-10C. I already know how the Weapons page on the left MFD works, and how to use rockets, iron bombs (with ripple settings), and the gun.
Oh I am missing a wing? I can land it. loved this game, too bad my computer now is terrible and cannot handle it.
Is Operation Sea-Lion going to be in this? Is there a picture of what areas the map covers?

I just picked up a Logitech Extreme 3d Pro (ridiculous name for a joystick), and I'm wondering: Is there a way to set a dead zone for the twist rudder control? There's a bit of play in it that gets picked up as rudder input, which makes the planes jerk around a bit. Defining a dead zone in that axis would fix the problem. Also, is there an option or mod somewhere to disable the tendency of all the planes to roll slightly to the right when you're trying to fly level?
That's because of the propeller. If the propeller spins to the right the plane is going to pull that way. Same thing if the prop spins to the left. It's why a lot of planes with two props have them spinning into each other to prevent such pull. Trim your rudder and your problems will be solved.
My only issues so far have been the lag, lack of customisation, and insanely violent headshake. Oh yeah, and it seems starting your engine is no longer as simple as it was. In the first mission, I pressed the starter, the engine turns over several times, flames spit out of the exhaust and it stops. I try again atleast 10 times with the throttle in different positions and I still can't get the plane to start.
-snip- double post
Just got cliffs of dover, first Il-2 game. Seems pretty fun, managed to make my engine break somehow even though I didn't even change the direction of flight, get shot or touch anything...I then spent 5 minutes rolling around on the ground in the frame of the plane, not slowing down at all...Just rolling :v: I am also experiencing the lag others said about.
