Goddammit I just bought a 3DS.
Not necessarily a bad thing, lots of great 3DS games are scheduled to release this year.
Is $135 a special kickstarter price or that going that going to be the release price as well?
Not necessarily a bad thing, lots of great 3DS games are scheduled to release this year.
I don't regret it, I'm just saying that now I don't have enough money to buy this thing.
The screen size is a real boner killer, guys. I still definitely want one, and will probably in buy one
why is the screen resolution such a problem for you? No classic consoles even use above 320x240 and ew upscaling.

Yes, but it has a few more advanced games like Quake which would be much more enjoyable with a 640x480 resolution

I guess but I don't really see it as a dealbreaker. A 640x480 screen would be great, though, I agree
Here's hoping this thing is more capable than my old GP2X Wiz.

I'm going to spend a ton of my time playing this now. :D
I've had a Dingoo and a Caanoo, and loved both of them. I think it might be time for an upgrade to one of these.

How's the d-pad? Is it squishy (lame) or clicky (awesome)?

That's a good question. There are quite a few video's on this youtube channel that show it off. It might be hard to tell from a video but you may be able to: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL_HMl00OlQX9DoItQPN2MemZkgn_eSd3e

Quake I, II, Hexen II, etc feel right at home on 320x240, these games were meant to be played on 320x200 (you get a little bit more of vertical FOV on the device than on the original). The dev team always unite for a quick quake match from time to time. I need to rebuild my toolchain to get back to work, when I do, I'll see if I can get you guys a few screenshots of Quake I.

Face buttons are somewhat clicky (but thank god they're not these awful bouncy triggers that break all the time), and the dpad is a little squishy.
oh man, Hexen II. Gonna be great playing this on the bus assuming I can figure it out without a walkthrough. :v:
that game, man, that game
(BlkDucky broke my automerge.)
Also, the 320x240 screen has a few advantages:
- Better battery life (Less processing used + low power consumption panel)
- Less RAM bandwidth consumed. (Embedded devices tend to have RAM as a big bottleneck)
Against the obvious drawback of losing some graphics. The team ended up deciding it's best to have the advantages. Keep in mind the original DS had worse screen resolution than this. (No, I refuse to acknowledge that both screens unite into one huge screen)

Get ready for the frustration man, that game took me many hours of blindly walking around. (Fucking worth it, one of the best shooters.)

Skulltag is dead, they forked it into: http://zandronum.com/
Also, right now we're using a multi-game fork of Chocolate Doom that supports DooM (and the respective "sequels"/expansion packs), HacX, Heretic, Hexen, Hexen: Deathkings of the Dark Citadel and Strife (I chose Cdoom because it's the most accurate vanilla doom port, emulating even the constraints/bugs that are arch related to the DOS releases.)
I want one so bad. 7 days until I can afford to back this!
Despite being a really good idea, it's specs are underwhelming, but it's on a tight budget after all.
Will protective cases be made for these?
Backed it, I'm expecting greatness

Thanks for your support, hope you'll get more than you can bite with this one.

People reported that PSP cases can be used to a certain extent. But depending on the success of the device, who knows!
So, this should be able to run mid 90's games and possibly some newer ones like FTL?
Already planning on getting one, I just don't have the money for it now.
A quick overview of quake's timedemo1 running on the Quakeforge engine. Soon a video on Quake II's multiplayer feature will be posted on youtube too.

EDIT:: Ditto, here's the Quake II video.

If the game is ever ported. It all depends on how much publicity we get.
An update bump::
We've did it! Our kickstarter reached the 130k mark earlier this day, thanks to everyone supporting this project and backers alike.
I want stretch goal 2 (free mini-hdmi to hdmi cable) so I can play Battletoads on my TV through this.
congrats fellas, your project deserved this support.
I expect great things from this
Very happy this made it, I intend to pick one up when my financial situation improves. Got a few friends interested and a couple even backed for a system.
Also, the video mentioned support for the PS1, any chance of video proof of this? What about the N64? I'm pretty damn curious about just how much this system can manage.
A decent PS1 emulator would be great. Would have the same problem as the PSP in that the device only has one set of shoulder buttons and a single analog stick though.
I was wondering the same thing. However, I am not worried because I am assuming
Other things need tweaking, as USB host mode (to be able to connect USB peripherals)
means there will be the capability/possibility to use a USB controller in future updates?
If that's the case, it would be awesome to basically have a portable N64/PS1/whatever that you can plug into your Tv and use an external controller with.

Yes. Support for that is coming.

I'm pretty sure that a properly written emulator will run really well in this system.

If only there was a second analogue stick with which to enjoy an FPS with.
Apparently it passed stretch goals 1 and 2, now it's almost made it to 3. Are you guys going to add any more if you get more pledges in the last 50 hours?
