Oh the puzzles... I loved how the propulsion beam can tansport you, making you go up to walls, to the celling and such. Idea for a mechanic: make some kind of color detector: example, there are cubes of 3 different colors, these colors activates some bridges, when you pass trough a color changer, all the bridges from other colors deactivate, and only bridges from the color of the cube still activated.

Also, I don't know whats going on behind the scenes, and I honestly would give much better feedback if there was a small demo or something. (I'm not asking for one, I'm just saying its hard to give feedback off some screenshots)

They don't have overly complex geometry, don't rely on AI too much and don't need noding for that reason. There is very little you can fuck up in Portal mapping.

Area portals parented to doors Nodraw(we actually build the whole maps in nodraw first then add textures to walls we can see) We turn all complex and small geometry into "func_details" We always use the grid system, usually around 16 units for basic mapping, Then smaller for details. After we compile the maps, we go into the game and turn "Mat_wireframe" on so We can see how much further we can optimize the map. We make sure there is absolutely no leaks what so ever. (which is one of the reason we fired Optics, because when there is a leak, he just puts a nodraw box around the whole map instead of finding and sealing the leak.) We use cheap textures where ever the player cant get close to. we try hard for quality control.

Bad: -Some puzzles could frustrate first time players -So many ways to get stuck in a level -Some lights are a little off in my opinion -Levels sometimes are just plain broken Overall: Good looking game, but pretty broken.

Some parts were broken like you can get cubes stuck some places making the level unsolvable. With the blue bridge that makes you go faster, that bit always is unsolvable no matter if you jump, crouch, or anything. There's a part where I think you have to smash a chair out the window, but that doesn't work. There's a lot more, but I won't go into detail.
It's the joke, pills. And: -Good: Levels have eye candy -Bad: Uncreativity. Example: Using the portal 2 theme in the trailer. The Storyline. An architect who has to rebuild GLaDOS to escape the Enrichment Center.. WOW, SOUNDS SO FUN.... and stupid.

You cant make it do all the work ;) To break the glass all you have to do is grab the chair look at the window and walk toward it, although you may be right, new players my not be able to figure that out. as for the cubes being stick, I need to know where they are getting stuck. We are still finishing up the new story and it has nothing to do with GLaDOS now, beside her dead body. Also your still not giving constructive criticism your just being insulting.

Any level with a cube I guess.[/QUOTE] hm, that is strange, maybe the beta optics leaked was very old and unfinished, because I had that problem with the speed platforms along time ago in the early stages of the map, it is fixed now to where you almost don't need to run. As for the glass I don't know why it wont break. try turning on impulse 101 and shooting the glass, and if it doesn't break that means the map you are playing is the unfinished version. but I'll talk to khan tomorrow and see if I can get him to remove the glass, it seems like it would be to complicated for new players. also when the cubes get stuck are you talking about if you throw them both up by the exit door on the ledge so you cant get to them. Because I don't think a regular player that wasn't looking for glitches would do that.
