What's sadder than the Eurogamer review, is the fact that people are getting turned off of this game because of it.
It makes me sad to see those comments on the article...
I love how I rage when I crash my car. Or even more when someone crashes into my car (my owned car, not a temp one I will sell anyway). The only difference in crashes between this game and real life is that I can actually take out my tommy gun and plant all my round magazine into the fuckers head! Maybe next time he will know better how to drive, idiot!
[sp]Just started the full game, that word war 2 bit at the start was pretty damn unexpected, awesome, but unnecessary at the same time.[/sp]
spoiler tags my friend, not everyone knows about this, don't ruin it for them
Though I own this game for the PC, I just got a Xbox controller for my PC to play games like prototype. Am I an idiot for using it for Mafia 2? (It already supports it. :v:)
So the reviews seem very, very mixed. A couple of reviews saying that the game's amazing, and Eurogamer's 4/10 review.
Yeah both this and Kane and Lynch 2 (Kane and Lynch more so) are getting some of the most mixed reviews in a long time, I don't think I've ever seen a game get a freaking 1/10 and a 9/10. I'll be renting this through lovefilm and purchasing later for PS3 if I enjoy it, apparently the PS3 bonus content is pretty darn cool.
What the hell is up with that Eurogamer review? Are those idiots 10 years old or something? It's one thing to not like something, it's another thing to say it is flat out bad for no reason
it was probably some fat pedophile with no life who reviewed it

No, works great. Love driving cars with it.
I use my 360 controller to drive cars, I shoot with my mouse.
For some reason on story mode when the game starts up, it crashes for me. I used steam so i don't know what's wrong and it's beginning to piss me off.
Argh, the Destructoid review is horrible. He points out that the game isn't a sandbox and shouldn't be judged as such, and then says (in the same fucking paragraph) that Empire City doesn't have enough to do.
:downsbravo:
I don't get how it's not a Sandbox and GTA4 is... They have the same amount of shit to do, aside from side missions, right?

Mafia II is not a sandbox. You just have free time to go to a store or do something between the missions and bed time. It's like in METRO 2033 or Call of Juarez 2 you had a little pauses when you are at a market to trade for some stuff. But that doesn't make it sandbox

Sandbox is OPEN WORLD is it not? Meaning technically, Mafia II is a sandbox.
Just not to the same level as other sandboxes.
i took a gander at the eurogamer review
its like he was trying to be clever and witty like yahtzee but just ended up looking like a fucking moron
anyways, this game is fuckin great

But there's playboys, an open world, shops, different ways to interact with shops and the world, persistent stat tracking of your vehicles you decide to keep...
It's a sandbox
Soundtrack for this game is so amazing. Why don't we have music like this nowadays?

There is still very little to do other than story. Games like GTA and Saints Row have all those side-missions and activities you can do which add to the re-playability. I was pretty disappointed to hear there were nothing to really do but story missions.
Okay, maybe we should call Mafia 2 a linear sandbox.
If it was an open-world sandbox game I don't think it'd be 10sq miles. It's smaller than GTA4. Meh, it's still a kickass game, and they've put more thought into stuff you want (excellent story, gameplay etc) than stuff you don't (stupid fucking cunts like Roman, annoying sidemissions.)
Eurogamers review is pretty fucking shitty.
I mean, seriously, sorry to shatter your fucking view about Mafia-men, but pro-tip: it's more realistic. Especially Chapter 6, although I do agree with some other points brought up in spoiler tags earlier.
It's a driven atmospheric game, good and worth the money
And the bit about the hallways? Wow, all the apartment buildings look the same! It's almost like they were all built from the same plans, and used the same materials for each! Sorry that's not varied enough for you, but welcome to the 20's, 30's and 40's.
It'd be like someone complaining in a game set in the projects, that they all look the same!
Ridiculous.

That doesn't change the fact it's still categorized as a Sandbox game. The open world is what makes it so.
But this game is more about story, it's very story driven, if you went in expecting otherwise, then you're quite... unobservant.
So, is there any kind of Free Roam, or something?
In between missions you can drive around, change clothes, buy weapons, tune up your car. Not particularly, other than sight-seeing.
Could I use my old geforce 5200 along side my 5770 as a dedicated physx card using cracked drivers?
No you cant use that 5200 for Physx. Its only Geforce 8*** and newer graphics cards can be used for a dedicated physx card. I have a working 7600GT which I want to use as a dedicated Physx card but I cant.
I'm going to get boxes for this, but...

What do your licence plates say? :smug:
Nice. Just picked up my copy.

Annoying side missions in GTA 4? Never seen any. And Joe is very similar to Roman.

I never said it wasn't a sandbox.
Well shit. I got it from Gamestop and the War Hero or Vegas Packs weren't included. Next time I go back I'll ask 'em.
