I just played the full game on friends Xbox360. I have many registered hours in the demo on PC, and I thought the main game will not surprise me as much. Boy I was wrong... I'm a very picky person when it comes to gaming, but the full version just blew my mind. Mafia 2 is a lot more singleplayer like Half Life 2 than free-roam like GTA IV - and that's a great thing! First of all - demo is nothing compaged to what you will feel when playing the full game. Imagine a Half Life 2 demo where only trainstation, plaza and apartments was avaible for free-roam with no mission or objective, and then the game comes out and you experience the full Half Life 2. Same thing with Mafia 2. Weather effects are the best effects I have ever seen in a game or a movie, I'm not overreacting because I've been playing this game for 3 days now and the "first play euphoria" is long gone.
Missions are built like this (no spoilers, don't worry)
You wake up, phone call, you answer the phone and get a spot you need to go to. Time of day is fixed, and it's great, I will tell you later why. You can do whatever you want now and free roam. Then when you get to the objective, mission starts, you do your job, free roam again and go to bed.
So in my fav mission, you start in a midday similar to Mafia 2 demo day. You go to "another job" that went wrong, something terrible happened, but you actually completed it, but lost a friend (not main character's friend). And then you are told to drive home (or free roam and then drive home). And after all these believeable cutscenes and dialogs which made you feel what Vito feels very good, you drive down the road in this BEATIFUL sunset, it's so fucking beatiful I can't describe it, you will see it yourself when you play it. Every little light bump and detail is in place, when you drive and see that masterpiece, you think "This is actually exactly what I'm expecting to see If I was here in this hour in real life" The bright sun that shine right at you from the horizon, long shadows, orange asphalt, the little fog in the darker areas like parks (a lot of high trees), lights coming trough this small fog..
If you are thinking "It's ok, I can wait another two days", then you are doing it wrong. You need to build a time machine and play this game right now because It's awesome!

I think it'd be nice if you posted some lua snippets in the op. Just a suggestion.
There's a link to mafiascene which has a nice wiki on it.

That brick wall texture on the left is terrible...
Looks like we're going to need a high res texture pack.
-Awesome description-
I'm going to pick this up now. I just hope that it looks that good on my crappy PC...
I hope they add motorbikes later on.

The wiki is one of the first things they see when they go to the site.
It's impossible to miss. And besides, there's so many possible Lua snippets that the OP would have more code than info on the actual game.
Nice shop here

I doubt it... "Because wise guys wouldn't ride a motorbike". They keep using the same excuse to be lazy.
I'm glad all the clothing stores aren't the same.
Just Pre-bought it

You ever heard of a mafioso in the 40s/50s riding a motorcycle? No? Know why? Because that would be STUPID.
So why not add it as DLC for freeride or think of something else outside storyline. Those who want story will just buy the game and play it, those who want extra will buy DLC stuff. win win?
Why is everyone talking about getting past the boundries and modding it for full game content when the fulls games going to be released in a few days.

You ever heard of a game being realistic? No? Know why? Because that would be BORING.
You ever heard of a game being realistic? No? Know why? Because that would be BORING.
durrr I don't like realism, so no one does
Seriously, deal with it. You people nitpick over the smallest things.

Because for some it's fun?

The game is trying to keep a realistic 40s/50s era Italian Mafia feel. The Mafia never used motor bikes thus adding them would be breaking away from the atmosphere of the Mafia and Mafia II would just be another GTA clone set in the 50s.

You ever played GTA? Yeah? Stick with that if you want motorcycles.

Same with jumping and swimming: Hey, do you remember when Al Capone swam across a freaking river then started jumping around like an Italian plumber?

Well, surely there must be other people in the city who drives motorcycles? You can also ride milktrucks in the game, I doubt the mafioso used those as well.
actually motorbikes would've been pretty cool
whats the point in the Greaser Pack if you don't have
motorbikes?
Nor do I remember the devs say it was because of realism, because one of them(Jack?) said it was something they couldn't figure out how to make work in the game, but if they ever do, it would be some nice content for DLC.
