I don't see why so many of you guys are complaining about this game. I didn't plan on buying it because I didn't think I would like it. But I decided to buy it a few days ago and I really like it. I also see people complaining about no free-roam? What the hell are you people talking about? There's plenty of free-roaming in this game.
Whoo some advice for the export achievement
What they needed was 6 months less so they had less time to cut all the fucking content out. I bet $100 the game 6 months a go was a bigger, better (albeit buggier) game than the retail.
They didn't need an extra 6 months. What they needed was to actually use the decade they've been working on it to produce something amazing. I understand they built the engine from scratch. Sure, cut 5 years off of development for that. There is still plenty of time. Obviously, the writing could have been so much better. More depth, more character development, although this game has better development than others, even in its butchered state. Content that they were planning to make, should have been made. If you've already halfway finished a feature, you don't just cut it out. Obviously, it was important, so finish it. They had more than more than enough time. Shit, I could write a better script than this. Actually, now that I think about it the writers probably didn't do a shitty job. The mappers, modelers, everything else is good. The writing was probably great after a polished draft. Obviously, they meant for much more story to be in the game than what was actually in the game. So who was responsible for cutting out content? If I was a writer for this game I would be furious. You don't just butcher a script and take chunks out and expect it to be just as good. You just don't do that.
Dan Vávra had a perfect story on this He did an awesome job on the first and the second one too before it was cutted ... Then he left and The Mafia II began to fall
why is ambient occlusion offset with m2dev? like the overlay interferes with it as if it were made for a certain resolution which causes ambient occlusion to be off
why is ambient occlusion offset with m2dev? like the overlay interferes with it as if it were made for a certain resolution which causes ambient occlusion to be off
Are you talking about what looks like ghosting ? if so it's poor coding to do with the lua console overlay.
Only problem I have with the story is that I wish there was some more character development. Maybe a little bit longer with more missions. Otherwise, I am fine with the story including the ending.
Anyone having problems with the PS3 version? I'm on the last mission, and it freezes at the EXACT same spot every time. It's a little more than annoying now. I didn't pay £40 just to nearly finish it.
Yeah, I've heard quite a few people complaining about freezing on some missions on the console versions.
To me what kills the story is not the writing, its the way the story is told. The pacing is all over the place and the mission structure is very repetitive. Why do we need pre-rendered really ugly looking cutscenes to skip time? Why can't Joe or Henry come to my apartment instead of always calling in the morning? The original Mafia just had a great flow to it, never really a dull moment other than the race.

It seems like you (as most are) are bitching about the game because of the bandwagon. It looks just fine, the story is great, things were removed for a reason, not to piss you off.
Sorry but some of the cutscenes are badly done. The dudes light there cigarettes about 5 inches away from the lighter.

There are at least 3 obviously pre-rendered cutscenes. 1) When you get out of prison. 2) At the cathouse with Joe and Eddie. 3) After you pick up the drugs with Joe and Henry. and the story is far from great, its average at best and forgettable.
Yeah there's definitely some pre-rendered cutscenes. I don't mind them that much, but it's kind of noticable that they're pre-rendered.
I understand things were removed for a reason. No shit. But it depends whether it's a good reason or a bad reason. I'm not just bandwagoning. I was really hyped for this game. I liked playing it, and it was all in all a fun experience. The ending let me down, but I get the open ending sort of deal, even though it's a shitty cop out in my opinion. I just feel very strongly about cutting a script up, and taking too much time for the game with nothing extravagant to show for it. I wish they had kept the original writer and not cut anything out. That's why movies on books, games on books, games on movies, and movies on games don't work out. Because something is always cut out or redone terribly.

The prerendered cutscenes are all the .bik files in the video folder. Not THAT many.
Yeah there's definitely some pre-rendered cutscenes. You're wearing a suit you can't even buy in the game. lol and before someone says it's one of those expensive ones from Vangels, it's not. Besides that the shop the mission sends you to does not sell that suit.
They removed those things because they want money from it so that's why they had such guts to do that
I don't think so. They removed some chapters from the beginning of the game. Putting DLC for something in between chapters is absurd and would be really weird.
The biggest tip off that a scene is pre-rendered (Aside from the framerate was WORSE during cutscenes than actual gameplay for me) was the Contrast was way up there
It was obvious when you went into the cathouse and he was wearing a suit you didn't even have.
Very very interesting. String for changing clothes like your army uniform and prison uniform etc. I'm crashing when I try to run it, though.
I don't see why so many of you guys are complaining about this game.
These days no matter how good a game is people still criticise and complain about it. Nothings good enough for gamers any more.
Are you talking about what looks like ghosting ? if so it's poor coding to do with the lua console overlay.
yes
I'm a bit disappointed I can't drive an oil tanker through one of those old billboards, that'd be so fucking awesome.
These days no matter how good a game is people still criticise and complain about it. Nothings good enough for gamers any more.
Not true at all. I liked the game quite a lot. I would have liked it more if it was better, as would most people. When a game could easily have been better, yet isn't, of course you are going to be disappointed. I'm not a big whiny baby, it's just logical.
I didnt mean this game alone did I?
then you're being irrelevant this is a discussion about Mafia 2 and how so much good shit was cut because the devs are greedy fucks
