Yeah, I mean let's compare Infdev Minecraft updates to Beta Minecraft updates... Notch has gotten lazy ... :sigh:
WARNING! BEDS IN THE NETHER EXPLODE IF YOU SLEEP IN THEM!
See, what happens is this. You try to sleep in the Nether. But you can't, you're too scared. What's that?! A noise! It must be a Ghast, working its way to your bed with the intent of destroying you! You pull the covers over your head, hoping the noise will go away, but it comes ever and ever closer! You start to panic! Then you dutch-oven yourself. That + all the fire is bad news.
WARNING! BEDS IN THE NETHER EXPLODE IF YOU SLEEP IN THEM!
This is the best bug ever.
This is the best bug ever.
It isn't a bug.
* "Fixed" beds in the nether

WARNING! BEDS IN THE NETHER EXPLODE IF YOU SLEEP IN THEM!
well I was GONNA reply to this with a pun but looks like I can't think of anything
WARNING! BEDS IN THE NETHER EXPLODE IF YOU SLEEP IN THEM!
why are you trying to sleep in the nether
I think the testing procedure Notch uses is as follows: *code code code code* "Alright, let's see if this works..." *compile* "Whew! No errors! ...Wait!" *loads game into menu* "Yup! Game still works.* *quit game* *code code code code* And repeat. Last I checked Notch had some TALENTED programmers on his team, I think it's about time they ditch the old engine and started from scratch. Something stream-lined, modular, something that would make it easier for his devs and mod devs alike.
I remember when he was coding the small indie games for the competitions. This is exactly how he codes them.
A complete rewrite from the ground up would do Minecraft good, this time building the engine with multiplayer in mind.
You can't do shit while you're about to teleport. That includes talking, disconnecting. Technically you could screw with someone and put bedrock around a portal and mess them up.
Also, I have to close Steam just to run Minecraft with a small bit of lag now.
A complete rewrite from the ground up would do Minecraft good, this time building the engine with multiplayer in mind.
Yeah but there's no way someone could rewrite every feature the game currently has between now and release.
Does anyone still has the old files laying around?
BAM! Sent you a PM because I know you own minecraft.
Yeah but there's no way someone could rewrite every feature the game currently has between now and release.
He already knows what he wants alot of the things do in the game, writing a new engine as a side-project while continuing development on the current engine *should* be fairly easy. But this isn't based on my opinion, this is based on someone who actually knows how to code.
stairs, a button at the top and bottom, both connected to a toggle circuit that toggles all stairs.
maps need a LOT more pixels. my entire castle only takes up one speck of map. just up the amount of pixels per map. dont change how far it will map, just change the resolution...
because I was too lazy to take a better screenshot, I can see everything there just fine its not a big deal
I can't see shit. And there's a bed right there I mean c'mon.

its a lumpy bed
5 months before the release date, making a new game engine sounds like a really well thought out idea!
He says 5 months, but do you buy that, even for a second? It'd be better for him and the community as a whole if he did a re-write. He doesn't have to make a new graphics engine from scratch, there's tons of open-source GNU Do-What-The-Fuck-Ever-You-Want rendering engines out there that he can use and tweak to his little fat heart's content, he's just gotta build the mechanics behind the game (preferably in something more efficient than Java), which he already has an idea on how he wants certain things to work so like I said it *shouldn't* be too hard.

But I think the only thing that will happen at release is a 5 euro price increase and MAYBE a minor content update.
Zero-Point, although it sounds like a good idea to start off from scratch, do you think Notch will ever do that? He worked on this for two years, I don't think he's gonna throw that all away and start fresh.
Oh god....
welp died, so all my diamond tools with not a scratch are broken now [editline]26th May 2011[/editline] this being a "bug fix update" is such beautiful irony.

Since he has much more experience and a whole group of talented coders and whatnot, a rewrite would make Minecraft a much better game.
welp died, so all my diamond tools with not a scratch are broken now [editline]26th May 2011[/editline] this being a "bug fix update" is such beautiful irony.
Well, every bug fix so far has led to two more new bugs being formed. With this many bug fixes, I half expected minecraft to cause your hard drive to explode and burn down your house.
Maps stop working like, 10 seconds after I join a server. Things are all around broken. I've never been this upset at an "update" before. I just want to play.
You can only fix something with band-aids for so long until one of two things happens: 1) It falls apart and you have to start over anyway 2) You tear it apart and fix it properly.
Yeah, the first is probably is what is going on. From the looks of it, the number of bugs fixed and created are about the same and Notch is still working to solve the problem so it could go either way. I am not saying that is bad or anything, and I am certainly not complaining about Notch. The guy has a lot of his plate and it must be tough going in and fixing things making sure that nothing gets broken in the process at the same time.
