I don't know bat shit about coding, but Notch can expect this to happen every time he does a bug fix run. The code probably is one giant clusterfuck of some kind, otherwise this wouldn't have happened I believe :v: We'll see what will happen. [editline]26th May 2011[/editline] I know what's going on (portal 2 SPOILERS) [sp] Wheatly got in control[/sp] :v:
The new bugs are worse than the old ones AND he still hasn't fixed the worst bugs there are.
The new bugs are worse than the old ones AND he still hasn't fixed the worst bugs there are.
Agreed. It's not fair to compare the lists of the two. Most of the things he fixed were trivial, and most of the new ones are gamebreaking.
Agreed. It's not fair to compare the lists of the two. Most of the things he fixed were trivial, and most of the new ones are gamebreaking.
That. I already noticed it, it might be a 102 lines long list of bugs. But 90% is something you don't even notice/a small fix. The bugs there are now are all except that. They can be compared to a list double the size of the first list when looking at the way they influence the player :v: [editline]26th May 2011[/editline] I wonder when the blog comes where he states that the code has lost it. Maybe in a week, or (much) later. But I'm sure there will be a time that it reaches the sneak update level of brokennes (greyscreen madness, even though, it's gone quite bad already right now)
Agreed. It's not fair to compare the lists of the two. Most of the things he fixed were trivial, and most of the new ones are gamebreaking.
Not to mention some of the beneficial bugs that got fixed such as the booster and boat elevators.
Not to mention some of the beneficial bugs that got fixed such as the booster and boat elevators.
You do benefit of the light bug, you always have a dark place if you need one :v:
I suspect that no matter what Notch did, these problems would have hit Minecraft at one point. Look at it this way, it means that the problems are sorted now rather than later, and will probably sort the code out as well.
probably just will be a temporarily quick fix, and after a month or two it happens again, oh well. I'm done for today now. [editline]26th May 2011[/editline] jens need to get back on coding the PC version.
You can only fix something with band-aids for so long until one of two things happens: 1) It falls apart and you have to start over anyway 2) You tear it apart and fix it properly.
You have a good point, Zero-Point. [editline]26th May 2011[/editline] But I dunno, maybe not so much of a complete remake. Maybe something to pull it out of Java though?
I'm so glad I read this thread which signalled the "back up world" warning to me:
Notch should do what Valve is doing with TF2 and others: Have the normal game that is stable, and have a beta release that is updated much more often.
Notch should do what Valve is doing with TF2 and others: Have the normal game that is stable, and have a beta release that is updated much more often.
Or even better, Mojang should have a dedicated QA team.
I'm so glad I read this thread which signalled the "back up world" warning to me:
I just redo my worlds on every update. I guess I'm not too attached to my single player worlds.
Does anyone still has the old files laying around?
Not sure if late: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7333627/Forums/Minecraft/1_5_01.7z I try to archive each stable version. I only started at 1.4_01, though.
I just redo my worlds on every update. I guess I'm not too attached to my single player worlds.
That world is a mp world that my bro and I have been playing on for countless hours. We pretty much built a little town from ground up and don't want to leave it, just extend it.
5 months before the release date, making a new game engine sounds like a really well thought out idea!
I don't care how long it takes, as long as it's a great game. See: Half-Life 2, Portal 2, etc.
I just redo my worlds on every update. I guess I'm not too attached to my single player worlds.
Not much need to become attached to any world. At the moment no world has anything significant that another does not. They may appear different and the biomes may be of varying sizes. But in the end, each world is exactly the same. Boring really, but Minecraft is in Beta. I hope that as the months go by worlds will be more unique. I want a reason to care for any of my worlds. Also even with this latest update I'm rather bored of the game. I used to love it and have great fun but SMP lags too much for me, there aren't enough threats in the world to make it dangerous and without any goals such as boss monsters, major events, or anything extravagant to discover except for that really cool cliff face, there is nothing to keep you from becoming bored as all hell. Notch needs to find a way to make Minecraft fun, challenging, and really bring to the table something that'll make exploration and discoveries amazing. I still love this game, I just see so much unused potential.
Aw shucks, they fixed the booster glitch. Now my transcontinental railway is just a walkway full of useless kilometer-long boosting section :saddowns:
All of my fences are gone. What the fuck, man.
God dammit Notch.Get your ass up and fix this.
I miss the weekly updates and bug fixes..
* Fixed items in glass blocks not getting ejected properly
FUCK YEAH THAT SHIT PISSED ME OFF
FUCK YEAH THAT SHIT PISSED ME OFF
Explain, what did that fix? I don't believe I've had the honor of experiencing that bug, or realizing it was a bug.
Explain, what did that fix? I don't believe I've had the honor of experiencing that bug, or realizing it was a bug.
Break a block of stone then place glass right where it was, you'll see the stone ore floating inside the glass.
Ah, thanks. Yeah thats happened to me plenty of times and pissed me off plenty of times. Misread the bug fix statement. XD
XD

^ :byodood:
XD
Putting this in your post just earned you a palace of boxes.
XD
You had a decent post, but when you added that just fucked the whole thing up.
What the FUCK. Look at the version history: http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Version_history Each new patch introduces a dozen fucking new bugs. What's the point of taking three months to do a massive bug fix patch when that patch introduces just as many new bugs as there were before. My favorite is patch 1.6.2. BUG FIXES: Fixed new item duplication bug NEW BUGS: The item duplication bug was not actually fixed and then it goes on to list 14 new bugs
