EDDY TT said something about some kind of launcher for MC that doesn't auto-update it. I kind of need it. I want to play some MC 1.5_01 with my friend (who just got his MC version rolled back to 1.5_01) on my 1.5_01 server, but I'm afraid of Minecraft just updating itself without asking me first. Anyone have a link to this launcher?
The new launcher actually asks you if you want to update.

Alright, thanks for clearing that up.
Woa, So much drama going on in here...
If I paid for it I would expect it to actually work how it should.
It's not a final version yet. :geno:
It's not a final version yet. :geno:
I don't care I still want it to work.
Does anyone have a 1.5 .jar? I'd like to downgrade until my friend's server can update.
One of Notch's problems is that he doesn't work enough. I know I can't say how often he should work, but do you really think big game devs(like Valve) can just decide when they work? Of course not. They probably get 1-2 days off max a week and I'm sure they work a real long time each day. Notch is lazy whether you guys like it or not. And with Jeb and some other devs working on a portable version, which shouldn't even be in the works yet, it makes it even worse.

And yes, I know it's on the Minecraft forums, but there's still some good stuff on there, It's just buried under a lot of crap usually.
I say notch should rewrite the engine entirely. Start from scratch. Since he now knows exactly what he wants and what the community wants, making a brand new engine will make things more organized and hopefully easier to code for everyone.
I don't care I still want it to work.
It does work. :colbert: [editline]27th May 2011[/editline]
I say notch should rewrite the engine entirely.
It does work. :colbert:
But not like it should.
But not like it should.
It's not released as a final version either.
He could at least take it out of Java.
I agree with the idea of a complete rewrite, but I'm not totally convinced that taking it out of Java would be a good move.
The beta status entitles anything can happen. Whether everything breaks, or whether everything is working fine. That's why some developers insist having their game in the beta title for so long, so they can use that as an excuse for when they break things or something goes wrong. But just because you paid for it does not mean you have the right to attempt commanding the creators like dogs on a leash. You can live without precious Minecraft for a while. It's not like Notch is going to leave the game how it is, he just didn't know how severe the bugs were and it took him some time to react because he was out doing things (you know, since he's a person with a life just like the rest of us. Probably has more of a life than most of us do anyway) I'm sure he loves the game just as much as all of you do and he doesn't want it to be broken either. If Notch didn't give a fuck about his community and the game he made, he wouldn't be even trying to update it. He's pretty much set for life, or at least a very long time. And I'm sure, with his status as Minecraft creator, he can whip up anything and then sell it, and it will be successful. He's got literally nothing to worry about. Yet he still at least attempts to improve and expand his brilliantly successful game. Stop with the bitching. Go outside. Go play another game. Go do something besides pointlessly bitch about a developer who makes honest mistakes.
This thread sure is full of Notch fanboys sucking his dick at every update and blindingly defending him as usual. You must be blind deaf and dumb to not notice that the game is fucking broken with horribly obvious bugs and Notch has even acknowledged that shit is extremely fucked up. But what did he do after releasing the disaster update? Patted himself on the back and partied with his friends. Theres a difference between expecting too much and expecting professionalism. Hence the "Totally professional" in the update list, which is "totally" ironic that he included that as that update caused a new wave of bugs. The "whining" and "butthurt" is totally justified when notch takes forever to add seemingly simple things (Although I do doubt maps are trivial) and manages to somehow include massive game-breaking bugs. I don't even believe he tests them anymore, he just spends 5 minutes going in game, crafts the items, and calls it an update. If you haven't experienced any of the new bugs, you must be a pretty boring player then. What did we get in this update? Disappointing hatches, grass that needs a new world to generate and is also ugly, disappointing maps, useless dead shrubs, and a metric fuckton of bugs. Its obvious that even after taking more than a month to make this update, it was rushed. It's like he forgot about it entirely, rushed the whole thing with barely any testing, makes a half-assed video and calls it an update. Just go outside and play with your friends you dirty neckbeards its just a game am I right? I'm not even mad, just severely disappointed.

I hate the grass so much I am not planning on making a new world for it. Weeds are a terrible idea.
Well obviously, but it takes a special someone to fuck up royally like this.
It can still be easily fixed with some time and effort. Yes, he clearly did not do enough testing. And he clearly did not think all of this through, and that was his mistake. Tons of developers have done this, and there always will be developers who do this. Because, every developer out there (as far as I know) are humans. And, as human, you are entitled to make mistakes in your life. Notch's twitter states he is indeed planning on fixing everything. Of course, it's going to take time. And it's going to take effort. Now, this is the part where tons of current Notch bashers would go, "Effort? Well we're screwed." However, Notch openly apologized and admitted to his mistake. I think it's safe to say we will see Minecraft in its original state soon enough. And when it happens, you will all go back to loving Notch and bowing to him like some sort of God; awaiting what else he has in store for the future.
Go do something besides pointlessly bitch about a developer who makes honest mistakes.
Go do something besides pointlessly defending a lazy developer who makes hilariously massive game breaking bugs in an attempt to add some features into the game.
Stop using the beta argument. SMP is so messed that we cannot "beta" test in it.
I hate the grass so much I am not planning on making a new world for it. Weeds are a terrible idea.
I wouldn't say it's a terrible idea, just poorly executed.
No they are a terrible idea they make maps look ugly and the old way of getting seeds were a lot better.
They should be a lot more sparse than what they are. And a cool feature could have been added. Like, tilling that grass scares a chicken out of it, or drops some leather boots, or seeds, or a sapling, something other than what it does now.
