I see, quite heavy demands. Would make Minecraft quite unique if he pumped out so big updates every month. And I'm sure you knew that I meant the people in here like you.
He's not suggesting for him to do it all at once, just a few of those things would make it a lot better. Also why should he appreciate his work when he's doing a pretty bad job? (see 1.6 update)
Even if i earned a quarter what Notch earned, i would release updates weekly. Come on Notch.
I see, quite heavy demands. Would make Minecraft quite unique if he pumped out so big updates every month. And I'm sure you knew that I meant the people in here like you.
Why is Notch above criticism?
Why is Notch above criticism?
He's not some AAA developer, yet he's held to the same standards..... I mean have you guys tried Magicka when the options menu crashed the game? I don't recall NEARLY the outrage.
Does anyone still has the old files laying around?
I do, I knew that there were likely gonna be bugs in this so I didn't update. Just tell me what files to upload.
Why is Notch above criticism?
He isn't. But what I see now is that he's being bashed even though he's actually doing things to fix his mistakes which I find strange. But of course I shouldn't try to change you guys think about his actions as it's your opinions. I'm merely stating what I'm observing and what I find is strange.
I see, quite heavy demands. Would make Minecraft quite unique if he pumped out so big updates every month. And I'm sure you knew that I meant the people in here like you.
Where did I say I demanded these updates every month. You asked me what "Major" shit could be added, I provided a list. There is a lot more he could put in this game.
He's being bashed by a tiny percentage of people in his fan-base because an update like this shouldn't be fucking up so many things. It's good that he's fixing them as fast as he cant (he has to) but the fact that huge bugs are introduced with every update opens him up to criticism.
What the fuck? When I try to use tools that I crafted before the update, they cease to exist, it's a good thing I haven't started using diamonds yet.
He's not some AAA developer, yet he's held to the same standards..... I mean have you guys tried Magicka when the options menu crashed the game? So, what is broken in this update, guys?
He isn't. But what I see now is that he's being bashed even though he's actually doing things to fix his mistakes which I find strange.
Where did I say I demanded these updates every month. You asked me what "Major" shit could be added, I provided a list.
I don't know but you seemed to complain about long periods of time, so I thought 1 month would fit your description of an efficient game developer.
he takes forever to make the updates yet they are of rather poor quality.
is it too much to ask him to put an update through some basic alpha testing before making it live for everyone? even garry runs nightly builds for gmod (to iron out bugs before releasing full public, and even then theres still a few unexpected surprises)
But, Minecraft is still in its beta stage, it isn't finished yet. I think it's alright if he released some updates with perhaps bugs in them, but fixes them a day or two after.
But, Minecraft is still in its beta stage, it isn't finished yet. I think it's alright if he released some updates with perhaps bugs in them, but fixes them a day or two after.
that's not how a beta works, not when a million people play it. nightly builds are what should be done and PROPER TESTING before releasing an update. [editline]26th May 2011[/editline] and what other games have issues like this in beta?
why are you guys so pissed at notch this all will probably be fixed in _01 update
But, Minecraft is still in its beta stage, it isn't finished yet. I think it's alright if he released some updates with perhaps bugs in them, but fixes them a day or two after.
But minecraft really is not in a beta stage, it is still in alpha technically. If this was truely a beta, every update would be purely bug updates and there would have been a content freeze.
So, what is broken in this update, guys?
Everything. :saddowns:
why are you guys so pissed at notch this all will probably be fixed in _01 update
pretty sure _01 update already happened. and no competent developer would have released this update.
But, Minecraft is still in its beta stage, it isn't finished yet. I think it's alright if he released some updates with perhaps bugs in them, but fixes them a day or two after.
But let's please be honest with ourselves here. Do you think this will be better by release? Minecraft is obviously horribly coded or else this wouldn't be the case. Get realistic and stop trying to illegitimately protect Notch.
But, Minecraft is still in its beta stage, it isn't finished yet. I think it's alright if he released some updates with perhaps bugs in them, but fixes them a day or two after.
There's a problem when in 1 "big" update and 3 bug-fixing updates this many bugs are introduced. Player can see through blocks (?) (exposing underground caverns) Dropping any tool with "q" or when dying then picking it again and using it causes the tool to disappear. CPU issue fix is still failing, same loop as 1.6.3 Achievements may get bugged. [1] Updating of lighting due to torches and other player instigated sources seems to be even worse. Underground or otherwise enclosed minetrack corners can cause you to clip through wall and lose health. One Minecart may partially pass through another on a slope, when held by a non-activated booster track. [2] [3] All SMP portals go to the same location. Cave rotation fix is broken, caves can now rotate again. Fire does not show up on a map item. Fire sticks around much longer on blocks it can't burn. Web now acting like a solid block, player can pass through it, but he/she will get damaged. You are able to travel down through a closed Trapdoor/Hatch (Under certain circumstances) Shift-clicking an item inside of dispenser crashes the client. Entities in the area blocks are placed no longer move out of the way. All TNT-entities stay clientside after exploding, until reconnection. If the player saves and quits the world while standing next to a wall, the next time they load that world they will take suffocation damage. FPS limiter limits FPS to 41 instead of 40. The fix for the CPU load issue is not working, and still starves all other threads. Water will freeze and turn into ice very rapidly (maybe not a bug ?) "* Fixed ice so it regenerates regardless of whether it’s snowing or not" (from the 1.6 update list)[4] The item duplication bug was not actually fixed; items placed in a furnace can still be taken out of a furnace and duplicated infinitely by right-clicking (although it appears the newly duplicated item will not function). When using a furnace and placing items into it, as soon as it's activated all items minus 1 are ejected and must be placed back in the furnace in order to use it. Lighting is not always updated when digging new holes/tunnels, placing torches or setting blocks on fire (in both nether & normal world). Tall grass can grow on dirt with no grass on it. Shift-clicking something into a full chest from inventory or from chest into full inventory crashes the client. It is now impossible to row a boat in 1 block deep water. Sometimes (tested while in a boat on water, and when floating in water) while viewing a map the game will switch to a "saving chunks screen" then end on a black screen. When quitting game the "Saving Chunks" progress bar does not appear sometimes. When loading a world and standing in a cave less than 4 blocks high, the player gets some initial damage (at least the damage sound appears). Maps may cause crashes or instability on multiplayer servers. "Out of memory" error. Often appears after the "blocks don't disappear" bug. The following bugs only occur in new chunks generated in 1.6.2: Some chunks don't get dark at night (and vice versa; some chunks stay dark during the day). The textures don't load on some chunks (The blocks are present but with transparent textures). Some blocks don't disappear after being broken; it appears as if the block is still there, but can be passed through. When in a moving minecart, the player shows the walking animation. [5] Extreme lags on Linux and Windows multiplayer servers, the Minecraft process uses 100% of CPU as soon as the host is logged on. Others may log in via LAN, and wireless without lag. [7] The frames per second of the client dropped considerably for some users. [8] Items do not eject properly from any block, they will become buried if a block is placed over them. Must dig it back out to retrieve. Items received from a Furnace sometimes have no stack number, items from the furnace can also be duplicated by right clicking. Right clicking a Duplicated item from a furnace while the chest is open results in a crash. Hatches Close through you even if standing at same level. Tall Grass are off centered and can float off edges. When looking at a map the indicator at the player's coordinated does not always point the correct direction. For example, when facing due North, South, East or West the marker will sometimes point slightly clockwise from the direction it should. When pressing Q to drop a tool and re-collecting that tool, when you use it it'll break instantly. watercolor.png doesn't do anything. If you Shift-click to place items chest and the chest is full the screen will change to the "Saving Chunks" screen except there will be no loading bar and the text will be in a lighter shade of grey. The game will then crash and will flick to the error report before the screeen goes black and you cannot do anything. After death, any tools dropped will give an infinite number of clone tools to the player when he/she attempts to pick them up. Missing tooltips for Tall Grass and Dead Shrubs in Statistics menu. Tall Grass looks grey in Statistics menu (because it's color depends on Dirt's block grass color). Furnaces will sometimes eject all but the last item in every slot. Upon logging into a world, the player receives half a heart of damage possibly due to spawning partially in the floor or ceiling, if indoors An item bug was introduced where people could pickup items while their inventory is full. [9] The invisible fence fix is not working, so the fences that were invisible before 1.6 are still invisible
I don't know but you seemed to complain about long periods of time, so I thought 1 month would fit your description of an efficient game developer.
an 8 month wait since the last major update does not mean I demand updates every month
At least for content, eventually he will allow full source access for modders, so it should clean up a bit when they get some patches in.
But let's please be honest with ourselves here. Do you think this will be better by release? Minecraft is obviously horribly coded or else this wouldn't be the case. Get realistic and stop trying to illegitimately protect Notch.
No absolutely not, I expect Notch to continue doing this. It's not bothering me a lot really. I am realistic, you said it yourself "Minecraft is obviously horribly coded or else this wouldn't be the case.", makes it even more reasonable to be patient and wait for fixes before calling him lazy and stupid for the 10th time.
But, Minecraft is still in its beta stage, it isn't finished yet. I think it's alright if he released some updates with perhaps bugs in them, but fixes them a day or two after.
The problem is, even though it's a beta, he doesn't even bother to check for major bugs, he just releases the update and patches them when people bitch about them, sure it works but it's bloody annoying as those things should have been corrected internally. The other thing is, where the fuck is pistons.

Notch is finally going to let us submit patches hopefully. It will probably get better when this happens.
There's a problem when in 1 "big" update and 3 bug-fixing updates this many bugs are introduced. list
Wops I wasn't aware the new bugs list is almost as large as the fixed bugs list. I didn't experience that much problem when I tested it. But yes, this makes it more reasonable.

It was in #minecraft, so that might not be saying much but he did get people to try it out.
I agree with Swebonny. Also, did you guys miss that huge list of bugfixes? That probably was horribly tedious for him. Give him a break. If he wants to lounge around with some friends before he gets back to work, who gives a shit? He's an indie dev. Not the president of the United States.
