I really am excited about the random village generator. I like CQB combat, but sometimes, it gets old when you know that if you stand in X area, you can kill anyone who moves through Y area. I think that just tipped the balance for OA, in terms of me purchasing ARMA 2 or this. This, to me, is pretty much ARMA 3.
What I want to know is if the ACM or ALICE will spawn armed enemy civilians who attempt to locate and then ambush your team.
I really don't think there is CQB combat in ARMA.
If you get too close, every enemy and their mother comes to rape you. Plus the controls are a bit clunky for close quarters.

I think that has to do with the weapon collision model. If you want to turn around in the middle of a doorway your weapon will get stuck depending on its size. If only if they added automatic weapon lowering like in Vietcong...
Looks great. But not really digging the full price thing.
It's going to be $30 last I heard.

Rather than clearing a house, I just blow it up.
why? the best way is just shooting some M651 CS gas rounds into the building and choke the fuck out of the guys inside, then I toss a flash to annoy them even more

It speaks to ArmA that you can get some assholes out of a building in a bunch of different ways like that.
Level it with anything from sneaking up to it with satchels to helicopters or tanks and artillery, fill it with gas and other nonlethals, clear it room by room, watch from a distance and snipe anyone dumb enough to poke their heads out, etc.

I am now willing to sacrifice my firstborn for developers.

I like to just send down a paveway or two on a building. A-10s are always appreciated.
I like to apply tactical intrusion and then die from tactical-corner-camp.
1680x1050 with everything but AA and postprocessing on high with my 8800GT and I can run quite well. Well, it will never be as optimized as Mass Effect.
On an 8800GT?

This game makes no sense. On a HD4870 I get pretty piss-poor performance even with AA off.
a friend of mine play this on a 4870, he uses pretty much everything on high with 2x AA, but I forget what his view distance is although I do know its over 1500.
i only get 30-40 (50 in dense forests, only cause I can't really see those mountains) with 2300 view distance with all on very high, normal AA and normal shadows
[editline]02:28PM[/editline]
i can guarantee this map will run fucktons better simply cause of its vegetation.
if this is 30$ instant purchase, but if it's 60$ I don't know if I'll be buying.
it's 50 bucks, this isn't activision trash
and it will be DRM free after a few versions
(just like any other ArmA game probably)
Holy shit what am I doing wrong?
I'm running on this system:
Q6600 @ 2.4GHz
4GB RAM
Radeon 4870
Vista 64
Is my processor letting me down? I know it's a low-end quad core... but it's still reasonably fast isn't it? It being a quad-core and all. Am I completely wrong in thinking this?
I'm really confused by the statistics you have just given me. On this setup I'm running the game at 1680x1050, no AA with a mixture of medium and high settings with the default view distance. I can't recall my exact FPS but if I make a mission on Chernarus that's as small as around 3 or 4 fireteams per side, plus a handful of warfare buildings, I start to get slowdown. What's worse than the slow-down is the terrible popup. Foliage will flicker constantly as I move towards it and after zooming in on a vehicle or tree-line with a scope, it takes a second or two for the new detail models to load in. It's very irritating.
Any help?
I don't think ARMA utilizes all 4 cores...
God-dammit.
[editline]04:05PM[/editline]
Wait seriously? They released a very hardware intensive game in 2009 without Quad Core support? I thought I read something before release about it being Quad Core-enabled.
no no it does. The Q6600 is a slow quad core, the E8400 dual core would do better than it
So what do I miss if I don't have both Arma 2 and this expansion? Just the single-player campaign from the first one?

Well, you'll miss out on the maps it came with and the factions it came with.
@chesty try the new beta patch

runs awesome now
texture loading is done in the backround. So basically, you don't have to wait as long for the map to load...

Meaning systems with shitty video ram get that horrible texture popin like in unreal engine 3.
I seem to have sorted a few things out now. It's a long story but I'm happily at all settings high (not very high), 5000 view distance and no AA at 1680x1050. I'll do an actual frame-rate check soon.
I still feel quite dumb for getting Arma 1
no addons come out for ArmA anymore.. the entire community is now on ArmA 2
not surprising though

Not a bad thing really. Most of the ArmA 2 modders are the old ArmA modders, in fact a lot of ArmA 2 mods are just ported ArmA mods.
yeah like the ACE M4/M16s etc
