The only thing I don't like and don't understand is why they're using SCARs.
y not
The only thing I don't like and don't understand is why they're using SCARs.
Who cares? At least it isn't the standard M4 or M16, those are getting boring.
The only thing I don't like and don't understand is why they're using SCARs.
It's marketable to a wider audience.
I mean, I'm kind of glad to see something new but it really bothers me because this game has been extremely realistic and true to life and now BAM scars out of no where. The US Army still uses the basic M16 and M4 platforms. Boring, maybe but true-to-life.
the game is set 3 years after the south zagoria conflict, so 2011. Hey you never know..
Well if the guys using SCARs are rangers, then it should be OK. http://www.armytimes.com/news/2009/05/army_scar_051109w/
true also -snop- solved
i cant whate for this game
The M4 Carbine doesn't use 3 round burst
-snip-
The game takes place in the future. Like it or not, the US Army will and SHOULD replace the aging M16s with a more modern and flexible weapons system such as the SCAR. Marines are known for using the older weapons when other branches are ahead, so that explains the M16s and such. Arrowhead also takes place AFTER ArmA 2, so yeah. SCARs n shit dog [editline]03:34AM[/editline] and Talon, get your facts clear. There are 2 M4 variants The simple M4, which is Safety-Semi-3 Round burst. Then theres the M4A1, which is Safety-Semi-Auto. lrn2gunz lol
Marines are known for using the older weapons when other branches are ahead, so that explains the M16s and such.
They use the "older" stuff since currently they don't see the value of any newer infantry weapon offered by the various defense contractors. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Bohemia has already said that ARMA2/OA take place in a psudo-future. If you guys haven't noticed the US are also using UK made Land Rovers. Shit doesn't need to make sense, only needs to bring interesting game play mechanics. Real =/= Fun.
maybe they're competing with UKF or Project Reality lol

Real =/= Fun.
I don't know all that much about the story behind the war in this game, but from the trailers it seems that there is also a European force of some sort (One of the soldiers in the Forces trailer had a German flag on his shoulder, I'm guessing that the BLUFOR in this game is a combination of American and European forces, hence the name 'Alliance') This looks like it has some really nice additions to it and I'll definitely be getting it.
if they are using the landrover i hope they also include the jackal, apparently the british have been using a lot of them in afganistan cos they are so epic

How come when the AH-64D Apache flew into enemy territory and got shot at, the enemies didn't come after the helicopter when it flew away? Sounds dumb, if you ask me.
maybe cause you cannot catch a helicopter?
maybe they're competing with UKF or Project Reality lol
Everything beats UKF since their stuff sucks. Props to them for trying, though.
How come when the AH-64D Apache flew into enemy territory and got shot at, the enemies didn't come after the helicopter when it flew away? Sounds dumb, if you ask me.
AA weapons are either tacked on to ground vehicles or carried by infantry, neither of which have a snowball's chance in hell of catching an Apache, and it would take some time to get another helo or a plane in the air. If they waited for it to get in fairly close, they could probably have fired multiple missiles, but the AI doesn't like to do that in my experience.
the jackal/jackal 2 is easily the better than the standard hmmwv thats in arma 2, faster, better armament, better protection. the hmmwv is certain death if you go near enemy troops in a coop game/sp they defiantly need to add something with reasonable protection and a high level of offensive firepower
How come when the AH-64D Apache flew into enemy territory and got shot at, the enemies didn't come after the helicopter when it flew away? Sounds dumb, if you ask me.
Rate me late, but you can't catch a helicopter.

Maybe some old Mi8s or something, but not jets to intercept an Apache with. Considering in that video the Apache is going after "the ace of clubs" (or whatever card it was called), it makes it sound like a Taliban-esque force.
Fuck my duo-core, 2.6ghz, 3gb ram, and nvidia 6150. Piece of shit can't even run counter strike on high.
Fuck my duo-core, 2.6ghz, 3gb ram, and nvidia 6150. Piece of shit can't even run counter strike on high.
seems we have the same dilemma here.
In multiplayer, wouldn't it be possible in Domination or CTF or whatever for one team to simply build enough Apaches so that they can act as eyes/ears/hands in the sky, using the FLIR along with their weapons to report and destroy any attempted attack, especially with the new wide-open terrain? If they operated at their maximum distance, they could be safe from most AA attacks, and any counter-air-attacks could be brought down with friendly AA. This would create a practically impossible-to-breach wall of death. I propose that some form of equipment be created for soldiers that would somehow mask the IR signature of a single person for a limited time. This would allow a small group to open a hole in the hypothetical wall of steel long enough to get a good-sized force in through it. TL;DR: A counter to FLIR needs to be available.
