TL;DR: A counter to FLIR needs to be available.
There already exist smoke grenades, shells and generators than can mask in the infrared spectrum also. But in ArmA2 I'm not sure how the engine would support stuff like that.
TL;DR: A counter to FLIR needs to be available.
The helicopter doesn't fire it's cannon from 'far' away, it fires a missile. Right? The littlebird UAV is what lazes targets for the missiles. Throw a smoke. Same with vehicles, most armor have a smoke system.

Is it me or AIs in editors are extremely dumb?
Oh no. In this case real absolutely is equal to fun. There's no Arma without real.
I think by real he means weapons and vehicles, not realistic gameplay.
Wouldn't the ACR be a more logical choice since it is literally the non-advanced version of the XM8? Also, UAV Advanced Weaponry :gizz:
I think by real he means weapons and vehicles, not realistic gameplay.
Knowing it is a plausible scenario is part of the fun too.
Wouldn't the ACR be a more logical choice since it is literally the non-advanced version of the XM8? Also, UAV Advanced Weaponry :gizz:
No, the ACR takes concepts from a variety of other firearms. Besides, the SCAR has already been accepted into US SOF service. If the ACR is expected to be in the hands of US soldiers in the future, I'd see them by no earlier than 2014.
Damn. Well the ACR would be a tad overpowered anyway since it can be fitted to almost any type of ballistic firearm except LMG. [editline]12:34AM[/editline] Well it can, but it must be pre-fitted and cannot be fitted again.

[editline]12:34AM[/editline] Well it can, but it must be pre-fitted and cannot be fitted again.
The M113 armored personnel carrier can be adapted into countless roles to from its standard APC configuration to a dual-purpose anti-tank and air missile carrier. Is it "overpowered"?
No, but comparing vehicles to handheld firearms seems very broad.
I look here real quick and I here something about fairness and balance between factions so I'll just say this: Operation Flashpoint / ANY ArmA game are NOT made for balance. They are made for sheer realism. It's pretty obvious too, each faction is unique. There is no X type unit for each faction, they're all their own unique thing. The USMC has no VSS. The Russians don't have SPRs. The Russians have fully automatic main assault rifles, the USMC does not. In ArmA 1, the SLA had working camo, the US Army did not. bla bla, I could go on all day about this.
If you guys haven't noticed the US are also using UK made Land Rovers.
The landrovers are actually being used by Czech's judging by the camo pattern. The steering wheel is also on the wrong side, so it's definitely an export version. If OA is paralleling Afghanistan, it probably has lots of different countries, like ISAF forces. Actually BIS is a Czech company aswell, so I think we can be fairly certain those are Czechs.
epic =/= effective
Jackal's aren't used like HMMWV's. Jackals are really effective in their role, which is as really fast aggressive assaults, fire support and long range reconnaissance. They aren't used for patrolling and convoy protection unless there is no alternative. They have a huge amount of ground clearace and very high speed offroad. On another note, I don't see anything wrong with the US Army using SCARs in the near future, it isn't totally unfeasible that the SCAR would be adopted as the main frontline rifle a few years down the line.
But in particular to Arma 2's gameplay. You normally need numerous people to assume different roles when one person could have an ACr and be like "oop, I need to snipe now." *Attaches scope and longer barrel* "Oop, I need to assault now." *Slaps on short barrel and red dot sight* "Oop, I need long range combat now" *Slaps on medium barrel and 2x sight* To put a weapon like this into Arma 2 would indeed turn the tables. But knowing them, they'd probably not allow for customization and just have unchangeable variants. Plus, like what Tac error said, they will not be in service until at least 2014.
Such a modular weapon wouldn't turn the tables; it would just make logistics less of a problem.
Such a modular weapon wouldn't turn the tables; it would just make logistics less of a problem.
why wait for the supply lines to catch up when you can switch to 5.45x39 receivers and use those dead ruskie's AK mags?
because you should carry rucks filled to the fuckin top with M240 boxes you don't even use and over encumber your entire team [editline]07:06AM[/editline] I'm glad they are adding rucks to OA. They should work better than the ACE2 ones
In multiplayer, wouldn't it be possible in Domination or CTF or whatever for one team to simply build enough Apaches so that they can act as eyes/ears/hands in the sky, using the FLIR along with their weapons to report and destroy any attempted attack, especially with the new wide-open terrain? If they operated at their maximum distance, they could be safe from most AA attacks, and any counter-air-attacks could be brought down with friendly AA. This would create a practically impossible-to-breach wall of death.
That already happened in ArmA after few patches. Kamov got the possibility to fire missiles against air targets, so flying far away from manpads and shooting down every vehicle that moves was possible. Solution was to use small forces eguipped with AA missiles to get close enough and take out the kamovs. Having numerous amounts of small forces that flank and go from cover to cover was kind of hard for the kamov crew to engage.

Why are people complaining about ACE2 being impossible to install? I downloaded the Six Updater, ran it and it did basically everything for me. Its not hard to do people.

I say usual because it was based around addon folders... only it was more complicated than that.

Indeed. Addon sync is incredible.
I use Addon Sync
WHEN DID THIS HAPPEN caplsckoke
the rucks? saw them in a video..
