Psh, I just find it funny that they started playing and got sucked into this whole adventure thing seemingly by surprise. I mean, come on, there's no way that they knew about any of this beforehand! It's just really frigging epic.

Oh they knew, they just didn't know what to expect. Their reactions are very much natural and improvised.

Its all staged. Lewis is nice enough to talk back when i harass him, so i found out the truth.
All the other characters are played by people from their old wow guild and a few others

Of course, there has to be some sort of story, written by them. But some think that someone else writes the story and they sort of go with it, with only a foggy idea of what is gonna happen and they have genuine suprise. Some others think that they know all the surprises before they happen, having written the story themselves, so it's all staged and faked.
Well.... That fits. It also explains why they get distracted by small simple things, like just interacting with the "NPC" characters. They do a good job of going 'holy shit LOOK at THAT' though.

It was quite clear in some episode at the wall. They could've easely chased Israphel while he was alone, but decided it was a bad idea to do so. It was staged pretty badly.

They've made it clear on multiple occasions that there is a team that builds most of the structures on the server and prepares most of the scenarios. I would still argue that Simon and Lewis aren't totally aware of what will happen, given how daft they can be.
Regardless, calling it "fake" just doesn't seem right; they deserve more than that for all the effort which they have put into the series.

It seems that they are more steered in the right direction, possible by clues given by the background team. Some things are obviously kinda staged, but for the most part it seems like they have no idea what is going to happen, or what the characters will say. It seems it's more like they are being told what to do and what to look out for, without knowing what will happen upon doing what they're told.
