Entirely unrelated to the conversation at hand, How about we create a sort of "death jail" to make death actually something to avoid? When someone is killed, they respawn in the jail, and the admin can free them at the beginning of the next day. The only problem with this is that new users to the server will have to wait for the admin to set them free....
So, unless this process could be automated and "spawn" locations are different from "REspawn" locations, this actually sounds like a worse idea the more I type about it.
Sounds good. Maybe when notch adds scripting someone can just script it to send people to jail for a mincraft day. Then respawn them at the normal spawn after that. It could also keep track of people so if i left the server while in jail i would re-appear in jail if i rejoin. Only after i serve my time can i get let out. It would also be kwl if the jail was inside the city and we had people that had to feed the people in jail lol.

I gotta say, I wouldn't play on the server if that was implemented. If I die by falling into a pit of lava while mining, I don't want to have to wait in jail for a day, just sitting there staring at a wall.
But why would anyone want to be a person who stands by just to feed criminals?
I'll get a vote going on the building coordinators tomorrow when I wake up.
I think this would all be solved if there were beds that you could "sleep" in, which would save your spawn point as there(and maybe log you out, and slowly regenerate hearts when you sleep?). If there was an animation for this, wardens could easily see if the person had actually set their respawn point there. They could be let out after their sentence, and go set their spawn point somewhere else (by use of another bed)
Hey farmer guy, I have a stack of wood here and was wondering if you would like to trade for some of that pork.
What's that? you already have more than enough wood from clearing forests for your crop? But planks are all I have... If only there was some kind of universally accepted currency which I could trade him so he can buy what he needs...
Notch said he might add instruments (My suggestion :3:)
It would be cool to have those old-en Vuvuzella that you see when they declare war in movies (Ancient)
i think the idea of NPC's that ONLY accept gold is a great idea, also body guard NPC's give me the idea of becoming robin hood, riding a pig through the wastelands hunting the rich :black101:
also i rode a pig yesterday and i couldn't control it at all :frown: is this the same for everyone?
notch should add in them being controllable
and yay me i just gifted Evil-Art (irl friend) minecraft cause he thought it looked awesome :c00l:

if only there was something.. Hmm i have these goldish pound coins next to me, i can't trade them at the goverment for anything so they must just be worthless..
also look someones trying to pay me with these pathetic golden coins, what can i do with these.. trade them in at goverment ? no wait I COULD TRADE THESE WITH SOMEONE ELSE :buddy:
WHY AM I ALWAYS PAGE KING people need to post more to stop this happening :smithicide:
Yep, with that other system i would ragequit :D
I agree. Whenever I join a creative server that spawns you in one of those stupid obsidian jails that admins have to let you out of I just leave.
I can't imagine having to go through that every time I die.
If instruments are implemented, my dreams of being a traveling bard will be fulfilled.
Instruments would be cool if he implemented a kind of keyboard-piano. Like ASDFGHJKL were all notes. Kinda like key-bored.

You define notes in some kind of menu and when you press (and hold) right click you play them in tune?
The "old-en vuvzelas" are actually called french horns. :colbert:

What i'm talking about

French horn

I made a pretty efficient trading system based off of someone's previous idea. It carries blocks to the other person, and it seems that the only problem is organizing what you are going to trade and making sure they put something in. So we will probably have a man working at the station to make sure things go through smoothly. I'd do that if we got a small piece of what was being traded.
Oh, yeah, French horns are the curly ones.
Do you mean a Bugle?
..I can guarantee we didn't have vuvuzelas in the middle ages.
Ok, here's a pretty simple trade building.

People stand on either side of the viewport and drop their blocks. Through the viewport, both parties can see the number of blocks/items being dropped.

Oh look. I want those ten wood blocks. I can see that my trade partner dropped ten wood blocks and I dropped whatever he wanted. We agree on the trade and simultaneously run down the isles to get what we want.

The only problems are that you can't trade resources in larger numbers ('cause you wouldn't be able to see exactly how many blocks are being dropped) and there's nothing really to prevent a third party from running into the building and fucking up the deal by taking shit.
Of course a land claim would need to be placed by a committee member or someone to prevent blocks being destroyed or put up.

You could always just make two chambers with an open trade window, and there are switches in both rooms and the doors are only open when both switches are on. People chuck stuff through the window, and can only leave when both people are satisfied.

Trading station right here. You won't really be able to trade out in the fields safely, but definitely at something like this:

You throw your stuff in the pit and so does your trading partner.

You both pull the lever when satisfied, represented here by a leaf

The door leading into the opposite trading room opens, represented by wood here.

Both of you grab the stuff that was in the opposite trading pit.
Notch never said he isn't going to add a trading system, so why are you making these elaborate buildings when there will probably be a simple trade window anyway.
Well, I am back. Made a few things, will post them.
Stop going on about money and trading, we will work it out.
Money as itself has no value, it's paper. It has value because pepole accept it.
Also, Building coordinator is important, but we will need a few guys who will work with redstuff.
Redstuff Engineers? :v:
Monarchy anyone? :3

Punchopolis Garbage Incinarator!
Also, got my first stash of red stuff, gonna try out few things.
I like how there's a single cobblestone block over it just so the really stupid people can't fall in.
Made me chuckle.

I know I am going to angry replys from this but here we go.
This is a good idea but I think when we install the sewer system it will carry all the houses trash to one area where it will burn in lava.

And how will water carry the blocks into lava when the contact between the two creates stone.
HOW DO YOU ANSWER THAT MISTER NOT-SO-NERDY.
Hey guys, I'm totally in once multiplayer comes out, I'm getting pretty excited between this and Starcraft 2 and I would love to have a house in punchopolis

It is actually pretty easy. I can make one once I get done with my epic bridge.

Thanks to the AMAZING Dynamic! Water! in minecraft, which just stops randomly although the items still get pushed off.
