To keep the jobs thing simple: There should be a baron and guards. The guards don't have to be "on patrol" or anything, they're just there and if anyone needs help within the city, they're there to help.

Or how about we have no jobs and we just make FP city a place to spawn. Kinda like a safe area. Then we can leave the places out side the city walls a kill or be killed area.

No the city will look nice on the inside. It is just a spawn area. For those who are new to stay and play till they know what to do on the outside.

This is something I was thinking the city should be too, a safe spot for people and newbies to be around when night falls until they have a place of their own (if they so wish) and have the means to defend themself.

Flint + iron makes a tool that sets stuff on fire. Like you can set a wood house on fire and watch it burn. Or a tree. Or a mob.
