Converting wood to planks should be already done, it's a VERY easy process.
I like the idea someone suggested of a raid through the city, there should be options to only make certain ranked people able to create TNT and stronger (hacked) swords, the only rule being to only destroy player houses and the main statue or monument in the center of the city (or mayors house) this should be implimented after we have completely built the city and i think it will add a danger into survival as ~40 facepunchers should easily be able to destroy mobs and such whereas pig riding maniacs will be quite the challenge.
(i honestly don't think survival should be made easy in any way)

This works. If you went out and cut down trees then prepared them into planks it would be a usable service. As long as you harvest the wood it is a usable service.

I don't mind you writing, this should however probably go in the megathread.
You usually find diamonds near lava, so if you ever find lava you should be able to find diamonds either very near said lava or a few blocks into the walls around the area where the lava is.
