Sewers sounds like a really big waste of time and resources, we should just have a stream that leads to an ocean or a lake that people can drop unwanted blocks in.
Why? Then all our crap will end up in the ocean and pollute the place. If we have a sewer system we will have a stream that leads to lava that will destroy our useless crap.

I reckon whe should start it off by just trading resources. Eventually as resources become harder to acquire players will start charging more for there resources. Eventually rare resources will be used as a currency for things like wood ect.. thats what i think. Anyway, its looking awsome. Notch has just done some more work and he says open beta will be next week some time. Can't wait. Also do i need to get a permit or anything to join the city or can i just come in and start helping people do stuff. (Of course i won't just start doing stuff without asking people.)
FFFF- i wish i could get this.
As gold is as weak as wood but harder to find I would say 25 coal = 1 iron 20/15 iron = 1 gold 10 gold = 1 diamond But didn't notch say that he was going to add currency.
Notch said that he likes coins and shiny things in games. That's pretty much "I'm going to add coins into SMP, maybe not now, but probably will eventually."
I believe Notch will add currency soon enough. But like stinkfire said. A set trade pattern isn't necessary as trade will balance out and people will sell things how ever they want.
Just trading for goods and services with each other without currency sounds more fun to me.
Exactly
As gold is as weak as wood but harder to find I would say 25 coal = 1 iron 20/15 iron = 1 gold 10 gold = 1 diamond But didn't notch say that he was going to add currency. [editline]12:11AM[/editline] If someone felt like being a scavenger it would be cool to find where this 'waste' comes out and be like "Oh snap! A diamond pickaxe!"
I was trying to keep the normal ratio of for every 100 coal there is always 1 diamond. Also just because gold is weak does not mean it is crap and should degraded in value. People will sometimes want to build thing out of gold and not make things like armor and stuff. Also who would throw a diamond pickaxe down the stream?
Currency idea. So we use coal, iron, gold, and diamond as currency. Now we should treat the minerals as like the US money system. Which is you have 1 penny and 100 pennys equals 1 doller and so on. Now lets make a list. 25 coal = 1 iron 25 iron = 1 gold 25 gold = 1 diamond Get it yet? Let me also give an example. Lets say a person has around 100 bread to sell you. All the bread together cost 3 diamond. You only have 1 diamond but a lot of other minerals. So you could pay the man 1 diamond and 50 gold. I hope this explains everything. If you have question and or comments please do reply.
coal is too valuable and diamonds are too rare, notch has said he'll add coins anyways so that gold has some use.
coal is too valuable and diamonds are too rare, notch has said he'll add coins anyways so that gold has some use.
Lol coal. I can go out and mine 100 of them in 1 day. They are not THAT valuable.
Lol coal. I can go out and mine 100 of them in 1 day. They are not THAT valuable.
Well, coal has two very necessary uses. There is plenty of it yes, but most of it is going to be used in furnaces or for torches.
Lol coal. I can go out and mine 100 of them in 1 day. They are not THAT valuable.
They are very valuable, just not rare. It's the only ore necessary for basic building.
Well, coal has two very necessary uses. There is plenty of it yes, but most of it is going to be used in furnaces or for torches.
We should let the mines worry about that.
Well, coal has two very necessary uses. There is plenty of it yes, but most of it is going to be used in furnaces or for torches.
you can use sticks in furnaces, which are renewable
you can use sticks in furnaces, which are renewable
Yeah, I don't think people are going to use that though when they can use coal.
We should let the mines worry about that.
If we are around 20 people mining we will gain a redicolous amount of resources Each hour is about 20 hours worth of mining.
Yeah, I don't think people are going to use that though when they can use coal.
u need to think about Minecraft Sustainability. plant trees after you cut them down, eat wheat, don't kill pigs, green minecraft
For shading you could use this: http://www.facepunch.com/showpost.php?p=23499087&postcount=162
How would I implement it over the top? Or do I do it manually Page king. Fun fact: Nearly all mob pain sounds are the same but in different pitchs! ... So i'm told.
u need to think about Minecraft Sustainability. plant trees after you cut them down, eat wheat, don't kill pigs, green minecraft
This man speaks the truth. We don't want to be living in a smog filled city with tons of pollution. Think about our children. Lol.
We should let the mines worry about that.
If notch hasn't got a currency in the game by the time SMP is out we can use Snowballs like coins if its a dry map.
Notch should implement a polution system, so we can make Facepunchopolis look like what Britain did when people discovered they could use coal to heat their homes.
I actually made a currency thing that has the best you know change. Its based on in game values, and how rare things are. 1 Diamond = 2 Golds 5 Iron =25 Iron = 50 Coal 1 Gold = 10 Iron = 20 Coal 1 Iron = 2 Coal But that might just be too complicated to be a currency.
I say we use mob resources as currency. Wool is nigh-useless as of late, so we could use it for bartering. It also means that we won't run out of money any time soon, since mobs respawn. Of course, evil mob resources will be worth more. The system will go like this: Wool>Leather>Pork>Feathers>Silk>Gunpowder. Arrows will be worthless, as they can be used for other, more important purposes.
Seriously! No. No currency unless Notch implements one. Trading for what you want/need is much easier and effective.
We should have some kinda cheap thing (hopefully some cheap-ass metal, like tin, comes out so we could smelt it into coins) and back it up with a Grand Treasury, filled with diamond blocks. This would stop money from having a subjective value, because at any point, someone could just trade in 100 (or so) tin coins for 1 diamond. This is how real economies work, and has stopped money from completely losing it's value for several hundred years in many countries.
I'd prefer to use metals and ores as currency until/unless Markus adds coins. The ratio of coal : iron : gold : diamond is 100 : 25 : 5 : 2 : 1 when the map generates, so why not just use that as the values for the currency? Or rather, 100/Rarity would be the monetary value, so coal, iron, gold and diamonds would have 1 : 4 : 50 : 100 value respectively. Unsmelted ores would cost the same as the smelted ores, minus the price of coal (does not apply to diamond or coal) The cost of other materials should also be determined on their rarity, demand, usefulness and ease of collection. Redstone, for example would probably be around 30 - 40 in value, as it is fairly common, in high demand for people who want to make complex logic contraptions, is extremely useful and is difficult to obtain. Dirt would be less than one, as it is literally everywhere, in very low demand, completely useless and easy as fuck to get (unless someone needs it en masse for some reason). The cost of crafted weapons should be the sum of their ingredients, plus some obligatory number the shopkeeper decides depending on what profit he wants to make. I really do hope Markus adds more metals, such as tin, copper and silver. You could smelt alloys, use copper to make light bulbs and actual electricity rather than some dumb red glowing powder crap, make bronze weapons (a hell of a lot stronger than iron), hell, if more gemstones were added people could make golden crowns with rubies inset! God damn we need some kind of community crafting recipe project (with community moderators, of course, to stop dumb things being added).
That would work, but we still need some backing. What if, for example, a couple of business owners decide that gold is useless (it is in many ways). If they stop accepting gold coins, and (for example) many people have their wealth in gold, then OTHER business owners will have to as well (they need to buy things, too). People could lose a great majority of their wealth before people fully understood what was happening. If we kept a universally valuable resource (iron, or diamond) in a large reserve, then we could keep inflation/deflation/any unwanted currency fluctuations from occuring, because we could just say "No matter what, gold is worth x iron at the treasury and diamond is worth y blablabla".
Seriously! No. No currency unless Notch implements one. Trading for what you want/need is much easier and effective.
Notch stated there will be currency, but (which is just a very stupid move) will not add any trading mechanics. As in you have to drop things at the same time to trade. Which makes it very risky.
