lol the minecraft thread is all like "what a good competition" and over here you're all "OMFG VALVE MUST WIN FUCK MOJANG"
No. It's an insignificant poll on a shitty forum. Even if valve won I wouldn't give a shit. It's the principle.
Didn't Valve introduce Steam to Mac last year?
Minecraft is cross platform in their defense.
Steam on mac is an achievement though..it really is. That might be the only reason why i'd vote for Valve.
It's the combination of low res art, blocks and the endless possibilities while still remaining fairly simple.

And it really is original. There's nothing like it.
Minecraft fanboy spotted.

Good competition? Mojang wiped the floor with Nintendo. Explain to me in the least how that is good?

It may be original, but did Mojang create the #1 digital game distribution software, countless games, put said games on sales at least a handful of times a year, and donate to the Japanese disaster relief? No.
I'm annoyed at Valve. They've driven TF2 to the ground. They rushed L4D2. They've been devolping EP3 for far too long. I'm sure that Portal 2 will restore my faith in them.
On the other hand, Mojang currentlt has a really buggy product with a lack of support. I'm not using the "only one game" argument because it lacks substance. Quality over quantity, and Minecraft is just as fun as Valve games.
So really I'm just too upset with both of them right now to vote for either.

hurr durr Infiniminer
Minecraft took ALOT of inspiration from infiniminer. I wouldn't call it original.
God, if this was an actual reputable website, I'd feel bad for Valve, losing to a developer that has only one game out and it's not even finished.

Again, people are voting for the games, not the developer. Nintendo is possibly the biggest and most innovative developer out there, but they don't make games for PC so they're out.
It's not like this "tournament" has a shred of credibility anyways. "Sponsored by alienware"
Isn't Steam still advertising Alienware?

Nintendo is just rehashing Mario and making gimmicky game systems these days.

Doesn't have to be a PC developer.

The past few years yeah, but remember they have been around for 25 years.

He meant that people chose Mojang due to them being PC gamers rather than console gamers, probably never even hearing of Nintendo.
The past few years yeah, but remember they have been around for 25 years.
But it's an annual poll so I like to think of it in terms of how they were this year.

...did I say that? What I meant was that people are voting for the games, and since this forum is 99% PC gamers I doubt any of them would vote for a console exclusive developer.
I just think it's funny how a dev team with a game that's not even out yet roasted the competition. Not that it matters since it's just a shitty poll on the internet.
AH. Comments on this site.
OT: I'm voting Mojang. Sure, 2011 looks good for Valve, but 2010 was one of their worst years. They released no new games, and their TF2 updates ranged from mediocre (Shogun update) to just plain bad (Someone please post that VGCats comic about the crates...), whereas Mojang is the opposite: sure Minecraft is amazing, but next year doesn't seem as good for Mojang. But this is about 2010, the year Minecreaft came out. So at least this year, Mojang has my vote.
Wasn't the shogun update like 3 weeks ago? I also wouldn't call the engineer, polycount, and christmas updates mediocre.

People are mostly voting for Mojang because-
A. They want to piss everyone off by having Valve AND Nintendo lose to Mojang.
or B. They actually think Mojang is better because of their opinions/lack of knowledge
I swear to god if Mojang defeats Valve I will never play Minecraft again.
Mojang (Read: NOTCH) made a nice Java game and got lucky with a great concept and good support, but trying to say that a fat swede with a single Java game to his name topples Valve, the company that revolutionized digital content distribution, introduced series like Half Life and Portal, and made timeless classics (Like Half Life and Portal :v:), along with massively successful multiplayer games and a flexible and lenient engine is just fucking pathetic.

I liked the tf2 updates, getting hats for cheap using trading was a great idea.

You're ignoring the point because of semantics. A large chunk of what Minecraft is today came out in 2010.
Someone who has free time should bring my post to other forums, preferably half-life or cs centered ones. We need to defeat this casual gamers army.
You're ignoring the point because of semantics.
Not only did he get the date released wrong, he judged valve because "they didn't release any new games". I can tell you what they did in 2010, the made Steam compatible for the Mac, which was a pretty big thing for people having to use Boot Camp to run steam all the time.
