One thing i liked was the arkid hunter gametype...man playing as a bug and going on a rampage was fun
Too bad they didn't even put that in Lost Planet 2, i mean seriously capcom, you add every other gametype BUT the most popular one.
$10 says they're going to add it as DLC.
This game is fucking AWESOME! I love it. A lot. Add me on PSN to play some co-op.
I thought so too until i cleared the story at least 5 times and my friends started to get bored of the game.
Besides, i already had a max level character so there was not much to do besides getting all the other characters to max just for some lame achievements.
It has been released for PC. Been playing it for two days, and I'm having lots of fun. I was unsure about it at first, but then I said what the heck I loved LP1 so why not, and bought it. It has most of the flaws LP1 had, but damn do I not care about those. The game is fun and it's awesome, I couldn't care less if the mechanics aren't along with what the press sees as "modern", because it's fun.
Also the weapons and equipment just feel awesome. Explosions feel powerful, VSs feel heavy and powerful, chainguns/miniguns are some of the best I have seen in a game (when you get a VS with two of those and fire them at the same time you just feel like screaming "Dakka!") and things have a great sense of scale (which lacks in a lot of games
I liked LP1 though (which a lot of people hated), so I guess I was bound to like LP2.
Explosions feel powerful even though they're not.
"Oh hey I just totally shot next to your feet with a cannon, that's ok you can stumble if you want it's not like I was trying to kill you."
I didn't like it. It just feels really boring and slow, and hardly any polish. The first was better.

Can't talk for cannons, but they definitely upped the area of effect compared to LP1 for rockets. It still has a small damage area compared to the explosion (also because the explosion is pretty huge), but that's because they'd be WMDs if they had a damage area proportional to the explosion.
I wholeheartedly love this game, will finish the campaign today. Sure is difficult though.
Finished the campaign yesterday, going to replay it on Hard now. Also the gunsword sucks at range, the only thing it's good for is that sword which is like the tactical knife in MW2, on steroids.

And combining with Melee Attack ability makes it even better at Melee.
Finished this on Hard on the PC and currently playing through Extreme mode with my brother, really loved this game just like the first one. The only thing I didn't like much was the leveling and credits system which requires a lot of grinding, though the minor annoyances didn't outweigh the amount of fun and awesomeness of the action.
All of the boss fights were fun especially Red Eye and Gordiant, along with the Over-G. Also Frank West and Albert Wesker & his revolver is unlockable on the PC version as well even without pre-ordering.

Extreme mode? Is it just harder, or does something else change? Also I found normal to be way too easy (I died quite a lot, but never got close to depleting the battle gauge) as lone wolf (with 3 AIs). Do the difficulties change only stats (damage, HP etc.), or does it change type of enemies and number of them?
Also playing as Wesker now, but running forward and dying as him just feels wrong, so I have to uphold his badassness (AKA never die, or at least VERY rarely). Alos had to change quite a few of the emotes, Wesker doing the bunny ears feels wrong man.

Well haven't really closely compared Normal Hard and Extreme but so far I noticed that there's a very low amount of default ammo and T-ENG, as well as lack of weapon pickups and ammo, there were some removal of VSs spots or strong VSs, also noticed the removal of a lot of T-ENG generators. There seems to be also a tons more akrids and enemy soldiers, also they have more VSs, or rather more powerful VSs than usual.
There are lot of badass emotes to fit with Frank and Wesker, and there's also a golden revolver & tons of unique weapons after you unlock most on the slot machine.

Yeah this game is full of stuff to unlock, most of which you don't even know you're about to unlock (adding that feeling of older games that I love).
Also if this was moddable I'd jizz my pants. Starship Troopers map with lots of Dakka and Akrids anyone?

Indeed, there are even some secret areas and actions you can do or accidentally get and suddenly unlock something.
Hopefully modding can be figured out since people managed to mod RE5 & other Capcom games recently too, man a fort defense Starship Troopers style with tons of Dakka and Akrids would be orgasmic.

Oh yeah.
Also the part in Ep.1 where you have to [sp]destroy the mine[/sp] is a pain in the ass on Hard, seriously there where like 15 enemies and 2 VSs waiting for me to pop my head out of cover, at which point they all started shooting and made so much chaos I could barely see what was going on. Oh and I had the gunsword which sucks, so I had to charge headfirst with the melee, luckily the sword part of the gunsword is pretty damn good, takes down VSs and fucks shit up.

A fort with 2 railway cannons, 4 mainland battleship cannons and 10 turrets (which various stuff on them, but mostly lots of chainguns) overlooking a huge plain area would be awesome. OF course that would require a titanic amount of Akrids to pose a challenge, but that's the point.

Wish that level was longer, even if it was only a tutorial, could had been an awesome average length level after learning the basics and refresh the players while fighting on familiar environments.
Yeah that part was one of the most frustrating parts in the game along with [sp]trying to defend the data posts after it. Especially since I played this on solo at first, had about only 1000 BG left.[/sp] Gun sword was very useful on Episode 6 for me, killed off a lot of the Akrids faster and managed to save up a lot of BG.
Desert or snow environment would be awesome along with this, maybe a few AI pre-set soldiers aside from the human players too trying to defend the fort to really make an intense defense level, hordes of Akrid and maybe 1-3 Akrid bosses after a certain amount of waves.
I keep getting "Game version incompatible, update required" (or something along those lines) when I try to find a match online. That or it doesn't find anything.
Fucking GFWL.

Yeah got this yesterday too, apparently there's a mess-up on the update of the Steam and the retail versions of the game which caused an inconsistency on both sides. http://forums.gamesforwindows.com/p/15222/131461.aspx
Yet another reason not to buy on Steam... bugged updates, *** support and now even incompatible versions?

That's what you get from steam I guess.

since apparenly securom is the worst thing ever to steam fagboys.
Must. Resist. Correcting. Them.

Good to see Capcom has acknowledged the problem though, hopefully they'll patch it soon.
This game is awesome. Playing co-op with 3 mates and AI/Random person is fun.
Really loved the [sp] level with the big ass train gun and working together to destroy the Dune ripoff worm[/sp]
So there's stun on all weapons online? Are they serious? You'd expect them to remove it, but no they left it there.
So yeah if some guy comes up to me and happens to fire the first shot with his machine gun, I can't return fire in any way (can't shoot nor throw grenades) as long as he keeps hitting me (which, out in the open, is near inevitable). Sounds like a great idea Capcom.
So I just forwarded the ports used for LP1 and I instantly found a match with 7 other players (compared to the wait of 10 minutes to find 2 guys I had to deal with before).
Also damn this game has loads of weapons, nearly all grenades have 3 variants, a lot of weapons do too and there is a shitload of hidden stuff (like the nuke in MP).
Omg my late nerve was twitching like shit but I can't rate it late because it's from the past :C I'm so torn appart
I'll update the OP tomorrow. The thread isn't very active but that doesn't change the fact that the OP is out-dated and loads of shit has changed. Also title change.
[editline]23rd October 2010[/editline]
Also some cool shit like the super VS (by combining 2 VSs) and the nuke:

Don't need no black materia when you have Ouroboros.
If you thought the nuke was scary...
This game has so much strange and awesome shit hidden that I'm going crazy trying to remember it all.
Everyone should've figured out about the VS merge by now, same with the nuke.
Everyone should've figured out about the VS merge by now, same with the nuke.
Depends if they player the console version. The merge would be obvious (you see the boss in the campaign do it, why not you?), but this being a videogame you expect to not be able to do the same things as the enemy.

How would it depend if they play the console version?
How would it depend if they play the console version?
Because to find the nuke and support weapons you'll need to play quite a bit (or you might be lucky and find out about them during your first match), the PC version hasn't been out for long and it's hard to find players (mostly thanks to the bug that doesn't let Steam players play with other versions). If you've played it on the console chances are you have played loads of matches during this year or so that it was released.
Also the "hidden shit" I was mostly referring to the various unlocks (which aren't pointed out most of the time, like reaching level 70 with NEVEC unlocks that radar-thing) and the support weapons (like 2 gunblade supporters giving you the huge energy sword).
Is the multiplayer still active?
Sounds awesome.

Can't speak for consoles (but I think so), but for PC yes (though there is a bug preventing you to play with other versions, like between steam and retail, which is splitting up the players). Also I forwarded the ports LP1 on PC used and I found immediately a 7 player match (compared to waiting 5 minutes to find one guy before), so that seems to help (though it could be just luck).
