I found it really awesome, I don't know what game you played.
It might be shit, but it's a huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge step in the right direction by the looks of it.
They need to megaman 9 it. Go back to 8bit graphics, with new gameplay.
8 bit? You mean 16 bit, surely. That's what the original Sonics were :downs:

I'm not talking about the thread.

Though the 16 bit ones are much better.
Anyway, I've really enjoyed this game so far. It has a LOT of niggling problems though such as that little roll move you can do that seems to occur seemingly at random and fling me off the sides of things into infinite drops, the annoying homing attack system that will sometimes lock onto something and throw me into it when I don't want it to, the shitty level design in some areas (Lost Labyrinth is pretty much the worst thing ever.)
But all-in-all it's not a TERRIBLE game, it's still eons ahead of any other Sonic game since Sonic CD.

Yes I know there are 8-bit games too but why would you go back to 8-bit for Sonic when his best games were 16-bit? I can see what he's getting at but still. Also, here's why they didn't go back to 16-bit:
The decision to create the game using a 2.5D graphical style was made after considering old Sonic fans' possible reactions to the game versus those of younger players:
“ This is sort of recognition that Sonic is a brand that has a wide variety of fans in a wide variety of age groups. We have a fan base that's very young, and they want a little more of a Loony Tunes-ish [sic] kind of gameplay ... But we also have an older fan base who liked Sonic as he was in the Genesis days. And if we want to keep that fan base happy, we should provide games that cater to them as well. So it's more of a splitting a little bit of the brand. ”
—Ken Balough of Sega
“ A friend of mine who's a prominent executive at a major hardware company sat down with his kids to play Mega Man 9, as a Mega Man fan. He's probably about, say, 45 years old, and his kids just didn't get it – they didn't understand. They just looked at the graphics and instantly tuned out. Whereas he was just overjoyed and in little nerd heaven.
What most people seem to forget is that Sonic, while it holds a nostalgic appeal for older players, is above all else a game for Children. They make games that they think will appeal to the kiddies and if a change needs to be made to make it appeal to a younger audience then it will be. You all know what the children of today are like, if a game looks old then it will be dismissed as "gay." Older Sonic fans just need to accept that they are no longer Sega's target audience for the Sonic series.

People do not say the same thing about Mario, whose bare gameplay mechanics STILL consist of jump-on-things-get-coins-fuck-bitches. :colbert:
Mario and Sonic are exactly alike in that their target audience has not changed over the years they have existed, and Mario has existed FAR longer, and yet somehow people don't call Nintendo's games gay or retarded. Everyone is going to tell me "Oh look at Super Mario Galaxy or other Mario game with the same basic plot elements, look at all the cool gameplay mechanics and graphics and stuff!" BULLSHIT, Sonic brought all of that to the table too and all people did was whine, whine, whine about how cool Sonic used to be.
People don't hold Sonic in high regard like they do Mario because he's become a joke, the epitome of :bandwagon:ing. Sonic is starting to get up there with Duke Nukem: Forever as games-people-ridicule-even-though-they-know-nothing-about-them. Sega tried returning to the basic gameplay mechanics and people still didn't even like that. Sonic 4 was EXACTLY what the fandom wanted from them, and they still hated it for god knows what reason. People will have their opinions, but it doesn't make any sense to hate something even though it gave you EXACTLY WHAT YOU ASKED FOR.
Last time I checked Sonic 1 was faster. YOU CAN'T MAKE A GAME ABOUT BEING FAST IF YOU HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT HITTING WALLS AND ENEMIES EVERY 5 SECONDS.
Have you actually played the Genesis games? They weren't all holding down the right button and jumping occasioanlly.

Sonic Advance 2 was utterly horrid. I'd rather play Sonic '06 than that tripe.
I think Sega went wrong in that they pushed the whole "Sonic is fast" thing too hard. Sonic is a solid platformer, whether you want to admit it or not, and if Sega had stopped pushing "Sonic is fast" and started pushing "Sonic is a damn awesome platforming game", they wouldn't be where they are today, because all the fans want now is speed speed speed, and that does not make a complete game if all you're doing is running around.
The game seemed decent to me. Don't know if I'll get the full version yet.
I'm interested to see what they do with super sonic, if he's got his own stage or what. Stuck on the 6th stage, bumpers are giving me a damn nightmare
actually they did
Care to explain? I don't remember the entire last half of the battle being in the original :v:
From a perspective of someone whose never really been a sonic fan, I think that the franchise's reputation has been damaged to a point where people are going to be quick to call out anything they dislike in any new sonic games regardless of how they turned out. It would take something really, really fantastic to restore sonic's reputation.

If the achievements are anything to go by you can play every level as Super Sonic. I'm so close to unlocking him but I just keep getting raped when I get to the 7th Special Zone.

Confirmed, you can transform into Super Sonic on any level by pressing X when you have 50 rings.
I liked SA1 a bit and loved SA2 back in the gamecube days. I know a lot of people don't like it but still I think it was a pretty good game.
Sonic Adventure 2 is an amazing game.
Then the Knuckles stages happen. Horrible music, horrible premise, horrible everything.
Just played the trial, loved it, bought it, still love it. Music is awesome. Graphics are great (don't like his jogging animation, looks like he is sliding, but I'm not spergin' so I'll live). Levels are perfect, just like Sonic 1 and 2.
Overall, if you like the originals (not just the thought of the originals that you probably never played for more than 10 minutes, if at all, like some of you kids with your animus and air blenders and what not), then you will like this. If you played the originals in their heyday, then this is pretty much identical, with updated graphics.
Same sonic exploration with bursts of speeds and loops (but usually, if you go the speed route, you miss out on heaps of bonuses sitting on top of the loops and stuff).
Tops :)
Wow, what the fuck. I was at least expecting some sort of second ending if you beat the game with all seven Chaos Emeralds but instead you just get Sonic waggling his damn finger at you rather than Robotnik laughing.
Fffff.

May I introduce to you the 16 Bit Sonic - the one people have been pining for. The one where the game was more important than the story.
I don't care about the story but in the other Sonics you at least got a SLIGHTLY altered ending.
Sonic Adventure 2 Battle and Sonic Dx were likes 2 of my favorite games. Then Sonic Heroooooooos was shit.
K...Let's square up this insanity...
I've played each of the original Sonic games and liked all but Sonic 2 for game gear. I liked the new ones even Sonic 06 and the Werehog parts of Unleashed. Since I've played Sonic Advance 3 with the Sonic and Cream Team I know how it would be with a decent homing attack. Pretty sure it was in Sonic Advance 1 and 2 as well. Now in a few days when I play Sonic 4 I highly doubt I'm going to hate it. It surely looks like the old games which I liked.
I don't give a damn about his eye color or any of the other non classic elements. For every complaint about the games Sega seems to have tried to make up for it in one game or another. Want all speed? Play Sonic Rush or The day time Unleashed. Want platforming? Play Sonic Adventure or Sonic Advance. Want Both? Try Sonic Heroes..you get the point.
Even the old games had their flaws. Sega can't, in fact no one can make a game that appeals to everyone at all times. The old games were slow like this one is. All I'm seeing of Sonic 4 is what a lot of the 'fans' wanted.
If you really want to bring Mario into this, Super Mario 64 sucked. About all of the rest were decent. All of the games in the Mario and Sonic series are aimed at kids anyhow and there's a big adult population complaining that they suck. These people that say they suck buy the games anyways. The best thing you can do if you hate any game is not buy it or talk about it. People will buy games that other people say sucks.
Sonic Heroes was pretty damn awesome.
Sonic's homing attack really ruined it for me. Along with the lack of momentum in-game.
If you expect a Sonic game as good as Sonic 2, you'll always be disappointed.
I don't understand those that whine about the homing attack, in older sonic games when you ran up a halfpipe hill sonic would stay comically suspended in the same spot as he rose and fell, but with the homing attack it causes him to launch forward.
Also if you do two homing's in a row sonic goes insanely fast and his speed is actually about as fast as if he had the running shoes.
Wish they made a port of Sonic Adventure 2 (and maybe 1?) for PS3 and 360. With improved graphics and stuff.
That`s really all I want.
sonic adventure 1 is out on PSN IIRC.
