Maybe you start off with really crappy cameras, and slowly progress and work your way up to more advanced cameras? Like for example, you start off with a camera phone, then you find like, a digital camera, a HD camera (all strapped to your hat) and then to a ear-camera :o
OH or maybe there are no guns, but they get stunned by the flashes from cameras :L
Dunno, throwing ideas out there. Food for thought.
Blargh more ideas:
How about the only way you can see is through a camera strapped to your hat. The crappy cameras means a crappier image, but then as you work up to more advanced cameras, like digital ones, you can get a digital hud, and maybe the ear camera could have an advanced data targeting/recognition/zoom feature.

Skills for kills, Agent. Skills for kills.
Only way i'd see a game of this type being made is via indie developers, at least currently. Tad bit experimental even if all the elements have been done before.
Also, about the I Am Legend thing, I think they were talking about the movie but while other things 'sum it up', it's kind of off. The book has vampires, the movie has super-human people that basically primitive thinkers.

I like the ideas. Keep em' coming
I think the idea to be defenceless in a zombie invasion is a pretty fucking dumb idea.

I think the idea to be attacking zombies in a zombie invasion is a pretty fucking dumb idea.
The idea of actually trying to AVOID zombies and having a camera whilst you do so would be a pretty badass game. Why in gods name would you purposely go out and try to fight the zombies, if anything your defense should be something small/simple that you can use until you get to another safe area.
Walking tanks are basically idiots who want to try and take out the invasion alone, why not have people who try and record it and hide at the same time?
how about abandon the camera idea because that would get annoying after a while, maybe have a camera and take pictures and stuff, sorta like dead rising but have it so it actually has importance to the game (don't know how though) make it first person obviously but make it so weapons are far and scarce so there is more running, barricading, hiding and screaming like a bitch than being top shit rambo. oh by the way a large fallout 3 typish map would be awesome.
just my two cents

Fatal Frame...!
I'd like to see some of that gameplay in this.
In dark rooms, your camera should have night vision.
I don't like this camera idea at all.
This could be like a normal FPS, except weapons are rare to find, and ammunition is obviously very limited (unless you find a gun store).
You'll have to find food, and you'll need to sleep once in a while.
Due to limited weapons/ammunition, you should only use them when it's absolutely needed. You can also use knives/sticks/swords and so on.
You'll need to barricade yourself inside a house if you want to suvive the night.
Vehicles are scattered around the town, many are broken or on fire. But some have the car keys left in. Sadly, fuel doesn't last forever, and you'll have to find fuel stations.
You'll also need food. You can NOT eat zombified flesh.
You'll need to find something like a grocery store, or raid peoples refridgerators.
Of course, this should be open world. Or even better, a randomly generated city.
Oh, and multiplayer support, because that'd make it even more fun.
There was a zombie FPS game in the making with proceduraly generated city you can roam freelly. Dunno if its still in the making.

(dont know how to post images so check the links)
Here is the demo: http://www.sinistersystems.com/omarsoo/release/ooo3d_prot.zip
R - change level / city section
Cursor - move & strafe
Mouse - view
Right mouse button - binoculars
F - toggle fog
Hm, you could take Stalker, remove all anomalies and not-zombie mutants, limit the normal people to a small area (like that military safehouse in CoP), make guns very rare, and tada, almost what you want.
Expect not, and I am retarded
It's a zombie game what needs to make sense? The guy could be a news reporter or some shit and reporting on the outbreak. The world isn't completely taken over by zombies, people like being informed. Does that make enough sense?
People like to not die. Therefore they rather go defend themselves instead of filming everything, especially if you're a journalist who have those big cameras.
Maybe it'd be different if you were in a group of 5 heavily armed men, but then I don't really see what you're supposed to do besides filming.
suuuuuuuupppppeeeeerrrrrr generic.
If there was a game like that that was done right, I would pay 100$ for it. If it's generic doesn't mean it's not fun.
Everyone has their own idea of a zombie survival game, but this idea is something I haven't seen before.
Would actually be pretty good.

Instead of running in first person you run in camera person? What's good about that?
You wouldn't be able to hold to fire a gun while moving with the camera. I can imagine it being terrifying if there are zombies coming towards you, the night vision the only thing showing you were you are, while flailing the crosshairs around the screen, Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis style as the camera runs out of battery and you only have the shambling to tell you where they are.
Zombie outbreak in Medevil castle (Think that really big ass castle from lord of the rings). And the combat system should be ripped straight from Darm messiah of might and magic, because that game had the BEST FUCKING COMBAT EVER.
Also, If anyone steal my idea, i will kill them, bring them back to life and SUE THEM TO DEATH AGAIN.
Best Idea you put down your camera when you shoot so you need to aim the pick up gun then shoot!
How about we give some ability to the player character, let them actually get physical with the zombies.
No more "hurr infection ill be zombeh" The undead are truly rotten shambling corpses, fresh bloody corpses and anything in between.
The scary thing about them wont be the doom 3-like jump scares but the impending wave of doom homing in on one tiny blip of life in a massive wasteland and how other people are actually your biggest enemy.
I CALL IT: Jirked in an apocalypse
The gun has a cam-corder attached to it :v:
The cam-corder has the gun attached to it.
The camcorder IS the gun.
But gordon is flying camera with arms
You'd be retarded if you ran around in a town full of zombies with a camera in your hands
The whole idea would be you'd record the significant event in human history and feel that if there were any future generations who survived, even if you didn't you would at least be remembered in history through the video.
So shut up.
But gordon is flying camera with arms
And minor telekinesis powers.
Anyways, I like the idea but like it was said before a human would most likely ditch a camera if the situation got too tense because survival is more important than a camera. The earpiece camera makes having the camera plausible but to be "realistic" it would need to be off-centre from the actual point of view for the player. This might make aiming more awkward though.
Also, from a player point of view the player should get some reward for using the camera and it should be implemented more than just as an explanation to why there is a camera as a tool of adding immersion. Maybe a way of having both a camcorder and the headset piece and use the other as a "minimap"-esque tool that would allow you to leave the camcorder into a location and see the camera feed from that position while your headset camera acts as the main point of view. Leaving it somewhere for too long would make it run out of batteries and turn off and/or leaving the area would return it to your inventory.
Maybe the game could also have some sort of conspiracy or other spying business going on at the same time to justify the use of the camera as a tool for spying. Or perhaps the camcorder has night vision but the headset doesn't and the hand held camera also acts as the only source of light having a built in LED flashlight thus forcing the player to use it in the dark? The hand held would naturally also have zooming and maybe some other useful filters that might reveal stuff. Temperature overlay for example.
Just throwing out some ideas. Think of them as you will.

why do you think the gunstore owner would die when he has so many guns and thousands of bullets.
if he died why would you be the first one to loot his store?
