• Activision strongly considers monthly bill for portion of Multiplayer
that's what I'm thinking, it doesn't matter if we stop "feeding the pig" as digitalforce so eloquently put it, they're going to milk it until it's raw and bleeding everywhere and bleeding into the milk and then axe it instantly when it starts losing profits (look at guitar hero: they'll come out with 50 different versions in a year, then fire the studio that made it when they start making less than seven figures off of it every week)
And that's right, it probably doesn't matter at all. They could keep releasing CODs every year for decades, people get bored with it gradually and that creates a new market for different games, with different styles, etc. The easiest way to fight a behemoth like Call of Duty is innovation, trying something new, and for us normal consumers, nothing's better than fresh stuff. And finally, it's not like COD "eats away" other games, there's plenty of fish in the sea.
And that is why my argument is more against the consumer instead of Activision. They are clearly out to make money off suckers. They did it with Guitar Hero and they are doing it with COD. I just don't understand why people keep opening their wallets to them no matter what method they use to get MORE of your money. Period. If you want to support that methodology, go ahead but don't attack me because I don't believe in it.. Don't attack me because there are other gaming companies that give maps and content for free and seem to actually care and support their customers.
No one ever mentions Need For Speed. They have 18 games, and going.

NO NEED to innovate... as long as you keep paying, they keep releasing without much improvement. Halo hasn't died off in 10 years and I doubt COD will either...
just to be crystal clear I hope with my whole heart and soul that Activision goes out of business because of stupid shit like this, but people like digitalforce are just fucking annoying I loved mw2's campaign and I'll either get a story synopsis of mw3 or play it at a friend's house or rent it or get it second-hand, I haven't bought any of the CoD DLC and I never will, and it's a shame that the series is getting milked
For each WoW expansion, the level cap becomes higher, there are more classes to play, more quests, new areas, etc. It's a formula that works and people like it. Same thing with Call of Duty. [editline].[/editline] Oh yes, and Call of Duty's 'Prestige Mode'. What does that tell you? People like the game, and are willing to start back at level 1 in multiplayer and play through again. Some people do it 10 times. It's a competitive game.

As a gamer going on 30 years on every platform from Apple IIe to Coleco to NES to PSX to PC to X360, it's truly depressing to see what "mainstream gaming" has become: A nickel and dime contest and people are gobbling it right up. Brainless shooters that are practically the same game in a new package. Point 1 - I joined the Xbox 360 beta and got Halo: Reach for free. Trying it with an open mind, I was absolutely floored. "This is the EXACT same game I played 10 years ago with a bit better graphics. Is this the best we can do?" Point 2 - I bought COD BOPS for PC for LAN parties. After playing it, I thought "This is the EXACT same game we've been playing for years now but with $15 map packs, smaller maps and less game modes Is this the best we can do?" I won't make the mistake of buying any of that garbage ever again..

I don't know where you got the idea of Halo: Reach being the same as Halo: Combat Revolved. That just baffles me. Sounds like someone never actually played the games, huh? You can complain about mainstream music too. I guess old people aren't very open to new things that other people like but they don't.

Of course a business will keep making games like that if they know they can make a damn good profit, you'd be a terrible businessman if you didn't. Sure it is in smaller chunks, but you are still paying for game content. His post describes the situation perfectly: if the price isn't worth it, don't buy it. Frankly no one really cares whether you do or not. This goes for video games, video game content, and just about anything.
MW3 confirmed to be NOT pay to play and also ELIT3 is free, it's just optional stuff that you have to pay. I won't pay though.
I hope I don't kill digitalforce. I'm not showing the CoDs below CoD4 because everyone loves those. Anyway, no one complained about the older Battlefields. Honestly. Battlefield 1942 got me into FPS games, then they released Battlefield: Vietnam, which was a Vietnam styled Battlefield 1942. Then came Battlefield 2, which had more features, but basically was a modern Battlefield 1942, then we have Battlefield 2142, which is a futuristic Battlefield 1942. I love those games to death, but that's what it looks like if you treat it like CoD.

It's a steady cash flow with a low entry cost and small dev time. It will probably be a success with COD. It sells up to 20 million copies and I have no doubt that a portion of that userbase will pay for such content. It's really all they know and want. I'm afraid to see it used by other devs with franchises that simple cannot support such a model.
LOL! Just because I have strong feelings about this issue (Most of them recent), doesn't mean I am some beast. I have bought most of the Battlefields, WoWs, CODs, etc. But the whole reason I jumped on this topic because this is a middle finger to gamers everywhere to PAY for features that should just be included. They will make millions regardless on MW3.. but this is blatant test to see how far people will go.. that is why I am so fired up on the issue.
But what Activision fails to see is.. When has monthly paying for a game worked. Yea on MMO's. But im talking about a FPS game. I know Activision wipes their ass with my money. But id like that they would atleast treat us like humans. They think we shit money out of our ass. But who cares, Im talking about Activision here. One of the most greediest companies in the world.

You don't really matter regarding this issue.

hey digitalforce I can promote games that are cheaper but have nothing to do with first person shooting at all too! guys you should totally buy super meat boy instead it's $45 less than the average cod title plus it has free dlc and ABSOLUTELY TONS OF REPLAYABILITY
COD, at this rate, will not burst anytime soon. Look at Halo.. going on 10 years? It's in the exact same camp "Take a dump in a box, label it COD/Halo/Fast and Furious" and it sells millions. Halo ODST still sold millions and it was a steaming pile. Doesn't matter though. I am in a very small minority in this society. I bought way too many CODs and Halos before realizing "I am getting duped here." I have a friend who bought Black Ops on 360, PS3 and PC.. it's disgusting. [editline]31st May 2011[/editline] Yes, if millions keep buying them. Why would you try to make anything original, new or full of features when COD sets the example? "Android Phone", until you have a semi-coherent argument.. please.. stop.
I enjoyed ODST thankyouverymuch, go spout your witcher 2 crap somewhere else, because that's a game I'm not interested in.
and now we know that witcher fanboys are just as bad as cod fanboys
At least said Witcher fanboys have some ground supporting a quality game. COD is for shallow minded gamers who want simple thrills - Fact! COD gamers know nothing about gaming, considering they buy the exact same game every year. Does changing a killstreak and adding a couple of maps make it a new game worth $60? If i had CODs marketing team under my wings I could probably make millions from selling fecal matter to those gullible teenagers out there.
Gaming companies are not focusing on graphics either, seriously, half of all games that come out nowdays don't look pretty.

Guise, lets share our cod 3l173 nicknames so we can add eachother and be 1337 together
Feeding the pig? I'm pretty sure everyone who buys CoD knows what to expect, and they don't complain too often.
You being serious? Every time a new cod game comes out you see a new generation of people who complain about a major fault in the game. Not just one or two either. You ever checked Steam stats of peak play time? Compare daily peak player counts of MW2 compared to the more recent blackops... Blackops always has fewer players everyday. Indicating that PC gamers are realising COD is just being rehashed every year. With regards to console gamers, their minds are generally fickle and more gullible. If a friend has the game they feel obliged to fit in, putting no consideration into quality of the game. [editline]1st June 2011[/editline]
Excuse me, I am a cod gamer, and would you please look at my steam profile before you make assumptions?
Generally speaking - I should have probably said cod fanboys instead of cod gamer. Even so, generally its the truth. Particularly with console gamers. End of the day no COD fanboy can highlight aspects of recent cod games that sets it apart from previous cod games or its competitors. Can't mention a point about it except "its cool" or "its fun"... thats not really basing it on any particular feature of the game. When i could easily highlight many negative aspects to it.

I'm a CoD gamer, I enjoy the games, I wouldn't say MW2 nor Black Ops are worth 60 bucks, but I enjoy them and that's what gaming is all about.
Well, you're making great assumptions here. I'm a CoD gamer, I enjoy the games, I wouldn't say MW2 nor Black Ops are worth 60 bucks, but I enjoy them and that's what gaming is all about.
I didn't enjoy black ops that much, like, 10 hours or so :v:
Generally speaking - I should have probably said cod fanboys instead of cod gamer. Even so, generally its the truth. [editline]1st June 2011[/editline]
I didn't enjoy black ops that much, like, 10 hours or so :v:
Nah ofcourse everyone isn't gonna enjoy it, and that's why it's all subjective.

It doesn't mean the game is actually good.
the fact you enjoy it is your own personal preference. It doesn't mean the game is actually good.
But the fact that SO MANY people enjoy it, does. I know it's a little hard for you to understand it, but when the majority of the people like something, that thing becomes good.
