So is it true that Excalibur is the unofficial official North America Legacy server? Because I really don't want to end up on an empty legacy server and be stuck there for 6 months.

Also Daj you're wrong, anyone that played in 1.0 gets to import their character to 2.0. Legacy holders just have perks.

I might be done playing for now. Game is good but with the prospect of losing all of my progress and saving not being implemented until phase 4, I'd rather just wait until then to really, really play.

I think my hardest choice is between a cat girl or highlander right now. :c the cat girls are adorable and full of energy and have a huge personality which is really making me roll one, rather than generic kinda boring super ~serious~ human.

I wanted to make a catdude for once but they have maybe two good hairstyles and everyone looks the same

also my catgirl is adorbs in a robe I don't think catdude would fare so well outside of med/heavy armors

loving conjurer of the classes thus far by the way, gw2 has deprived me of powerful healing roles (and I always build healy, even my warrior was all heals)

I personally haven't enjoyed the beta so far. Maybe I'm just not high enough level, but combat is really dull. And don't get me started on the unicorn barf colored armor. Yeah, sure, there are dyes, but why should I have to buy dyes just so my armor is a normal color instead of popsicle vomit green.

They actually look suprisingly good, especially as bards. I also noticed the helmets have covers for the ears in metal as well.

also beta is pretty cool so far. they've definitely improved the game significantly from what it used to be. I'll still argue though that the quests are still kind of standard fare and combat is a tad slow.

I wasn't too fond of the bard outfit there, you see it as your 'future' self thing in the opening for archer, also as the preview for job armor

hair highlights are imbalanced, if you have light hair with dark highlights they're barely visible but dark hair with light highlights ends up near 50/50, if not more highlight than main color on some hairstyles. I don't mind

for those of you who know my escapades in GW2, I'm already working on ways to break animations. I think it may be intentional but if you make a macro to hit to /emotes at once, one for an action (like /lookout) then a face (the last number of emotes, such as /grin or /closedeyes or whatever it is), the face overrides the face on the action and you can kind of reassign the meaning of it, aka "doing a lookout motion with your eyes closed". Above picture was /airquotes and /taunt (which gives a cocky grin)

Furthermore, you can prevent an emote from making the emote text "[character] dances with joy!" in the text fiel by adding "motion" onto the end, so a macro like-

/panic motion
/grin motion
/me is friggin' excited

will end up only displaying the /me text while you look around like you're on cocaine

also also, make a backup of the character data save you made at the end of character creation, it's in the folder "C:\Users\[YOU]\Documents\My Games\FINAL FANTASY XIV - A Realm Reborn (Beta Version)". There's files called "FFXIV_CHARA_BETA01.dat", numbered for each save slot you used. When you make a new character in the next beta and want your old look back, you can drop this back into the folder if it gets wiped and use the 'load character data' checkbox at the beginning of creation

How often does the beta run? Every weekend? And any idea when it'll become phase 4?

seems to be weekend by weekend. I expect at least one or two more third phase tests, though nothing is announced. Nothing was announced for last weekend til wednesday or thursday too, so don't expect an official answer for a bit. I couldn't tell you if they're planning on doing a more open beta for phase 4, or if it will still run the awful weekend schedule or not on p4

also yeah I love how the helmets and such get cat ears, even hempen stuff gets special stitching around the ear holes, it's almost jarring seeing that level of custom tailoring for armor bits. Kinda wish they paid as much attention to the tails though. I saw a guy with a signature noting that there is no tail armor and he wants it back. The picture had two shots of a character that looked near identical in each (same armor), can anyone who played through 1.0 tell me if it was originally in with plated armor and such, or was it just in XI

The aggro bits also shows on the mob list at the bottom left too, so when you're tanking its really easy to switch to whichever one you've lost.
