I'm sorry but reserving the last beta phase (and if I'm not mistaken, the only open one) for stress-testing is a dick move.
First and foremost, it's a BETA. The entire purpose of it is for testing only, nothing else. Why don't people EVER understand this? You are meant to test the game, not get a head start. SE is actually one of the very few that are even allowing it's testers to keep their progress. It also has never been a guarantee that those participating in the open beta would get to keep their progress. They made it specifically clear that a wipe was also a possibility. This was never a promise by SE, it was a possibility, and one meant to get as many people playing BETA as possible. Think about it, a lot of people don't participate in open BETAs because they know they will have to do it all over again. SE was actually smart about it, which resulted in many many more people signing up to play.
Open Betas for large releases are always meant to be stress tests, and are always done last. It's like this for pretty much every MMO, ever. The game has to be completed for stress tests to even occur. You can't just throw a bunch of people in an incomplete game and expect the same results as you would a complete game.
Blizzard seems to be the only company that fails with stress testing and releases. Vanilla WoW and Diablo 3 are two great examples. They had open beta stress testing the weekends before their releases, but there was not nearly enough people testing them as there should have been. Both releases were nothing short of disasters. Vanilla WoW still makes me shudder.
On the flipside, open beta's usually end up resulting in smooth launches. Swtor and Guild Wars 2 were two excellent recent launches with minimal issues. Personally, I think the reason for this was both games did multiple weekend stress testing, rather than just one weekend.
I was laughing hard back when GW2 launched because people were throwing the worst bitchfits about how it would fail because they were having occasional server connection issues during the first week
I really want to post some suggestions on the forums, but I know people will just whine and complain and try to come up with witty remarks about why my suggestions are bad. And with how fast threads go by there, I feel like my suggestions would get lost in the dust rather quickly.
Two things I would love to see is making tanks emit more aggro for enemies, and reduce the aggro on Alchemist's summons. Carbuncle is incredibly OP and can easily tank enemies in dungeons, which makes my role as a tank pretty useless.
[editline]20th August 2013[/editline]
Another thing I would like to see is the ability to buy spells. I kind of liked that in XI. It gave me something to work toward when leveling up, instead of just doing quests and grinding to get the next 5 levels so I could continue the storyline. Although, if they did that, they would have to increase the number of spells we get.

I really hate how every MMO launch is the same sorta thing, some connection/balence issue comes out, everyone thinks that the game is going to say that way or its DOOOOOOOOMED.
Subsequently those people dissapear at the same time the people who keep conversing about how "World of Warcraft is a shit casual game lol"

I guess we can redeem our pre-order codes.

On top of that, I'd like to see the game better instruct DPS classes on the proper etiquette of dungeon combat, i.e. focus on one target instead of many (low level MRDs/GLDs only have one form of crowd control and it's pretty weak), don't run around if you pick up aggro (makes it that much more difficult for the tank to pick it back up), don't pull before the tank has picked up the aggro (again, makes the tank's job much harder), etc.

I want to go back to the youtube comments from gw2's launch and make a thread simulator style thing of all of the people fighting tooth and nail about how terrible it is. I love and hate the casual donks who abandon ship in the first weeks then turn around to try and convince everyone who's having a good time that they're clearly not having a good time
So was I supposed to get a early access code if I pre-ordered the game straight from the square enix store? It said this in the order confirmation email ''You don’t need to do anything now. We’ll email you again near the time that the Early Access starts with the next steps.''

OK it's working but the site is slammed it seems.
whenever i click login, it says "you're logging in as ..." but i don't want to log in as the email that it keeps trying to log me in as and it won't let me change it

I asked them "Is my code now void..." because the game is now registered against my SE account but on PC instead of PS3, they reassured me that the code will not be void and to try it again when the page is active. If it doesn't work, then to phone them directly and they will address it."

Thats actually from 5am this morning, the site is live and working they're just experience a flood of traffic. Hence they wouldn't be posting on twitter that they're trying to fix the preorder fix from all the errors people are having.
Like me getting the Error 3: There is a problem, please try again later.
Basically you go to that site, login to your account enter the 18-digit code, if it works SE mails you a 20-digit early access code that you register on the other site for early access, confusing right?

Now I'm just fucking confused...
I like how the forums complain about the game being to easy, but then someone says that arcanist is way op and then everyone says that it's completely fine.
did anyone here play ACN and have thoughts?
I don't but playing as a Thaumaturge is ridiculous. I just use ice attacks and literally never lose MP while dealing tons of damage. It's awesome and sort of disconcerting at the same time. Having really powerful stuff right from the beginning leads me to believe that it will either not scale well or just get nerfed entirely down the road.
did anyone here play ACN and have thoughts?
i only got to level 10 but it was kinda meh imo
the starter ability, Ruin, is pretty boring and has a 2.5 second cast time which can be a pain in the ass when you're doing FATEs
the summon you get isn't all that great either
you also get an ability that can only be used after you use another ability, but the ability that you need to use first has a pretty long CD and the ability that you can use after you use the first one isn't even very powerful
i think arcanist would get more interesting later on but from the bit i played it was rather boring
did anyone here play ACN and have thoughts?
I played it to 18, and I felt like a debuffer, with a minor attack and a minor heal, and a pet that felt more useful than me at times.
so what I'm getting is it's a ranger pet kinda thing balanced so playing between you and your pet actually matters, instead of it being a meek little NPC that runs into a fight and dies immediately, and also you can help manage your party whilst the pet focuses on doing a nominal amount of support on its own
I am intrigued
It's a global cooldown, amigo, every class has that same limit on virtually all their spells.
Oh man, so earlier today I tried to redeem my preorder code, but it error'd out. Well, I just got an email with the early access code to redeem on my account, except, square enix has been sending some US people EU early access codes, and your early access code has to match the region of your game, so I'm fucked.
They're working on it but honestly this is such a headache. They've shut down the pre-order redeem code/early access page until they can fix it, but I'll be really pissed if I don't get early access after preordering.

Two things: First, whoever has Topaz Carbuncle out in a dungeon is not playing their class right. Second, Topaz Carbuncle is incredibly easy to hold aggro over. I was doing it at level 13 on my Marauder. He produces roughly the same amount of enmity as the tanking classes, but his damage isn't nearly as good. As long as every other attack you do produces enmity, you will pull aggro from Topaz Carbuncle. There wasn't a single Fate I participated in where I lost threat to Pikachu.
clearly they're vaporeon and jolteon

Look great to me. I have one thing to say though:
FUCKING TONBERRYS?! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!
*all at once horrible experiences from past FF games flash before his eyes*
I remember all the fucking tonberries I had to kill in the temple in FFXI to get that NM spawn item for hornetneedle, it sucked so much :/
