i'm currently making a ton of progress on the new OP. I'll post it in here when I think i'm done with it (hopefully tonight) and wait until a few people have looked it over. Then if it's fine, i'll make the new thread tomorrow some time and dai can lock this one. I'll probably just make the title: "Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn" here's a small preview so far without proper headers for the sections:
Looks good so far, but I feel as if the title is missing something. Like lines of long queues or error 1012 edition, etc.

mob density in some places is annoying. Need to kill gigantoads so can make toad leather, there's literally 5 of them in the entire zone? and they're a quest mob too. :l

Okay here's the OP. Let me know if I should change anything, and if it's fine i'll make the thread in like ~6-7 hours. I don't have an introductory paragraph but I can always add that later. I can also expand more on the Job System + Skills later, but for now this is good enough. Or if someone else wants to type that stuff up, that's cool too. ============
Introductory Blurb goes here. Proabably about how this is the second launch of the game. And how catgirls are master race. Also costs ~USD$12-15 a month after initial purchase + 30 free days.
There are 2 variants for every race in the game, a "lighter" and "darker" version. Even if you choose a "darker", you can generally make it look like an equivalent "lighter" variant if you want. Each variant has their own voices to choose from, and their animations usually vary between the variants. The starting stat points you receive on character creation are also slightly different, either leaning towards magic or physical. However both the race, and the variant of the race, matter very little in the long run as stat point growth isn't exponential. So your +3 STR will still only be a +3 STR when you're at the end of the game. Therefore it's much wiser to choose the race you enjoy playing the most, unless you want to min/max and get the highest possible damage when playing specific classes. A great feature of FFXIV is that you can play every class on a single character by simply swapping out what your weapon is. This means that alts are almost entirely pointless, although leveling up all of the classes will take quite a considerable amount of time. You also need to complete your Level 10 class quest from your respective guild in order to start leveling up other classes. After you've completed the quest, all you have to do is go around to every starter town and join the guilds to unlock the classes. Afterwards, equip the weapon for the class and you're good to go! You can even save a custom "Gear Set" to quickly change between various classes, although your skills will have a 60 second cooldown right after swapping (and you can't do it while in battle). These are your standard STR/DEX/VIT classes. As a general rule of thumb, the closer the class is to the enemy, and the less armor they wear, the more damage the class does; but this comes at the risk of taking far more damage from enemies. Archer (ARC): Ranged Single-Target DPS (Gridania) Marauder (MRD): Tank (Limsa Lominsa) Gladiator (GLA): Tank (Ul'Dah) Lancer (LNC): Close-range DPS (Gridania) Pugilist (PGL): Close-range DPS (Ul'Dah) Generic mage classes. Each one focuses on a specific school of magic, but have a few spells from the other classes so they aren't completely useless when you're playing solo. Thaumaturge (THM): Ranged AOE DPS (Ul'Dah) Conjurer (CNJ): Healing/Support (Gridania) Arcanist (ACN): Summoning/Support (Limsa Lominsa) These are the main crafting classes in the game; although you can't start out as one of them in character creation. To access crafting, you need to unlock "Cross-Classing" by finishing your level 10 class quest. All 3 major towns hold a different set of crafting guilds, so you'll need to visit all of them in order to unlock all of the crafting classes. For most of the classes, the materials needed for low-end recipes are available from NPCs nearby the crafting guilds. But once you start getting out of the basic recipes, you'll either need to gather the materials using "Disciple of the Land" classes, getting drops from enemies using your "Battle" classes, or buying them from the player market. Leatherworker (LTW): Medium Armor (Gridania) Goldsmith (GSM): Jewelry / Accessories (Ul'Dah) Blacksmith (BSM): Metal Weapons (Limsa Lominsa) Alchemist (ALC): Potions / Dye / Etc (Ul'Dah) Weaver (WVR): Light Armor (Ul'Dah) Carpenter (CRP): Staves / Bows (Gridania) Armorer (ARM): Heavy Armor (Limsa Lominsa) Culinarian (CUL): Food (Limsa Lominsa) Again, you can't start out as one of these classes when making your character. The sole purpose of these classes are to gather raw materials for use in the crafting classes. Although it's totally possible to play, for example, solely as a fisherman because you really really enjoy fishing. Miner (MIN): Ore (Ul'Dah) Botanist (BTN): Wood/Plants (Gridania) Fisher (FSH): Fish (Limsa Lominsa) Once you reach certain levels in various classes, you can start to specialize into a "Job" to more effectively fill a specific role in a party. The unlock the "job", they usually require you to be Level 30 of a main class, and Level 15 of a secondary class. Paladin (PLD): 30 Guardian / 15 ??? Monk (MNK): 30 Pugilist / 15 ??? Warrior (WAR): 30 Marauder / 15 ??? Dragoon (DRG): 30 Lancer / 15 ??? Bard (BRD): 30 Archer / 15 ??? White Mage (WHM): 30 Conjurer / 15 ??? Black Mage (BLM): 30 Thaumaturge / 15 ??? Summoner (SMN): 30 Arcanist / 15 ??? Scholar (SCH): 30 Arcanist / 15 ??? (If you have a nice screenshot you want in the OP, PM me and i'll look at replacing some of these stock images) [t]http://i.imgur.com/n5Oo7eI.jpg[/t][t]http://i.imgur.com/wYUekyn.jpg[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/a7suPMB.jpg[/t][t]http://i.imgur.com/wXUGA7d.jpg[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/jhkvI0n.jpg[/t][t]http://i.imgur.com/14T61j0.jpg[/t] Useful Links Official Website -- News / More info Mog Station -- account details + subscription management + support Official Forums -- multi-lingual Purchase the game Character Creation Demo If you want to see how the game runs before you go out and purchase it, Square Enix provided a "Character Creation" benchmark you can try out. It has the entirety of the character creation in it, and you can even import characters created with the software into the game when creating your character for real. Although it's a pretty big download. You can get it here: http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/benchmark/ Terminology Gil: Money / Gold Aether Crystal: Large crystals located in major towns and major outposts. Can teleport to them. Favored Destination: If you set a Aether Crystal as a favored destination, the cost for teleporting to that crystal is reduced by 50%. Guild: Quest hubs for a specific class. Each major town has exclusive access to specific guilds. Linkshells: Custom chat channels. To create, talk to a linkshell distributor in any of the major 3 towns. To join, you need to be invited by a Leader/Master of the linkshell. Free Company: Fancy name for "guild". Currently doesn't do much. Need to be level 25 to create one. Grand Company: NPC factions. Can join around level 20. Only difference is story/colors, and you can switch to a different one later if you don't like your choice. FATE: Random events that spawn in every "wilderness" map, generally designed for 10+ people to partake in at once. Level Sync: If your level is "too high" for the content, the game presents you with the option to temporarily reduce your level down to the recommended level. Duty Finder: Instance matching service that finds you a party across worlds. Hunting Log: (Obtained from early Guild guest) Gain exp bonuses for killing certain monsters. You also get a "Grand company Hunting Log" later on which rewards you Seals. Fishing / Crafting / Gathering Log: Track the stuff you've made/caught/foraged. Teleporation / Transporation After you've attuned yourself to the various Aether Crystals located around the world, you can teleport to them at any time you want for a small Gil fee. You can access the teleport window by clicking on the icon in the main menu, or by adding the hotkey to a hotbar by dragging it from your "Actions / Traits" window. You can also ride a rented chocobo in-between various locations, although it'll take 1-5 minutes and a minor Gil fee. You also need to have visited the location once before (make sure to talk to the chocobo keeper when you pass by them!) Once you have a mount (see further below), it's a faster/cheaper option than renting a chocobo, but still slower than teleporting directly to a crystal. HUD Customization When customizing the HUD, you can resize elements by selecting it and then pressing [CTRL]+[HOME] on your keyboard; It will then cycle between 3 different sizes. HUD customization is stored per character. Mounts You can get a Chocobo mount after you join a Grand Company at level 20. The quest-giver should generally be very close nearby the NPC where you officially joined the Grand Company. You'll need to gather 2,000 Grand Company Seals, which can be obtained by completing FATEs, duties, leves, and your Grand Company Hunting Log (there's probably other ways). You can get other mounts later on in the game, including one for completing the entirety of the main questline. We're looking at having everybody play on Hyperion (NA Legacy). Hopefully square enix will allow us all to have one free server transfer thanks to the horrible re-launch of the game. Although if the queues to log in are excessively long then we all might switch over to a different server; only time will tell. For now, join whatever world you want. Basic overview of where people are playing in the meantime: (List goes here eventually)
^ That looks amazing, post it ASAP, maybe make a google doc that some moderators can update with what servers people are currently on or something like that. [editline]5th September 2013[/editline] Suggestion, add a list of advanced classes and their requirements? Ie. Dragoon is Lancer 30, Marauder 15.
For misc links, there's a page with a lot of useful resources here: badass resource list v1.2, but at the moment they're in the process of restoring their server. that OP looks amazingly professional.

Quick note, calling Archer Single target DPS probably isn't appropriate considering they have 2-3 aoe abilities :v:
