Any one up for some D&D? (I'm a newbie to D&D so I only have E4 books)
Edition 4. Really? You should find a way to get 3.5. 3.5 is the De Facto rulebook that most people play by. And it's also is much more free in character creation.

[editline]03:56AM[/editline] I've played 3.5 at level 1 once, so my experience with it is minimal at best. The only difference I felt is that is was more roleplay-e(not sure how to phrase that) and that can happen in any system. It also doesn't use a tactical map, which didn't really effect me, since we didn't do much fighting. It does have a bunch more shit for non-combat encounters, which is good, but I'm a fighter, not a commoner, so that really doesn't matter for me. [editline]03:58AM[/editline] Also the whole lot of at-will powers/encounters/dailies were instead feats, but I didn't care much, I could just take whatever I need. On the upside, that does make it very free in character optimization.
I love my feats. Neverwinter Nights made pretty damn good use of the 3.5 system. All my knowledge basically comes from there.
The main thing I liked about 3.5e was the magic system. There were a load of spells in the PHB that had some great potential for abstract use. Magic in 4e, however, just got made into powers for spellcaster classes.

This however was a bad idea, since most games are at hobby shops(?), in hobby shops you usually get ruleplaying instead of roleplaying. So you would seem very limited because in non-combat spells are usually healing, skill buffing, or movement enhancement. Here's an example of how a good dm would handle spells DM: The room is bare and dark, unlight torches bare on the walls of the maze's pathway, you are likely to be eaten by a grue Player: I cast fireball on the torches at a few of the torches(it's a burst attack) DM: The torches are lit, in the area around the torches you shall be safe from grue attack Now a bad DM DM: Alright the pathway is dark, unlight torches on the walls, you are probably going to be eaten by a grue player: I'd like to use fireball in a burst on those torches DM: You can't do that, fireball doesn't work that way Player: What? That's simple logic DM: I'm the DM your not, leave if you don't like it; I'm just following the rules. This is all speculation however. But in all honesty magic got the short end of the 4e shaft, non-magical classes on the other hand are enjoying the benefits. [editline]06:22AM[/editline] Besides, all the editions felt drastic like drastic changes, because the players are now out of their comfort zone, they don't want to play that in favor of an edition they already know. To sum it up, they are both dungeons and dragons, but they are both very different at the same time.
Hey guys, let me give you a rundown for what has been happening in the Shadow of Marrow game. The story started off when the party arrived by ship in the territory of Zea. The three members of the party; Zanzuketh, Harry, and Lily enter the tavern and end up fighting a Talacan soldier that was trying to convert the town into their power, the party kills the soldier and are given a mission to go to a fort in the territory of Beta. On the way the party meets the Talacan's friends outside the town and are forced to fight them and win due to Lily's Ice arrow spell. When they arrive at the fort they a greeted by a Orc named Thuudg and a Talacan seige attacking the Helistic fort. The party kills the seige and Thuudg joins the party. Soon after they are sent into a cave not far outside the fort to kill the local Talacan leader, they succeed again. They also discover that the helmets that the Talacan wear are enchanted to brainwash their soldiers, hint why Lily went crazy and thought she was pregnant shortly after puting on a Talacan uniform. They also find a strang meteor in the basement of the Talacan base and Zanzuketh is able to absorb a ShadowScar from the meteor. When they return to the base they find that there are many more Meteors scattered around the island and other people that have the same scar, including the commander of the fort, also Thuudg grew a third arm from radiation. The party were tasked with defending the port town they arrived in from a Talacan seige and are also given new Mercs to join their party, this is where Zach and (Halp cat, no idea how to spell his character's name) come in. They return to the town help kill the seige and return for their pay. This is where the party is currently at.
I would assume that means no variant classes as well? Because a nudist paladin of Freedom seems like a very, VERY interesting idea.
Prestige classes from the class specific books are k. [editline]07:59PM[/editline]
(Halp cat, no idea how to spell his character's name) come in.
Vynnendor.
Does anyone here play Dark Heresy? It's the only RPG I have apart from WFRP v2 and a box of DnD.
I've never played Dark Heresy before, but I'd love to play.
We might be starting another game depending who comes, we might just skip a peice of the adventure if Funnygamer doesn't play. Also Jax, we could use some animal enemies to fight.
I don't exactly do animals, but you can steal the boar on the far right, and the wierd two legged animal above it.
Yes, 1 player +DM isn't fun. :saddowns: [editline]11:11PM[/editline] Also password is Facepunch
Prestige classes from the class specific books are k. [editline]07:59PM[/editline] Vynnendor.
It isn't prestige, it's variant. It's basically a chaotic good paladin, there are also CE and LE paladin variants. http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/classes/variantCharacterClasses.htm#paladinofFreedomClassFeatures Also give me your steam, so we I can discuss some things with you pertaining to a dnd game. :colbert:
Hey guys, we're starting to get a game together using this, http://microlite20.net/ , check it out.
Hey guys, we're starting to get a game together using this, http://microlite20.net/ , check it out.
Assume everyone picks that, yes. Current list: Me(DM) Jax Zeroarmorclo (possibly) Zero Ziat Add me on steam http://steamcommunity.com/id/touchytent so we can discuss and get things going. Also the other option is www.basicfantasy.org
I think you're already on my friends list.
-snip-
Just finished the first game of microlite20, I can say :iia:.
I understand this is a massive bump, so I hope I don't get banned. But is anyone interested in playing a session of D&D (3.5)? I haven't played in a good while, and I figured Facepunch may be interested as well. [editline]14th October 2010[/editline]
Hey guys, we're starting to get a game together using this, http://microlite20.net/ , check it out.
This has taken my interest as well. I'm down to use this if it would be more convenient.
I would like to get introduced in the wonderful world of tabletop roleplaying.. but i am sadly placed in a world where our kind is rare. I love games with dice in. So would anybody be so kind to give me an IP to a server with people having patience enough for me to join? P.S i learn quick
I'll cheerfully involve myself in some stuff here. Anyone interested in Rogue Trader?
I have a couple of questions. 1: Is it a good way to get into tabletop RPGs if no-one in your area is interested in them? 2: Is this program all I need? 3: Are the rules of any D&D edition available online for free? (Probably a stupid question) 4: Is this program hard to use and is it an active community?

You can always introduce it to your friends, so that instead of having their imaginations raped by video games, they can instead use their minds to play and/or create their OWN stories. Tabletop RPGs let you do ANYTHING you as the player want. 2. Yeah. It has built in die rollers, and even a board similar to MS paint so the DM (narrator) can show how situation looks if you want visual aid. 3. http://www.d20srd.org/ There you go. 4. OpenRPG is actually pretty simple, it just looks complicated. As long as you know how to click the right die and you can talk with some decent grammar, life is pretty easy.
I have the same issue with nobody I know being remotely interested. I'd also quite like to learn how to play D&D or similar at some point, so if anybody is willing to have a massive newbie then PM me please.
So, anybody wanna actually make a server? I might POSSIBLY be on later tonight, MAYBE not. I MIGHT be the most of this week, but due to living at my parents, using their connection, i am not allowed to stay on for more than 30 to 60 mins, but at night, wich means day for the americans, i sometimes stay late on.
What is the most popular game played on OpenRPG?
Obviously D&D 3.5.. We could try some settlers if anybody wants.. Seafarer expansion is quite cool too..
I could read my way to this, but now i'm asking you... do they have D&D 2.0? I'm quite capable at that ruleset.
I could read my way to this, but now i'm asking you... do they have D&D 2.0? I'm quite capable at that ruleset.
OpenRPG isn't any set game. It just has the tools that you would use for a D20 system type game, so that you can play via computer.
I just wanna try some damn DnD..
So wait, is anybody organizing anything? If you are, could you please PM me, as I will most likely want to join.
