You're a courier who gets shot and left in a shallow grave doing a routine delivery. From there, the story focuses on finding out who shot you and why.
That already sounds better than nagging anything with a pair of ears and a pulse with "I'm looking for my father. Middle-aged man. Maybe you've seen him?"
Fallout 3 was my favorite, I HATE turn based games like the first two fallouts, but of all those boring as fuck looking overhead games, the first two fallouts were the best of their kind.

Getting abandoned at an age when you should be looking after yourself anyway seems like a less compelling reason to go looking for someone than getting shot in the gut just for doing your job. James wasn't all that important to anyone but the Lyons' Brotherhood and Dr. Li's science team - if what you're carrying was important enough, more people are likely to sit up and take notice when you ask for the person who gunned you down over it. Besides, most players mainly give a damn about one character: themselves.

"I'm looking for the man that shot me. I don't know who it was. Maybe you've seen them?" sounds ridiculous anyway.
Alright, so I downloaded the Hi-res Armor and Weapons from 4Aces and I have NO idea on how to install it. The description says put all the parts in 1 folder then decompress the first one, but when I try to decompress it, it says it is corrupted. Any help?
Because Bethesda bought the rights to it, they may own the rights, they however don't have the same sense for the universe as the original creators do.
and Monkey, "lazy" people would play casual or fast games, because, they're, y'know, lazy, so they're likely not to spend a long time going through something that isn't always instant gratification.
they did a good job for a first development after an aquisition of an IP. also, the original creaters have made MANY pessimistic statements regarding the insane objective that is "to satisfy the fans" sending off harsh remarks on occation. some "old" fans are just to nitpicky and i thing New Vegas will prove this and i also dare to believe no one would have accepted Van Buren.
you're way to general in your assessment of who plays what. diversity in your gaming and the level of "hardcore/casuality" that is required in them. i LOVE casual games for relaxation I.E. the free Trackmania Nations thing. but, i also play more serious games in many genres. if you don't, try it. it's nice not to ( i wouldn't say hate, cause you didn't, but) do the allergy towards certain genres or complexity/generally more relaxed games like the 3-5th grade "OH SHIT, GIRLS R BAD!" many do this... it's cute for a while.... untill their souls start to rot because that "pessimism" (kinda, not really but kinda) infects other parts of their lives and they become naysayers. (extreme, i know, but it DOES happen).
I really fucking hope that you can play through NV with 4 intelligence like you could in Fallout 2 (Fallout 1's retard mode ended too quickly, since you couldn't solve any problems beyond the main storyline). Imagine seeing people laugh and berate you for being :downs: in full voice acting!

Oh God, the memories of playing through Fallout with a retarded character.
I need to play this game again.
I feel that Fallout new vegas isn't really going farther than Fallout 3 did. Its not bad, I love fallout, its just that they have the same armor, guns, and models ported from Fallout 3. If only they took an extra step to make it look different, maby improve the graphics or somthing, then it would be awesome. So far, until I see some gameplay, im not sure. Im probably going to buy it anyway...
I'll buy it because of the epic side quests.

Has probably never played X-Com.
I liked how even the world of Fallout 3 had almost nothing in common with the world of the first two games and Tactics. Pretty much the only thing that linked F3 to the first three games(F1,F2,Tactics) was the name.
Fallout 3 was more of a sequel to Fallout:POS, I mean just look at this "lets play" thread on NMA http://www.nma-fallout.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=54087.

yeah, because the remnants of the enclave was soooo not in there, or any of the BoS. or an Undercity or super mutants not to mention no vaults at all. guys, stop sounding stupid. the series has changed, living in the past is sad. what's next?
added the Fallout 3 DLC to the OP and a bunch of canceled games.
Some more New Vegas Screenshots have popped up.

Those mutants are placeholders.
No shit, look at the screenshot posted above you. They look like the super mutants from original Fallout.

This week we unveiled the Fallout®: New Vegas™ collector's edition (CE) for Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, and Games for Windows. The limited collector's edition is now available for pre-order in North America. The Collector's Edition will be available for pre-order in Europe soon.
In addition to including the highly anticipated game, this premium version of Fallout: New Vegas also includes the game-inspired items below:
♠ "Lucky 7" poker chips. Each of the seven poker chips was designed to represent chips from the major casinos found on the New Vegas strip and throughout the Mojave Wasteland.
♠ A fully customized Fallout: New Vegas deck of cards. Each card in the pack has been uniquely illustrated to depict characters and factions found within the game. Use the cards to play poker, blackjack or Caravan, an original card game that was created by Obsidian especially for New Vegas!
♠ A recreation of the game's highly coveted "Lucky 38" platinum chip.
♠ A hardcover graphic novel "All Roads", that tells the story of some of the characters and events that lead up to Fallout: New Vegas. "All Roads" was written by Chris Avellone, the game's creative director, and created in conjunction with Dark Horse Comics.
♠ 'The Making of Fallout: New Vegas' DVD. This documentary DVD will contain exclusive video content, including interviews with the developers in which they take you from concept to creation and discuss topics such as story, setting, legacy of the Fallout franchise and more.

I need that Collectors Edition!

Fallout 3 = 'Eyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy, the game was okay. I disliked it how Beth had to shove aliens in (they were easter eggs in the previous ones) and make it so that you can convince the president to self-destruct in like 3 sentences. They also butchered the canon.
Hoe exactly did they butcher the canon? The only canon change i can think of is how the geck operated. Anyway I'm really excited for new vegas, right now I'm playing through fallout 2 (got it from gog.com). Also I'm waiting to get a better computer because it doesn't run on my computer I'm using right now, it runs on my old one but it lags like hell.
Replaying Fallout 2, it used to be my least favorite in the series, but it's kind of starting to grow on me. (The kick ass and chew bubblegum is getting a little old, though)
Had to start over because there was no way I was escaping from the third floor of [sp]the Bishop's place after seducing Angela[/sp]
I was hoping to use the rope to rappel over the side of the building, but no dice.
In my opinion, New Vegas might be decent, but will probably end up sucking ass like FO3 did.
Only entertained me through the first playthrough, and even then i got bored quickly.

How exactly did bethesda not have the same sense of universe as the original developers?
Have you played Fallout 3?

Part of Obsidian's staff developing New Vegas right now used to work on Van Buren and the first Fallout game. They won't suck like Bethsoft.
