I'm still having problems with Fallout 2. I'm starting to think it's the 64 bit. All pre-rendered cut scenes have fucked up colors and I'm unable to reach the first ant in the Temple because it crashes (I can't even CAD out of it).
It seems like 64 bit is always the first one to have problems with everything... Is it really worth it?

Aha! This is due to modern apps 'stealing' FO2's colours. There is a program you can launch FO2 through to fix it. Let me just find it...

Here we go. Apparently a lot of directdraw games from the '90s use some kind of 'colour palette' which is fundamentally borked on new OSes like W7 and Vista.

Yup.
Apparently this might work too:
1. Right click your desktop and click personalize
2. Click desktop background
3. In the "Picture location"* dropdown, select Solid Colors and select whatever colour you would like to keep as your background.
4. Close every window opened
5. Right click your desktop and then keep "screen resolution" opened
6. Launched your game
For some reason leaving that screen resolution dialog box open fixes the problem for some people. I have no idea how, but there you go. You also might get lucky by just alt-tabbing out of, then back into the game.

Having the ability to have upwards of 4 gigs of ram in some gamers eyes is a very worthwhile exchange if there is the occasional software hiccup.
Also, that's not a 64 bit problem, it happened to me.

Just use NMAs "high-def" mod. this should fix color errors and allows 800 by 600 resolution or higher.

Oh you have got to be fucking kidding me, I had that mod installed ages ago, and didn't bother to reinstall it this time. Fffffff.

Do you have a link, all I find is some Patched EXE thing, I've tried that and it doesn't work. :(
http://www.nma-fallout.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=42386 That's what I keep finding and I've tried. :(
Okay I fixed my crashing. I installed an unofficial patch.
Here's the HD patch: http://www.nma-fallout.com/forum/dload.php?action=file&file_id=1273
And here's a fan-made patch that fixes a shitstorm of bugs... ESSENTIAL!:http://www.nma-fallout.com/forum/dload.php?action=file&file_id=1075
for both, make sure the game is already up to date!

[editline]03:45AM[/editline]
Seems the fallout 1 stuff doesn't work for me, maybe 2 will at least work.
[editline]03:47AM[/editline]
NVM! Works. YOU ROCK! Gonna set up FO2 now also.
Seems it wanted to use 8 bit, so I changed to 16, works perfect. :D

Anyone know how to run fallout 1 and 2 on vista without going through hell just to get the thing to start up without the colors getting raped?
The highres patch will fix that.

Thanks.
So I brought fallout 2 a few days ago on steam and I'm enjoying the game, but I have to ask. Is there any way to make walls bloody transparent? The tiny bubble is almost no help at all and my character can't see objects a few steps away because of a wall next to them. Not only does it not make any bloody sense it's also incredibly annoying, if I want to track an enemy in front of me I often have to rapidly turn on and off attack mode or just leave it on the entire time.
i got the real time settlers mod on fallout 3 and it's really annoying
it eats up all the time i could be using to be doing the main quest
You're not missing much, the main quest was short and dumb.
New problem with Animated Prostitution. The people just don't take their clothes off. They do the animations, they just don't take off their clothes.
Well uh I think you're asking the wrong place
100 extra days? To do what?
In Fallout 1 there's a time limit until [sp]the vault runs out of water[/sp] and another one after that where the [sp]supermutants trace the location of the vault[/sp]
Well, i got the water chip, blown up the vats. Now i just need to kill the master.
