I want to learn more about the Vault-Tech and the Pre-War, I'm one of those people who really enjoys a back story in games.
This.
Sup guys, I just got FO 1 and 2 (and tactics, but fuck that). I'm playing FO 1 first and I'm at Necropolis. The time constraint is a little annoying, and the lack of an autosave really pisses me off sometimes, but I really like this game. I don't see why Fallout 3 was hated so much, I like it about as much as Fallout 1.
Fallout 3 was hated? I know it was a departure from the traditional way of playing, but I thought it was pretty well-received, critically and commercially. The again, these are gamers we're talkin' about. The slightest thing can set off a firestorm.
RTS is an absolute pain in the arse, The Brahmin Whip doesn't work :saddowns:
Are you playing New Wave? As far as I know, when The Settler was discarded and Real-Time Settler came to be, the 'Brahmin Whip' was discarded in favor of the Brahmin pen idea. Then again, I haven't progressed very far in Real-Time Settler: New Wave, so maybe it did add the whip back. But why drop a perfectly good idea that keeps Brahmin from slowly walking away in exchange for an idea that didn't work the first time? No one likes Gamebryo. its a piece of shit.
I want to learn more about the Vault-Tech and the Pre-War, I'm one of those people who really enjoys a back story in games.

Vault-Tec Industries is the corporation that was contracted by the United States government before the Great War to design and produce the Vault system, an endeavor that was officially code-named Project Safehouse. Its corporate headquarters was located in downtown Washington, DC. The first demonstration Vault in the project was constructed beneath metropolitan Los Angeles, and soon many others were built all around the country. The Vaults are all very similar in their basic functions, but were sometimes constructed according to different designs, as the Vaults of the West Coast differ from those constructed in the vicinity of Washington, DC. Project Safehouse and the Societal Preservation Program The Vaults, however, were never actually intended to save the citizens of the United States from the ravages of a nuclear war or a viral pandemic. With a population of almost 400 million by 2077, the U.S. would have needed over 400,000 Vaults to protect every man, woman and child, and Vault-Tec was commissioned by the American government to build only 122 such Vaults. The true reason for the construction of the Vaults was to allow the government to secretly study pre-selected segments of the American population to observe how they would react to the stresses of isolation and how successfully they would re-colonize the devastated Earth after the Vault opened. It was the Enclave, a secret shadow organization of federal officials and corporate executives within the federal government that used the Vault-Tec company to set up this sinister experiment. Ultimately, the Vaults were created not to save American citizens, but to carry out often immoral experiments on live human subjects. The purposes and experiments carried out in each Vault varied, including the development of super soldiers (Vault 92), the creation of an entire population of human clones (Vault 108), the use of the FEV Virus on an unwitting test population (Vault 87),the frequent use of psychoactive drugs (Vault 106), the extended use of a virtual reality simulator on a population (Vault 112), and so on. In Fallout 3, Vault 101 was subject to a "Never To Be Opened" policy so the inhabitants were not allowed to leave and were intended to be made subject to the dictatorial whims of an all-powerful Vault Overseer. Other divisions The creation of the large emergency shelters were not its only products, as Vault-Tec released several other handbooks (such as "Coping with Mr. Virus" or "How to Cook a Rat") that concerned survival during and after other global disasters, with the Vault Dweller's Survival Guide being only one of many. Future-Tec, a division of Vault-Tec, developed the G.E.C.K., the Garden of Eden Creation Kit, for use by the Vault dwellers after they emerged from their Vault into a post-apocalyptic wasteland so that they could rebuild human civilization. editHistory The following is based on Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel and has not been confirmed by canon sources. Like many major military contractors before the Great War, as Vault-Tec grew in profitability and responsibility, it began to develop highly experimental, advanced and secret technologies. In time, Vault-Tec was so thoroughly integrated with top-secret military research done by the Pentagon that it had practically become a department of the U.S. government. However, the company still remained in private hands. Yet, because of its strong connection to the American government the principal personnel of Vault-Tec - its executives, top scientists and engineers, and so on - had to be aware of the true purpose of the Vaults and Project Safehouse, and they had access to the technology used throughout the program since they were the developers of the experimental protocols to be used on each Vault's population. Regardless of the American government's directives, Vault-Tec's high-ranking personnel had no intention of submitting to a lottery and living underground with a bunch of human cattle in the Vault facilities that they had constructed which were intentionally defective. Thus, Vault-Tec created their own private emergency shelter facility for their top employees and their families that was removed from the larger Vault network - and kept its existence secret from the U.S. government. This facility is now known as the Secret Vault. Vault-Tec did not stop there. This secret, private installation was used to research new, more advanced technologies that would benefit mankind in the midst of post-nuclear environment. This initiative included some extensive research with the "forced evolution virus" (FEV) the results of which, unlike the government-controlled research on the virus' uses at Vault 87, was also kept secret from the government. It is known that the FEV stored in the Secret Vault was highly modified to achieve its original goals and avoid sterility among those subjects infected and mutated by it, however, this modification proved unsuccessful. Other Vault-Tec projects that were intended for the corporation's own use included the development of their own robotic systems, a special biological weapons program (the results of which were probably the creation of a unique race of Radroaches and a variation of the Deathclaw), advanced biomedical research on the effects of rapid cell regeneration, and even an attempt to create a model of Power Armor to be used by Vault-Tec personnel. Inconsistencies The company is sometimes referred to as Vault-Tek, or even Vaultex. According to Fallout Bible 0, Vault-Tec is the correct spelling. Strangely, the vice president of Vault-Tec was abducted by aliens as found in an Alien Captive log in Mothership Zeta. Known products The Vaults Equipment and supplies for the Vaults The G.E.C.K. Vault-Tec Vending Machine The Vault-Tec Assisted Targeting System or V.A.T.S

The No Mutants Allowed bunch hate Fallout 3, because it's doesn't use technology that nobody seems to like. Except the NMA bunch.
You're also forgetting that Bethesda tried to tack together a story from elements of the previous plots and failed so badly they had to retcon the ending with DLC. For me, the biggest problem is how shallow the settlements are compared to the old games. No one has anything worthwhile to say (including the ones with dialogue trees) and there isn't enough to do around any of the towns. There's a lot of wasted opportunity everywhere: many of the notes you soak up about someone or other's sordid past go nowhere and neither do the rivalries of characters like Lucas Simms and Colin Moriarty. And Gamebryo sucks.
The Fallout Wiki is useful as fuck. The retcon was for gameplay purposes, not plot.
For me, the biggest problem is how shallow the settlements are compared to the old games. There was a lot that didn't go anywhere that should have.
I have FO3 + all the DLC and I was wondering if FWE + RTS would be compatible and good for a new player.
Any help?
Any help?
Could ya link to whatever RTS is? Too lazy.
No one likes Gamebryo. its a piece of shit.
I still like the engine, and think the problems it's plagued with can be fixed imo instead of changing to a completely different engine.
Real Time Settler: http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=7070
The two mods look like they would be compatible, but I'm not sure which one you would want to put first in the load order.
To anyone having problems running FO3 on windows 7 or vista! In compatibility mode, turn off desktop composition Seriously, this shit works [editline]11:20AM[/editline]
How big was the rock you've been living under
While I know what I've said has been stated a million times, and I also take into consideration that it's not just a modified fallout 3, I was talking about some of the new gameplay elements as opposed to the whole game itself!
Hey guys I need a little help with FO2. I am at NCR, did the vault 15 quest. Now I read, that if I want to get Vault 13 on the map, I have to look at saltbeef's map, and he is at the ranch. Now, I can't get in, because of the force field. What to do? I've looked at the fallout wiki's walkthrough and it says that I have to get recomendation from lynette or dunmont. That is it. Help me!

That was amazing.

I can't wait for New Vegas. Seriously, I've played the shit out of FO3. A shame that I never really played the first prequels, I tried once but I just couldn't get into it.
Okay, I got to talk with saltbeef and the doc will sell the map for 10,000. I do not have that much, I can't sell weapons for money anywhere! I also can't pickpocket it from him either. Any other way?
I tried playing Fallout 1 and 2 the other day, but was quickly bored by the old school mechanics, It was just dull. I still prefer Fallout 3.
Thanks for letting us know. Edit: Failout 3 fans rated me dumb.
The two mods look like they would be compatible, but I'm not sure which one you would want to put first in the load order.
Yeah but that's not all I'm asking. Would they be good for someone just starting? My Fallout experience in the past was pretty bland. I'd like to spice things up a bit.
Thanks for letting us know.
A forum is a place where people discuss things. => He has every right to say whatever the hell he wants as long it's related to the topic and there is no need to be a dick about it. Oh boy I need help. I went to new reno to sell shit, and take some quests. I figured I would wanna work for the bishops but how? The guards won't let me up, and the bouncers say that They could use me. Only way for me to get up is to have sexy time with the bishop girls.
Thanks for letting us know.
This is a place were people discuss the Fallout series. Just because he said something you may not agree with is no reason for you to get pissy and try to dismiss his opinion on a matter we are all discussing here.
How did he dismiss his opinion? He just said "thanks for letting us know". You're overreacting to sarcasm.
This is fucking ridicilious, I am stuck, because I do not have 10k. And why? Because the fucking shop owners never have more than 300$! What the fuck. [editline]02:24PM[/editline] Okay, I am going to get flamed for this, but I had enough, and got a savegame editor to add that money. Sadly it won't open the save files. I got 2 editors, none of them works. I have the restoration and HD pack installed, that is causing the problems or something else?

I never spent money, stimpacks, or ammo in Fallout 1&2. I just kept hoarding them. Before long I had around 100k caps, 30 stimpacks, and a couple thousand ammo.
