You don't really need a guide for JA2. Just use your brain and make sure you are always in a safe spot when the round ends. Don't stand in the open spending all your action points on firing. You are almost always outnumbered and enemies will come when they hear gunfire. Killing silently and attacking at night are also good strategies, especially if you have night vision goggles on your crew. Free cities and make their mines work for you to earn serious money, train militia in the cities to keep the enemies out. Also, save often.
i bought this from gog a while back and always got slaughtered, same with xcom i guess im out of practice at turn based games any guides for JA2?
Can't help with JA2, but X-Com is easy. Use scout pairs, a guy with high TP to move, and another person to always cover him. You can also use HWPs for scouting, but killing with them is wasting precious XP. Nothing, however, can prepare you for your first nighttime terror mission with snakemen.
I went through a couple of sectors last night with 1.13. Really like the additions of the patch, it feels like good old JA2 with some much needed enhancements. Ira did get plugged almost straight away, which may have helped.
I suck at this game. when I tell my guys to walk, they moonwalk. i tell them to look sideways, they strafe. what the fuck am I doing wrong?
Your alt key is stuck, presumably from alt-tabbing. Press it a few times to see if it works after that.
I didn't even know you could strafe. I didn't disable the Drassen counterattack. 40+ enemy soldiers attacked. Needless to say, my 4 mercs died like dogs that day. There was simply overwhelming opposition. Shut that off and will see how it goes.

Also, train militia in the cities as soon as you liberated them, that helps fighting off counterattacks.
By the way, did someone else play JA2: Unfinished business?
By the way, did someone else play JA2: Unfinished business?
Yeah. It's JA2, but more linear, with some extra guns and mercs. 1.13 is incompatible with it, and going back to vanilla is nigh impossible for me. Additionally, 1.13 adds the guns anyway, so there's no reason to downgrade.
thanks a lot fp, now i'm addicted to JA2
So, I feel like I'm missing something, I can't figure out how to go prone, crouch, or do anything but move and shoot, can't even figure out how to burst fire. [editline]01:50AM[/editline] And I'm walking backwards everywhere lol. [editline]01:56AM[/editline] Anyone else having problems walking backwards hit alt, holding alt backs your merc walk backwards and I guess mine was stuck when I launched the game.
There's shortcut keys for all those actions, and there are also buttons in the hud for all actions. Hover your mouse over those buttons to see the shortcut key. (I think, been a few years)

I played it too but i didn't find it that special. 1.13 is way better.
I played this game a long while back, when it was on sale on Steam. I managed to find an old screenshot I took
Apparently, there's a way to hack Wildfire and play it with 1.13 as well, but I have no idea how to do this.

1.13 rules. I'd just play with Reaper, Shadow and Scully and wreak havoc on absolutely everything with arsenal mods. JA2 remake better have lua support, or use an xml editing system like 1.13 does for easy modding, or I'm not going to be a happy camper.
I will say 1.13 makes the game slower for me. I need to consider my options before rolling in hot on a new map sector. I'm starting to get rifles and half-decent shit from the enemy now.

Stock JA2 is kind of OK, I think, but it just starts off too weird once you start playing 1.13 because there's so many new added gameplay elements that just make the game much more strategy oriented. Some classes have new purposes and with the seemingly infinite selection of weapons from Bobby Ray's, you can do so many outcomes from making your mercs just regular PMC-types with hand-me-downs or straight-up give them high powered, military grade weapons. I remember I bought an EOD suit for Magic just for the hell of it and all he could carry was an M9 I had looted from a previous battle, and I had a use for the suit after securing the northwestern SAM checkpoint. I used him to disarm mines with the EOD and he got attacked by an enemy patrol and took about 20 rounds of assault rifle and shotgun fire and took out the two of the opfors before passing out. My other mercs finished the battle and Magic got back up without a single scratch on him, rested, and went back to disarming mines. 1.13 rules. Hell, I think 1.13 comes with the Wildfire maps with it any more.
The EOD suit is awesome, yes. Barry took a shotgun blast at point blanc. Yeah, passed out from the loss of stamina, but survived it.
I want to kill myself. I can't find the damn chopper pilot and the locals don't give me any damn hints. I've almost searched every area around the city he's "around" and can't even tell what fucking areas are "swamps".
I found him two tiles East of the Drassen airport. My mercs noticed someone in the sector. I can't remember if this is a static location or if it changes randomly with each game.
It changes randomly.
