I honestly will not spend my money on this game. It's just a revised version of FO3, but in a different setting. I'm not saying FO3 sucks or FO3:NV, but I'd rather wait until the price drops a ton than buying a not too different version of FO3.
They spent 2 years mostly on content rather than mechanics and the game shows that.
It's FULL of little scenes and stories, sometimes not even told by a quest but rather by how certain things are arranged.
I'm gonna need at least 100 hours to fully explore that.

Also the voice acting is brilliant this time. At least for most NPCs and certainly for the importatn ones.
Yeah I noticed that they improved the voice acting. The "derp" face expressions are still there, but yeah.
The voice acting is perfectly fine, the game just lacked the 'movements' needed to express the words. I wish they'd adopt some sort of Mass Effect-esque dialog system.
Most of you facepunch posters act seriously gay when it comes to new games coming out. I've never seen a thread about a non-valve game with good feedback. Get your tampons for christ's sake
Gay; not a derogitory term. Cut it out.
the game just lacked the 'movements' needed to express the words.
Yes the facial animations are poor which is why even Liam Neeson comes across as a lifeless piece of cardboard who freezes time and paralyzes his entire body save for his head and neck every time you speak to him.
Why don't games have demos anymore? All I think when a game doesn't have a demo is "What are they trying to hide?" If they can't take the time to turn 15 minutes of their game into a demo, what does that say about the game as a whole?
I love Valve and Half-Life. But no. Ep 2 is exactly the same as Half-Life 2 and L4D2 is such a shameless copy and paste of the original with melée weapons.
Oh no it doesn't have cloth physics and softbodies and dynamic water it must be the same......
I doubt you could express an RPG like that with a fifteen-minute demo. It works better with FPS.
They don't have demos because they know we just download them anyways.

No you're right it just has shitty low-poly models from 2004 and terrible 512x512 textures instead and no ambient occlusion.
No you're right it just has shitty low-poly models from 2004 and terrible 512x512 textures instead and no ambient occlusion.
It's only 'low poly' because Valve don't like to shaft people with lower end PCs, even though I think they should start doing it.
Actually the only thing good I think the Source engine has going for it is the facial animations. I'd say the physics but everyone else has pretty much caught up now.
Here's hoping they never do Ep3 and just make Half-Life 3 on a totally new game-engine.

I'm sorry but Unreal 3 runs fine on a £200 PC and the character models don't have giant bricks for hands with all the fingers glued together.
New games should not be created with 5 year old systems in mind. That's like making a game for the 360 but hoping that you can put it on Xbox too.

Yeah well Valve doesn't understand that people can just run it on low on their shit PC, so they decide that if 1 person can't run maxed out on their shit computer, no-one deserves to so it ends up looking shit.
Source has some of the best lighting out there IMO, since it actually has fucking light bounces. Wait, why is this an engine debate?
The engine is outdated. Compared to todays standards. No one can disagree with that.

Unreal Engine 3 has far better radiosity thanks to Lightmass, plus UE3's lightmaps don't look utter shit, they even have parallax. Hell, loads of 2011 titles will have real time radiosity.
"Oh jee the animations look crap and the graphics look crap from the 2 seconds of video I watched LOLOL it sucks and anyone who says it's good are biased/bullshit/cocksuckers/payed for their opinion/wrong."
Or you could be on the other end of the spectrum:
"OMG This game is the best game ever because even if it's crap I can't accept the fact that I wasted $60 on this bag of shit because I hyped it too much."
I haven't played the game yet, so I'm not sure which end of the spectrum I'll be on, but Jesus Christ, some of these people make me sad that I even play video games.
The graphics are very ropey but I fucking love the game. There is a middle ground, you know.

half-life 2 was made in 2004.
portal 2's lighting system will not be easygoing on low-end computers. alien swarm runs terribly on single core processors as it is solely because of dynamic shadows. -- directx 8 is becoming too old and useless for anyone to bother keeping up with anyhow
feel, style, mechanics,, rpg elements (kinda similar atleast) and bad voice acting. .
have you? haha, seriously. christ.
NV is just FO3 minus the green tint, a new quest and new guns. whoopty do. i don't care if the old devs reunited to make it -- it's still nothing close to the original fallouts and still feels like mediocre garbage. get over yourself.

The source engine is over 6 years old and the latest versions still look up to date thanks to the amount of updates Valve have put into it. Gamebyro has hardly been touched since 2006.

A similar game, but in a different setting? Isn't that the point of a fucking sequel?

The tech is shit and they've recycled a fair few assets, but they've put a tremendous amount of effort into the characters and game mechanics fallout 3 needed, like ironsights. I hate gamebyro as much as the next man, but I can acknowledge what they've done right, and there's a lot of good shit.
For two years of development, the amount of content and depth they packed in here is amazing. You can't deny it's bigger than Fallout 3 in every way. I'd rather have a massive game that's bugged to shit than a well polished game that takes 10 hours to beat.
The bugs will be patched and modded out anyway.
Wait 3 months, buy it for much cheaper.
Or don't, really, it's a decent game, but who cares?
I'm too broke now, or I'd have bought this. It's likely I'll pick it up the same way I did 3, on January 1st in the Christmas Sale for 20$ in 08/09. :3
have you played the fucking game
Stop asking this. Seriously, it's ok to judge something without experiencing it. It is possible to see videos, screenshots and reviews and take an impression of the game from them, without even touching the game. It's how people who don't have a limitless income decide which games to buy. Heck, its how anyone decides which anythings to buy.
Stop asking this. Seriously, it's ok to judge something without experiencing it.
No, judging something without experiencing it is not okay. You're a fucking moron.
I don't read reviews. I read metacritic sometimes and then only the user reviews. I don't base my purchase off that either usualy 10% review, 80% video footage and 10% other.

You don't judge something on how it is based on never experiencing it. By your logic here I could say I never drank milk before and looked at some pictures and videos of people drinking milk and thought to my self, "milk looks nasty" and march around saying milk is the nastiest thing in the world when I never drank it before JUST because I looked at some videos and pictures of it.
No, judging something without experiencing it is not okay. You're a fucking moron.
Yes it is. You do it all the time, every time you decide to buy one game instead of another, unless you're just flipping a coin. Can't you safely assume you wouldn't enjoy Barbie horse adventure without playing it? Can you honestly say you haven't judged the Twilight series without experiencing the books or movies? Surely you've gotten excited about some games before they've come out, isn't that judging without experience?
