Ugh my panties are in a bunch over Nintendo's new console.

Just one important thing: awesome launch games. The N64 had Super Mario 64 as a launch title, and that was a big part of the success. If Super Mario Galaxy was a Wii launch title, that would have helped the older fans buy the console, not to mention a lot of people never played Galaxy because of the Wii's reputation.
