The quality of video games has declined over the past 10 years.

I said indie developers, and that could certainly be extended to some studios like Valve or Blizzard, but games like Assassin's Creed 2 and Far Cry 2 have really been disappointments to me. They looked great and had plenty of content, but there's just nothing innovative about them. It's the same game I play every year, which was very different from the 90's / early 2000's when developers were willing to try anything and everything.
I never said every game back then was good. I never said every game now is bad.
I said that the amount of bad games now have increased and that the amount of good games has decreased.
And unless he says he does, you have no way of knowing whether he does or not.
Except the number of good games, and the quality of those good games today has not fallen as much as you think it does. You use your own subjective view of gaming and act as if you're objectively right. Stop doing that.
I disagree with this notion in general. My first console was the N64, so I'm not as well-learned as some of these vets, but I have been playing some totally legally-acquired not at all pirated ROMS of NES and SNES games and the experience has been eye-opening. I can get roughly the same amount of enjoyment from these old-timers as the younger games, not factoring in the age difference at all. Without my vision blurred by nostalgia, I can personally say that the past has been much more fertile in terms of original, high-quality, and downright fun games.

This is a destructive view-point. For one thing, we are just discussing it, and there's no reason not to. Plus its good to get people's opinions heard, some of us may be game devs ourselves one day, after all. Constructive-criticism is a good thing, as opposed to simply not buying something. Aside from the egotists, devs would rather people tell them what they're doing wrong.
Indeed.

Am I? I'm not meaning to, if I am.
And of course, I can only argue this for myself, as it's entirely a matter of opinion with a word like "quality".
Honestly don't give a shit.
If I don't like it I won't buy it, simple as that.
