If i remember correctly, I shot him to the tin roof in the south-west corner of that part. then when i got there, I carried him the rest of the way until I get to the car.
I do remember that i did that because I knew i didn't come back to that area.

Man, that achievement was the most fun I've ever had in Half Life.
I remember playing through on Xbawx, and thinking "Nah, too hard. I won't bother."
When I got it on PC, I picked up the Gnome and had a blast.

I tried doing that but couldn't find anything that would hold the door open.
I can also be added to the list of people who put the gnome in and didn't close the door, expecting to get the achievement when the rocket launched.

That was one of the hardest achievements I ever got in a game.
I didn't find the gnome one to be too hard, mostly because before Episode 2 was even released I played through Episode 1 without leaving this one cinder block I found in the garage behind. I almost cried when I couldn't bring it onto the train with me.
I lost the gnome during the hunter fight in white forest.
I left him by a vent and when I finished he was gone :raise:

I managed to save ALL of the buildings, including the sawmill. It was hard but felt great.
Punt him over the building, get him on the other side.
This is weird. I did that part of the game just now by just putting him next to the door and picking him up with the gravity gun when the door opened. The door didn't shut early or anything ...

This thread reminds me: Just how far exactly can you actually take D0G's ball with you through Half-Life 2? I brought it through Ravenholm and into the mine area with all the headcrabs, but I can't get it past the drop into the underwater passage way because it explodes in water. :frown:
I once heard that you can take it the whole way to Nova Prospekt. Is this possible and, if so, how?

You can take it all the way to Nova Prospekt, but you lose it once you take the teleporter with Alyx.
