I always use metacritic for a simple, quick idea on how the game is.
metacritic gave Rock Band 3 a higher rating than plants vs zombies
I like IGN over gamespot and gameinformer, but usually their reviews only cement my excitement/enjoyment of games.
all the reviews are biased
don't go off just one review anyway, look at several reviews from different sites, sometimes those little game reviewers on YouTube can be ok as well, and talk to friends who have played it as well as looking at just some simple gameplay
No.
One of their reviewers got fired because he gave Kane and Lynch a low score.
I think that GameSpot is more trustworthy than IGN. IGN scores Mafia II with only 7, GameSpot with 8.5. I think that IGN scores more in console exclusive games. I think that Mafia is really good game and score like 7 is very poor for it!
User reviews on metacritic > all other.
Gonna have to disagree on this one. Critic reviews are usually better, especially if not many users review it. Take Super Meat Boy. Most people gave it a positive score (AKA every single critic) but then some users give it like a zero just because they're bad at it or because "it's just a stupid 2D platformer why would you pay money for it"
I think all review sites are bias based on sponsorships and such.
Just use a loyal friend's judgment or metacritic.
Yeah after a while I couldn't take them seriously any more, Giant Bomb is ok but honestly Metacritic is the best, just ignore user reviews because they are retarded.
Metacritic is great for Critic Reviews but some of the user Reviews are flat-out retarded.
One of the negative reviews for Sims 3 gave it a 0 because he, and I quote, "Could not commit homicide."
Your own opinion > Everyone else's.
This. When it comes to entertainment such as music, film, gaming and such only your own opinion matters. Just because a review says a game is good won't make you enjoy it, but if a review says a game is bad it may ruin your experience because you'll always have the judgement in the back of your head. That's how we work, we take all the information we can get and build an opinion from it, even if we don't know it. So if you go into a game with an already bad opinion, believe me, you're not gonna enjoy it.
Just look at the game, if it looks good, get it. You'll most likely be surprised by how fun the game is, even if you realise how bad it is later on.
When it comes down to game reviews, I trust the good old gaming magazines.
GameSpot definitely isn't as bad as magazines like GameInforner.
Hhhnnnggg, never seen anything that biased towards the things with money.

Hah, didn't even read post above mine.
I remember when I was on Gamespot like all the time. I used to trust their review until the whole Jeff Gertsman incident. Kevin Van Ord (I think thats his name) is the only reviewer I trust in Gamespot. All the good reviewers left.
List of shit they have done:
Give MGS4 every damn award that was good(even GOTY), but when it was nominated for a shit award(most used in-game ads), it didn't get that award. Sure, MGS4 was a good game, but IT DIDN'T DESERVE EVERY FUCKING AWARD.
Give GTA4 a 10 for both PS3 and 360.
Not give Saints Row 2 a higher score.
Overall bias.
Community is shit.
Now, I use kotaku or gametrailers.
Do I trust their reviews, short answer is no.
Long answer is fuck no.
After the Gerstmann incident I also quit entering their site. I still have them in my favourites, but I very rarely check them.
Nowadays I go to Eurogamer to see what games score.

Oooor it could be made to look good and actually be terrible and a waste of money.
Thanks, but I value my wallet. Besides, I like actually opening up to different genres, so professional reviews are very useful.

So because some worker review > than some idiot = worker is better?
Take out the idiots and it's better to use the user reviews than paid worker reviews.
Stopped visiting GameSpot.com shortly after the Jeff Gerstmann incident as well.
Never gone back to the site intentionally.
I think they are Pro a certain console, and they give better reviews on games on that console than on games from others.

I'm just looking up what games are coming out.
If i want opinions I'll stick to Gamocracy.

I've noticed I enjoy games alot more if I don't know anything about them except the general concept. To me, playing a new game is like discovering something, but if I already know everything about the game that ruins it.
I always thought Jeff Gerstmann was unfair in his Kane & Lynch review.
The only good thing about Gamespot is System Wars, and not due to what it is meant to be, but because it's funny to see fanboys cry. That and sometimes they do have a few proper news posted (I guess fanboyish rage helps them with their dedication).
Oh and the contests are great fun too, seeing Sonic fanboys crying is priceless, and most console users on there are still butthurt by Freeman winning a year or so ago.
I like all of the controversy that Keven VanDickbutt is stirring with his reviews. He's been on a roll.
This.
Also, he and the cooler people from gamespot (that quit after finding out why he was fired) founded a game website called giantbomb which is really cool.
They tend to be kinda harsh on big games, but you can always check out their quick looks and draw your own conclusions.
Wait, so Gertsmann is one of those behind Giantbomb?
Since when was opinions trustworthy?
Since when was opinions trustworthy?
Since the holocaust didn't happen.
Didnt cha hear?
It was disproven by soccor moms and the council of head christian priests because teaching about it was making people feel bad for the jews and was too violent for their kids.
Never look at the score.
Listen to the reviewers experince. Use it to form your own opinion into wether or not you should buy the game. Its best to listen to vaired reviews, say for example read a IGN(orant) review were they praise everything so much that money is falling out of their mouth and then read a lesserknown reviewer (you'll see the diffrence).
And never bring into the hype... The last game I did was L4D2. I thought that when they said "AI director controls the weather" I thought that each and every map could switch from sunny to rain to overcast. Boy was I dissapointed.
Don't trust any reviewer, if a game gets bad reviews, rent it if it's on console.
